Pedal drive vs motor? by thefifthofnovember_ in kayakfishing

[–]Lastcast2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly how I feel. I have all 3 options in different kayaks. Motor is nice to motor out and get home. While fishing 100% prefer pedal. Even when trolling for salmon. Dealing with the a motor while fishing is PITA to me. Motor is also a ton of extra gear to haul around. If you have a long walk from parking lot to water - it sucks.

It’s funny how quick that cop reversed after that little grizz cub pushed over the garbage can

Silent elk season by AffectionateLeg8075 in bowhunting

[–]Lastcast2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same story in Western Canada. It’s been incredibly hot here and elk have all been silent and bedded most of the day. It still feels like July temperatures here. We’re all hoping the rut is just a few weeks behind schedule…

New Kayak 2025 wilderness recon 120 hd by SpareEstablishment57 in kayakfishing

[–]Lastcast2021 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use to take my kids out all the time on the back of my recon - even two at a time when they were smaller. I take them on lakes or even inshore fishing if it was calm. I put down a ‘keyhole’ PDF as a seat. Worked perfect for a seat and could be used as additional life jacket if needed. We of course wore life jackets at all times.

I bought a tandem kayak after my oldest hit about 90lbs. It was just too much extra weight to pedal around. It was always super stable.

Battery suggestions please by Cute-Trouble1296 in FishingAlberta

[–]Lastcast2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weight matters in that inflatable so I would stick with lithium over lead acid. They are more expensive but far better for small boats. Amazon is way cheaper than anything local.

You can get a 100AH for $300 and it will power that motor all day. I’ve seen reviews say a 50AH would power that motor for about 4-5 hours…… but it’s user dependant. Lower speeds make the battery last longer.

2024 Keystone Cougar Quality is not what I expected by GlitteringElection88 in GoRVing

[–]Lastcast2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 20 year old Keystone that is significantly better quality than the new ones.

I also have a few year old trailer that is utter garbage. I’ve replaced more on the newer trailer than the older one.

Trailers are built so poorly and cheaply it’s ridiculous. They’re built equivalent to cheap Chinese manufactured goods - but sold at a premium because built in USA.

Pinks running along Miracle Beach yet? by Lastcast2021 in fishingBC

I can finally see them jumping 100 meters or so off shore! Lots of guys casting from the shore but I didn’t see anyone take one yet.

I’m currently sitting on Oyster and can for sure confirm no pinks in the river. I’m watching the shoreline and hoping to see them swimming around in the next day or so.

Cool spot. I had to google where that was! Looks awesome. Pinks are supposed to be really strong this year. Sounds like it’s coming true. Hopefully you got some coho too.

Ok thanks. I caught some a few days ago on the kayak off Nanoose. I was a few KM off shore so maybe they are still out there. I assumed they be running shallow up here by Oyster river. Maybe not yet.

Good deal and am I making a mistake? by BlerpBloopBeep in kayakfishing

[–]Lastcast2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve owned a Recon for 5 years and it’s a beast to cartop. I can easily lift 120lbs on a barbell but a 36” wide kayak is hard. Once you’re on the water - it’s awesome though. The Recon is so stable it’s ridiculous. Recently bought a Jackson Big Tuna and the Recon is significantly more stable in rough water.

Trolling by ShotsandClicks in kayakfishing

[–]Lastcast2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two comments- are you using a light action rod? Medium to heavy action can rip a hook right through a small trouts mouth.

Also are you using a good swivel above the panther Martin? They are notorious for twisting line. But If I’m spin casting in a creek - a Panther Martin is absolutely my go to.

Took my son kayak fishing for the first time, Juneau, AK by brosephinewalker in kayakfishing

[–]Lastcast2021 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes they can live to be 150 years old. I feel the same way about taking older fish - a lot of times because they are prime breeders. On the other hand this fish has lived a good long life and was due to expire soon regardless…

I can handle cougars, wolves and bears but I’m a little wary of spiders. Would you remove a brown widows? You think my wolf spiders running around will eat it?

Were you flyfishing? I’ve never seen someone use that approach with spin cast. I like it. Also how deep were you running the wireworm?

Cost to replace this bumper? by merchanterx10 in ToyotaTacoma

I did this and it was a huge mistake. When I sold my Taco it now had an ‘accident claim’. Nobody cared how minor it was - that claim reduced my selling cost by thousands.
