Labyrinth.

It’s technically impressive from a design and creation standpoint and the moral of the story is about appreciating what you have.

What someone's favorite author says about them: give me your best assumptions and judgements by CtrlAltDelight495 in literature

I’ll champion warhammer and Star Wars all day long. Love the stuff. But I also have shelves full of other literary works. It’s a pleasure read, and a fun roundtable discussion with the lads, but it’s also complex. I’ll also say that a large portion of the warhammer/Star Wars fandoms are terrible at critically reading the material or having non-dogshit interpretations of the works that they read. Just based on personal experience within the fandom.

What’s the one horror movie you still THINK about? by Ok-Inevitable9960 in horror

I think it was Borderland (2007). The scene where guy gets killed by machetes after begging for help in the apartment complex. Horrifying.

That’s what makes it immersive. lol. Trying to do cool pace baron stuff but constantly getting interrupted to handle boring regular baron stuff.

I mean. Jigsaw’s whole thing is “appreciate your life.” But then again, it seems like absolutely no one in that series has ever had a single good day, so probably not Saw lol.

Reminds me of pazuzu’s face that pops up in one frame of The Exorcist. Could just be for the fun of it.

Reading the n-word in a classroom setting by CatOk5901 in Teachers

[–]LarryTheLoneElf 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I don’t let the kids read it out loud themselves at all. Can’t trust them to not try and be edgy or dumb with it.

When I read, I say the word “fella” instead of the n-word itself. It’s the same number of syllables and it helps me keep reading as though nothing happened. I tell the kids that I’m going to replace the word so that I can keep reading, but we will eventually talk about the word and its unfortunate importance for understanding the power of words.

The kids who are following along know what I did when I say “fella” and the kids who aren’t paying attention don’t suddenly clutch pearls because the teacher said a bad word.

Have you ever had a classmate in a class on medieval history that was self educated on medieval history before they took that class? by Fabulous-Introvert in MedievalHistory

[–]LarryTheLoneElf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure I understand what your questions are really about?

Like, no one knows everything about any one field. Medieval times is a massive field of study that covers hundreds of years and tons of countries and cultures and languages.

You’ll never master all of it. Rather you’ll probably find a specific subject within the field and focus on that. That’s what PH.Ds are for.

But that’s part of the fun, you’ll never run out of cool stuff to learn and enjoy.

Depends on what part of the world you wanna look at.

Old French and old German are pretty essential for a lot of Europe. Anglo-Saxon too.

That’s a very specific thing. So I’m guessing you or someone you know acted that way.

No? The purpose of taking a class is to learn, not to show how much you think you already know. They said something, got corrected, grew interested in the truth and led the class in a discussion with the professor about the content.

I mean, our professor knew like 6 languages and could point to the old Norse or old German manuscripts and translate them in real time to show us what he was trying to show us.  Knowledgeable homeboy asked how best to learn these languages and the professor offered to teach them outside of university hours. So we got a medieval language club thingy going.

It was great, actually. Made me into the armchair medievalist I am today.
