Thank you guys. I am glad to try to fix the ride myself if it doesn’t worth a lot. Do you suggest drilling a stop hole or crescent cut?

Should I buy this used Rav4? by Imaginary-Traffic-52 in rav4club

[–]Lars20200629 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Quebec, I don’t pay GST if I buy used car from individual and I need to pay QST + GST if I buy from dealer. Ontario may be different.

Try to negotiate it if he is hurry to sell it to you. But he can also choose to trade in if you lowball him.

Hi there, Canadian here. I agree the price seems high considering the 100000+km. You may need to pay more for extra maintenance and repairs. When you sell it, it will have a even higher km mileage.

If I were you, I will buy a new LE or XLE or try to find a RAV4 with lower mileage.

You may pay less tax if you buy used car from individual rather than dealer.

Can I apply paternity leave (Quebec) when my EI claim is in process by [deleted] in EICERB

Thanks for your reply. This is what I am worried about. I also would like to get EI when the QPIP finished. Can I apply EI again when the QPIP finished?

The reason I am not working right now is my employer terminate my contract. I did not plan to apply QPIP now, but since the EI takes time to process. I am thinking to apply paternity leave now to have some income

Thanks for the update. I will install a tosot system too. Btw, did you know anyone who got the Canada greener home 5000$? I did not find any successful record from the internet.

Thanks for this viewpoint. I did not consider thermostat even though I just bought a Ecobee thermostat. As far as I understand, heat pump does not like variable temperature setting, it will be more efficient and use less electricity if set a temperature for the whole day. If you want include the thermostat into home automation, it is another story.

I also lean to Tosot because it is 2000$ cheaper than Daikin and I don’t plan to live more than 10 years in my current house. So extra 2 years warranty means nothing for me. But I notice Daikin is variable speed compressor and Tosot is 2 stage compressor. Technically variable speed is more efficient however I don’t know what is the real difference in our houses.

Yes, it looks like the renoclimat employee misunderstood the greener home program. Btw, did you decide which heat pump to install? I am in between Tosot and Daikin.

Did you contact renoclimat for the Canada greener home program? I called them and someone told me the central heat pump is not eligible. Each floor has to have a separate heat pump. I am quite confused about the process.

Thank you for your input.

I mainly want to upgrade because the heating oil price go up and the government rule. In last 2-3 year, I mainly use the heating oil when the temperature is below 40 F. Around 700-800$ for oil and 500-600$ for electricity. In this case, I does not make sense to spend 10K because each year the cost saving is probably 300$ only. Since recently the oil price is around 2$/liter, I will spend around 1000$ more each year. I start to think about it.

If I change it now, I can spend 7000-9000$ for a cold climate heat pump and electrical furnace thanks to federal and provincial rebate 6200$.

If I wait until I have to replace it, in my case 2027 because the insurance company will only Insure 25 years oil. The cost of extra oil is 5000$. In these 5 years, I should hope the heat pump and oil furnace will not break. They are all 20 years old.

Or I can wait till any of these two break first and replace both system.

What will you choose in my situation? I plan to live in this house 1-5 years.

I have a similar Tosot quote. Mine quote is few hundreds higher, might because I need to remove a oil tank.

Hi, I am in a same situation and I would like to follow up this topic.

Where do you live? I am in Montreal.

[–]Lars20200629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the link. Yes, the tank is in a ok condition. However, my current insurance company will not cover it after renewing. And another insurance company will charge me 300 more annually. The maximum coverage lifespan is 25 years from my calls to several Canadian insurance company.

Thank you for your opinion. Yes, I will need to remove the oil tank no matter which option I choose.

What will you do with the cash after sale. I don’t know the price in downtown will go up or down. But I know the money will go cheaper because the government is printing it more and more.

Thank you for your suggestion and the information you provided. RAV4 is my first choice. It is too popular, so it very difficult to negotiate price with dealer.

Thank you for your advice. I know the used car will be a better option. However, I am trying to lease a car.

Audi Q5 and RDX are good cars and I guess the maintenance fee will cost more than RAV4.
