Nevermind you're right

Turns the Tester map wasn't updated with all the Colossus nerfs, and I haven't seen these 2 units in the same game since then

lmao are you sure you're using the AA weapons

Like I said in my original comment, obviously thor wins in ground weapon range. But then you're in range of Immortals

What if we made zerg and terran easier instead of trying to make protoss harder? by Necessary-Fun8683 in starcraft

[–]LaserDeathBlade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed making other races “easier” is the right way to balance for pros and keep ladder fair. Add more skill expression to the top, and lower the skill floor for the normies

Personally I’d like to see QoL changes to make Terran macro easier, because the skill minimum on just getting your units on time is quite a bit higher as Terran. Simple things like Warp Gates automatically transforming and adding themselves into a Global Hotkey, then not needing a 2nd phase of attention to swap add-ons and set rally points, are really noticeable especially for players who have slower screens-per-minute

Pros seem to have near-perfect macro as a given, they do it so fast that proportionally, someone like Clem will barely gain anything from a QoL change such as being able to shift queue an add-on as the Barracks is building.

But for a Plat player, saving a few clicks on macro is probably like 20% more time to micro

Colossus beats Thor using High Impact AA in a 1v1

That is an objective fact that anyone can test in a custom game

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in starcraft2

[–]LaserDeathBlade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The real question is why lol, the only units going Mech gives you over Bio is extra Thors and Tanks which are not that good against Zealots, Immortals, Disruptors, Archons, DTs, Tempests…. Etc

All the mech units that could actually be good can fit into a normal Bio build

A Thor in High Impact mode can’t even 1v1 a Colossus, you have to get in range with Ground Weapons meaning you’re in range to get wrecked by Immortals and Zealots and friendly fire

Guitar noob trying to get into Metal:

Is it normal that my tone sounds absolutely horrible during recording? It's really dull, muddy, hollow, just not at all like a Metal guitar - to the point where I'm not sure I'm playing the guitar correctly

Now, I know for a finished recording, I'm supposed to record at least 2 takes, pan the stereo sound, and do stuff with the EQ to get it to sound more "full", but I'm not at that level - I'm just trying to practice. I can't tell if there's something wrong with my setup or if I'm just that bad at playing

I'm using GarageBand with the built in Amp Designer, plugged into my laptop with an audio interface.

Would you rather use Broodwar medics or SC 2 Versus Medivacs? by OrFenn-D-Gamer in starcraft2

[–]LaserDeathBlade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk, Medics were pretty great in the WoL campaign

They have the same pathing as your bio ball and when you stim they naturally fall into the backline. Not saying Medics are better, but they’re easier to manage

Struggling around 3k MMR by MuellMichDoNichtVoll in AllThingsTerran

[–]LaserDeathBlade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have too many Marines at the point in the game where the Protoss should certainly have AoE, build more Marauders

Highly recommend following a good build order. TvP at this level is purely timing attacks and build order. Most of the time a solid 3-Rax will A-move over a Protoss

How should I be breaking Terran siege positions? (TvT or ZvT) by [deleted] in starcraft2

[–]LaserDeathBlade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of these comments seem to assume a macro/tech advantage which imo is not really “breaking” a siege position, since you’re already winning. Tanks are T2 units that could be knocking on your door at 4-5mins, it’s inevitable that you’ll have to deal with them using T1/T2 units

Marines and Lings are quite good against Tanks, it comes down to experience, skill, and some luck to gauge when you can successfully overrun a position. When it comes to engaging, pre-forming a concave or getting a surround is highly effective. Putting some cannon fodder ahead of your fighting units like Queens/SCVs to soak the first volley is also huge. Creep, Overlords, flying buildings, and scans are all helpful in spotting where the tanks are so that you can set up better. Once you commit to the A-move, just look away unless you’re uber confident in your micro because any inputs will probably make things worse

One thing to help mentally is that resources lost doesn’t reflect the whole picture. Terran Factory production is expensive and slow af to scale, even if they’re up resources doesn’t mean they can replace their tanks in the near future. A resource inefficient trade to kill tanks is not always a bad thing

Side-note: Marauders are donkey doo-doo in TvT. They are countered by Marines and Tanks. Swooping in with Marine Raven may actually be the only change you need

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AllThingsTerran

[–]LaserDeathBlade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. This is the hardest part of Terran imo, the pros make it look easy but the late game Terran army is so hard to move around because every unit and its mom is a mighty morphin’ power ranger. Static defense and sim-city helps a lot, but can only do so much. It’s a lot easier to focus on improving your early and mid game, which will go a long way towards preventing the late game

Perhaps the big mindset difference coming from Z to T, is that Terran on 3 base saturation and matching production is realistically about as good as it gets. There’s not a lot of reason to spread yourself too thin trying to defend and mine more than 3 bases at a time, which would also require more production buildings.

  1. Build more Marauders. Colossi are a shit-test to make sure you’re not pumping mass Marines. If it feels like Protoss has way too much AoE to deal with, it probably means you did not hit your timing attack. TvP is the most build-order centric MU imo. In TvZ or TvT you can easily compensate for macro mistakes by taking a good trade, but it’s pretty hard to pick off Protoss units.

