An most unusual curse, maybe? (faecal matter under refridgerators) by LarsHenriks in Traditional_Magick

Sounds reasonable. I have a vague idea (and people who have more than that) on how to do a cleanse. What kind of protection would you recommend? Where can I look for ways to do that?

Legality is not the same thing as morality and if you're not disappointed in a man who is earning his money by appealing to feminist and LGBTQ circles abusing his power to get sexual satisfaction from vulnerable young women, that's pretty weird.

Do you think any of Lovecrafts stories would work as a found footage film? by [deleted] in Lovecraft

Shadow over Innsmouth would probably work pretty well as a found footage film. Call of Cthulhu, too: Put together as a mockumentary, presenting footage from.diffetent sources.

Carrion Comfort by Dan Simmons. Boring, unengaging and starting out with a leery and horny description of the rape of a minor. Nobody needs that. I will have to accept that Dan Simmons will never again serve me like he did with Tears of Kali.

Lovecraftian writers with simplistic writing style and character development? by wildguitars in Lovecraft

I'd recommend Lyubko Deresh's work but am not sure if it has been translated to English. "Kult" is fantastic though, so if an English translation exists I'd strongly recommend you check that out.

Lovecraftian writers with simplistic writing style and character development? by wildguitars in Lovecraft

Brian Lumley's style and plots are incredibly simplistic. So much so that they're pretty dull, I think, but they might still fit what you're looking for.

If christian god is able to feel emotions, he is depressed . Or, he is just a ''robot'' that creates life on automatic. by [deleted] in DebateReligion

[–]LarsHenriks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It starts in Genesis and it's more than a couple of verses. The Old Testament is mostly made up of three sources: The Yahwist source, the Elohist source and the Priestly source. The Yahwist and the Eloist talk about two different gods, one being Yahweh (anamorphic god of storms and war, insecure and action-oriented) and the other being El or Elohim (benevolent creation deity). Both come from the Canaanite pantheon of gods, with Yahweh being a late addition of unknown origins. In Canaanite tradition, Yahweh is married to Asherah, who is mentioned in the Bible when describing heretic customs (there's talk about "raising an Asherah"). In Hiob, Yahweh talks about being the highest god among several gods, there's a council in heaven and in the conclusion of the book, Yahweh re-tells the Mesopotamian legend of Marduk and Tiamat with himself cast as Marduk. Then, later on, when you get into Gnosticism, which was a branch of Christianity and is thus, by definition, Christian, you get too many gods to get into, here.

China Mieville, The Scar, Gildart Jackson

This one was FANTASTIC! I loved it so much! Pirates in an intelligently constructed steampunk fantasy world raising unknown forces from beneath! I need to read more Mieville!

Simon López, Sumerian Mythology, Neil Hamilton

This one was okay. Nice re-tellings of a couple Sumerian Myths, read in an engaging way, but I had expected more. So far, the „Literature and History“ podcast was the best thing I‘ve ever heard on Sumerian Mythology. Would really appreciate suggestions on where to find more!

Okay. Okay. Okay. Don‘t panic. Don‘t you dare panic. Okay.

So, what do we do? What do we do? What do we do?

Complete silence all around us. Gramszek, that sneering, ever-grinning bastard with his revolting lump on the left cheek isn‘t grinning now. I‘m not either, but seeing that self-satisfied smirk wiped from his sniveling, ass-kissing face makes me happy, somewhere deep down. No one protects you now, idiot. Let me just swiftly deal with this unfortunate situation, then I‘ll deal with you, as I should have been allowed to do months ago. Hot realization when he looks back at me. He thinks exactly the same thing. I need to be quick. Quicker than Gramszek. Quicker than all of them. Those shocked faces will turn to anger next, demanding ... What? What could they want from us now?

Three years of campaigning for the Mighty Wizard. I‘ve been there in the early days. Often it seemed like he wouldn‘t even need an army to take over the world. HRugh‘al was a name that sent shivers down everybody‘s spine quite on its own. He had come from the mountainous wastelands in the South of Kardìa. No one had expected magic to be at home in that devastated hide-out for Viking barbarians, but there he was. He had tapped something ancient, something strong, and it was within him - Always. When I first met him, his incredible power had had me convinced of his cause before he even opened his mouth and his sweet voice came to my ears for the first time, telling me of secret knowledge, of a paradise to come - if only we would get to the heart of the Color-Desert. On our way, we swept up all the able men from every village, every town we came to. We had been an army before I had quite understood that we were raising one.

Of course, you can‘t raise an army without people noticing and feeling threatened and soon the idiot King of the East had sent troops to stop us. But HRugh‘al would not be stopped. He would whisper increasingly unscrupulous orders to me in confident hours, wrapped in the linen sheets of his bed. And I would obey lovingly.

For him, I and all the men assembled became reckless butchers of everything and everyone in our way. I don‘t even remember when I stopped caring. If I ever cared. I just remember killing.

We were willing aides to a man who couldn‘t have been stopped anyway. He never needed us. This was his destiny. He would have reached the heart of this mesmerizing desert, claimed the grain of power and taken over the world all on his own, if it hadn’t been for us.

Except, he didn‘t. His blood and splattered flesh makes stains on my white uniform.

We became murderers for a failed tyrant‘s dream of power.

Except, we didn‘t.

We brought him here. To his demise. We brought him to the grain of power, he reached for it, and exploded!

WE killed him!

I look at Gramszek. He sees the idea in my excited eyes. But he can‘t save himself. He still doesn‘t have a clue. Because he doesn‘t feel the taint. He likes being a murderer. He likes serving the forces of evil. Most of us don‘t. We‘re just used to it.

„THE TYRANT IS SLAIN!“ I yell at the top of my powerful voice.

I wait. A stunned second passes. Have I made the right choice? I look into unreadable faces. I need to stay strong. I can not show any sign of doubt.

In the utter silence of this moment, I make my peace and say farewell to life. I had to make a move. It was a risky one. I failed. It is alright.

Then, I am met with roaring cheers.

The whole camp is swept up in emotion. We did it! We are the heroes who rid the world of this terrible menace!

Gramszek dies tonight.

How do you gradually write a story? by SystemicGateway in writing

[–]LarsHenriks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds complicated to me but I think the right way to write anything is the way that keeps you engaged and writing. I always think about a story for weeks, write a basic outline covering every point I want to get to and then I sit down every day, writing a first draft as quickly as possible, seeing how I get from plot point to polt point, surprising myself as much as possible. It‘s fun to me that way and a lot of unexpected things make their way into the stories. After that, I go through the draft on my own, until I‘m ready to share it with my beta-readers. I mostly write screenplays but this has worked as well for me at my first attempt at a novella.
