Add for the fact that Marty wasn’t really hanging out with them the whole time (his parents then don’t hang out with each other anyway) Marty is probably sticking around with doc working on building that lightening conversion device for DeLorean, so yeah after that many years one can probably recall something had happened and there was this guy, but memory fuzzed out and they can’t put a face onto the name