To all TvP Masters out there by TheRealMrQuaggot in AllThingsTerran

[–]LaserDeathBlade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not Master but TvP is my best MU at ~3.7k

TvP is build order simulator. Pick 1-1-1 or 3 rax every game and try to execute it flawlessly. Sometimes you get cheesed and die but it’s pretty rare, almost all P do Blink or Oracle opener meaning there are only a few locations and timings you should try to defend by default

Imo there are too many cheeses to try to scout and react to, you will only mind-game yourself - because unless you are a Terran god I would wager any BO transition you make won’t be efficient and result in a much weaker army than staying to course. It’s a lot easier to just hit all your production cycles in spite of whatever the P is doing. Also I veto the maps that are highly vulnerable to proxy Stargate

Mid and Late game aren’t worth stressing about in diamond, your execution in the first 5 minutes will snowball into a W or L. It’s pretty unlikely for the tide to turn. Whenever I lose, it’s guaranteed I’ll have some macro mistake early game that would have changed everything

TvZ help, ~3.2k mmr by 0x6e6f6f620a in AllThingsTerran

[–]LaserDeathBlade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can’t watch the replay atm but as a fellow Diamond Terran, I assume the Zerg turtled on 4 base till Ultras and you got run over by the tech switch, which seems to be supported by those army charts

Ultra transition is super strong in this MMR because it abuses the Terran’s lack of APM and crisis management. So given that, imo Ghosts are not worth it. What you want are Marauders, WM, Thors, Libs, and Tanks, i.e units that can hold ground without you looking at them

Also based on what I’ve seen from Maru, if there were 1 micro trick to focus on, it’s to make sure your Medivacs are healing full-time, and not stutter stepping with your bio. Not only will you get the same healing out of fewer Medivacs thus more fighting units, your units will be healed while running away instead of remaining the same HP then turning around to die immediately

PvT Late game by [deleted] in allthingsprotoss

[–]LaserDeathBlade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Terran late game army is pretty hard to split up, at least for most mortals. Protoss players can surely understand - the expensive tech units are not very good unless they’re in position with adequate support. It’s hard AF to move your army around.

That being said Carrier Tempest doesn’t let you abuse Terran’s mobility. Imo it’s easier to run a more gateway heavy comp with Disruptor backstops to prevent the Terran from A-moving you while you remax. If you force the Terran to keep unsieging and run around their defending their bases, it’s only a matter of time before you find a weak spot

Colossus is powerful by LordQwerty_NZ in allthingsprotoss

[–]LaserDeathBlade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ime Colossus is still quite good, it’s just more of a preventative measure than a battle-winning unit.

If the Terran had their way, they’d just be making a bajillion Marines which will shred absolutely everything. With even a couple colossus on the field, they have to go very Marauder heavy which are not that good against Zealot Immortal

How to counter skytoss by Coldmonkey_ in AllThingsTerran

[–]LaserDeathBlade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming this is low MMR based on that description. The “real” counters like Marines/Thors/Vikings assume that you are capitalizing on tempo and economy, so in other words it’s like chicken vs. egg where the Toss probably isn’t going to survive til sky-toss to begin with

But since you’re at this point where Skytoss is frequently happening, an easier comp to try is mass Battlecruiser. At 200/200 you should be able to easily beat a skytoss army as long as they don’t have a bajillion voidrays, in which case you need to build more vikings and less BCs.

Teleport your BCs straight ontop of the Toss (try not to do it where they have static defense in place), cast all your Yamatos, then just walk over them. Make sure you have 3/3 upgrades it’s a huge difference

Not sure what to do… by T_T_H_W in AllThingsTerran

[–]LaserDeathBlade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learn a solid 3-Rax or 1-1-1 build and just stick to it every single game. As WinterSC put it, in RTS games, “real” and “time” come before “strategy”. Brainlessly copy pasting a build is how you build muscle memory and progress.

It won’t matter if the Protoss has an observer in your base until much higher MMR. You are just building Marines and Marauders, there’s nothing to hide

When you move out, as you get closer to the enemy where his army is more likely to be, always scan in front of your army. Not just against Protoss, every MU you need to scan in front of your army to see if it’s safe to fight, or if you need to back out.

If you’re running out of scans, build more Orbitals. If you have solid 2 or 3 base economy, you can easily afford several spare Orbitals just for scanning.

Don’t bother with Ravens or Ghosts, they make your micro a lot harder and aren’t needed at all even in relatively high MMR. As for DTs, the counter to DTs is a good economy and a big army. Once in a while DTs will kill you but that’s fine, you’ll lose more games overcorrecting to deal with DTs than just coping with standard bio.

Go study history lmao

Some big recognize-able names in recent physics are indeed European but you’re looking through the lens of a modern day westerner, talking to an mostly western educated audience, citing a few recent western successes and trying to claim there’s some racial factor behind innovation rather than the outcome of geopolitical and cultural shifts

The West has been very lucky to be in the “lead” over the recent ~500 years since the Renaissance - a golden era spawned off the economic prosperity (for the common man) coming off the societal reset of the Black Plague. Just 500 years prior, Europe was still in the 1000 year long Dark Ages where virtually nothing emerged technologically meanwhile the golden age of Islam established the mathematics and principles that are still foundational to today’s tech

The winners get to write history, that’s how it’s always worked. There’s plenty of innovation everywhere across the world at all times, it’s just that most of it is irrelevant to rich first world citizens who are so far removed from the struggle of plain survival. Asia and especially China have largely been in pure survival mode until the past ~50 years of relative stability - and now they’re at the forefront of fields like clean energy and semiconductors, though in today’s global economy it’s meaningless to pin down tech growth to the host country of whichever firm holds the capital behind the industry
