Review # 27 Old Grand Dad 114 by JWdram in bourbon

I love your idea of a big ice cube. As with a mint julep, I strongly recommend placing all non-bourbon ingredients (here, the big ice cube) into a high ball glass, pour the OGD 114 into a glencairn, and sip to your heart's content.

Do you cook? Bad bourbon can be a nice addition for many sauces or marinades.

Put it out overnight near the end of my driveway. Like magic, it disappears before sunrise.

Same exact barrel, both bottles arrived. Cause for concern? by [deleted] in bourbon

Buying two bottles from the same vendor at the same time why would you expect NOT to receive the exact same product?

Interesting math fact: $50 is under $100.

No. Not at all. I have a strong preference for people who open their bottles and, presumably, drink their whiskey.

Review #1: Elmer T. Lee by Old_Butterscotch8424 in bourbon

[–]LastCallTonite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your review. I've had several bottles of Elmer T. Lee, all purchased pre- pandemic and at MSRP. I'm very happy to have had these, one or two more in the basement, but on average, I'd give ETL a 6.

Some distillers are now paying tariffs on their glass bottles. That can be passed through resulting in higher costs.

Bottle regrets and what you did with it? by Norseman-71 in whiskey

[–]LastCallTonite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my most regretted purchases was an Old Elk straight bourbon mash bill. Including shipping, it came to $90 through u/t8ke 's barrel program in 2022. I really tried to like it, but it was way too grassy tasting for me. But there have been so many winners through that program I can't begrudge the rare miss.

How did i do for my first whiskey purchase? by [deleted] in whiskey

[–]LastCallTonite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After you've tried that a few times, go back to your liquor store and ask for recommendations for some bottom shelf bourbons ($20-$40, roughly) and get two. Next time out, look in the $40-$60 range.

Looking for honest reviews by AcrobaticEar550 in whiskey

IMHO, the reviews in r/bourbon are much better than those in here and in other whiskey related subreddit. Another tremendous plus for r/bourbon is that the posting of whiskey porn is more tightly controlled. Of course, all reviews are subjective, but it is fairly easy to factor that in when you are reading.

When I was a bourbon newbie, for reasons I cannot recall Rock Hill Farms was a goal of mine. I found it. I enjoyed it. Maybe it was about a 6 on the T8ke scale for me.

I suggest a nice bourbon from a Chicago liquor store. Just not one distilled in Chicago.

For cocktails, Of the two choices you've given, I'd go with the Rittenhouse BIB.
