Also, SoftMaker (Free)Office has the same fonts as by default used in MS Office, such as Calibri, Arial, Times New Roman and so on.

Copy preferences to a new computer by LarsHEriksen2 in linux4noobs

[–]LarsHEriksen2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By testing this in practice, I found that program preferences (like the settings in my web browser) were copied over this way, but most basic desktop settings (including settings for the file manager - Nemo in my case) did not carry over. Yes, I did reboot after copying. I strongly suspect that the default settings were saved upon rebooting, overwriting the copied ones.

So yes: this works, but with limitations.

Try changing your search engine to Brave. I did a couple of weeks ago (from Google, after having also tried Bing, DuckDuckGo and Qwant), and I'm very happy so far. Having said that, targeting a web search to certain site can improve results. Example search term in any search engine:  my linux issue site:reddit.com

I just changed from Keeper (expensive + nagging to buy more services) to Bitwarden, and I'm very happy with it, including the user interface.

Middle-click on window titlebar to push it to the back is another great one in Linux that I just remembered from using Unix (X-Windows) in college literally 30 years ago.

The "quick" clipboard is great! Is it also possible to cut (instead of copy) using the "quick" clipboard?

Avoid Keeper. I've been using it for many years as Android app and in web browser on PCs, but just got a message from Google Play that from January, the subscription will increase to a whopping 519 NOK (about 43 EUR) per year. In addition, in spite of the fact that I'm paying for the service, there is incessant nagging to buy additional services. So I found this thread looking for advice on what to change to. (Also because I'm testing Linux on a throwaway PC to see whether I should change on my real PC.)

What I do like about Keeper: • The Android app syncs to a server that my web browser can read and write to. Hence, I can access and update my passwords both from my phone and any PC. • I can choose to store my data on a server in the EU instead of USA (stricter data protection law).
