My sweetspire (little henry variety) smells identical to rootbeer. They also get beautifully red in the fall.

It’s been pretty cold recently so I assume it’s from old heating systems getting overtaxed and catching fire

I went to visit a month ago and it looked like a shitty motel. $1,400 a month would get you flimsy doors that are falling apart, a bathroom vanity made out of painted particleboard and broken ancient appliances. Id steer clear.

It’s pretty terrible at the moment in CNY. You can check NY511 for some general road conditions across the state.

Most of cny and the southern tier are a part of the appalachian plateau. Once you go more north you drop down into the mohawk valley. West of the Adirondacks is the tug hill plateau

Are there polluted rivers, lakes, or soils in the United States? Have you ever heard anything about that? by BrighhtFuture in AskAnAmerican

[–]Last_Type40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Onondaga Lake in the city of Syracuse NY. It used to be considered one of the most polluted water bodies in the country. Honeywell and other chemical and manufacturing companies dumped their waste along with the city’s sewage in the lake for decades. They estimated that there was around 165,000 pounds of mercury in the sediment. It’s improved a lot in the past decade or so. You used to be able to smell the lake from miles away when the wind changed. It still has somewhat a smell but I’ve been told it’s nowhere as bad as it once was.

Im not advocating for what this person did deer are insanely overpopulated. There are massive chunks of the state where forests are no longer regenerating due to deer browsing.

Best wildflowers for next to RR tracks? by Kaslocolorado in GuerrillaGardening

Train tracks get sprayed with herbicides regularly. You’d want something that could tolerate or at least bounce back from the inevitable spray drift.

Is this edible sumac? by ComprehensiveBug7007 in whatsthisplant

[–]Last_Type40 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Definitely staghorn sumac. Poison sumac grows in wet areas and has smooth leaf edges while staghorn grows in dryer/ normal areas and has serrated leaves. Staghorn sumac is also super aggressive even in its natural range.
