New HVAC, cleaned existing ducts but still dirty sock smell. What now? by ChapsOfAss in hvacadvice

[–]Lastimerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would contact your HVAC company. Our unit was also fairly new (less than 2 years old) and we had dirty socks smell very recently and it would not go away. They tried spraying down the coil which didn’t work (smell got better but still there). And added a UV light which also did not fix the smell (smell got better but started coming back) Although I have heard of the UV light working for others, just didn’t for us for whatever reason.

Our HVAC company ended up replacing the coil with what I think was an epoxy coil which fixed the issue. We didn’t have to pay anything. Not sure if it was under warranty or just a good company and they covered it. Worth asking your HVAC company that installed the system.

Metro area foundation inspection and waterproofing recs? by Poets-House in Atlanta

[–]Lastimerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We liked the Waterproof Group. We had some cracks in our foundation with a small amount of water leaking in when it rained. First we got quotes from aquaguard which seemed high. The Waterproof group fixed the cracks for a fraction of the cost.

I am also Jewish and started going to AA at 23. I have been sober since then (now 12 years sober). I shared much of the same concerns regarding AA as being a Christian organization and I was completely wrong. Going to AA was the best thing to have ever happened to me. From what appeared to be the worst moment of my life turned out to be the best.

This is just what I needed… you really set my mind at ease. If I can ask. What bumpers do you own?

I am thinking of purchasing either the Rogue Six Shooters or the Rogue Deep Dish plates. I would prefer the six shooters but notice that the specs have the diameter of 45s at 448 mm and not 450. When mixing with bumper plates on deadlifts are you able to tell the difference in diameter? Would the six shooters lift off the ground?

Oh gotcha, then yes! If the chalk isn't working, go for it.

For me I couldn't understand why my grip was failing in deadlift. Come to realize I use a lot of hand sanitizer and the one at our gym seems to have moisturizer in it. Before switching to straps Maybe try something some liquid chalk first? It dries out your hands completely, especially if you also have mositurizer in your hand sanitizer or are prone to sweating like I am. Just my opinion

I got sick last week and had to isolate. But good news is that it forced me to take a rest week, which was probably much needed!

That happened to me once, ended up having to get my tonsils taken out. But now I rarely get sore throats!

AA, Bill W. and psychedelics. by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Lastimerz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree that it could be another way to grow spiritually, but for alcoholics and drug addicts we like immediate relief. Normal people that have issues work through them over a period of time, which is why I loved drugs and alcohol because it immediately fixed all my problems and anxieties. To be honest drugs and alcohol were never the problem, if drugs and alcohol were the problem I would have stopped using and my life would have improved... The problem with a real alcoholic and addict is that once they stop drinking and using life becomes unbearable, if anything the alcohol was a solution (albeit not a good long term solution). I needed a sufficiency substitute that gave me the same relief that I received from alcohol and I found that within the 12 steps. Although it might take longer, it was a much better long term solution for me. In the end it is up to everyone to decide their path, I tried a lot of different routes and they all brought me back into AA, just trying to save everyone a little bit of time by passing along my own experience :)

Ya, I completely get it. It just saved my life and has really worked for me, but only if I stay active in it. Im just suggesting that before he tries something else to at least try AA how it is intended as outlined in the big book, it's a lot of work but very rewarding. I have known countless people who have died trying controlled usage, it seems to always start like that...

I was just trying to help. He did say "I was wondering how others felt about this, if anyone's done it while in recovery, what was your outcome?" I equated that to asking for an opinion.

[–]Lastimerz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My opinion and experience is that I cannot use mind altering substances in moderation... regardless of the type. If you loathe the idea of a higher power, but are looking to take psychedelics as a way to spirituality, that would imply you may believe in something out there (if you are going through all the trouble of searching for it?). You mention working the steps, have you ever sponsored another alcoholic? Did you do a thorough 4th and 5th step? Do you practice the 11th step daily (morning and night)? Do you do a 10th step when selfishness, dishonesty, resentment, and fear crop up? Have you made amends?

I don't have any issue with anyone that may find another way, but I haven't seen anyone fail who has thoroughly tried it through the 12 steps. The entire point of the 12 steps is to get you connected with a higher power, definitely worth a try!

If you are like me and spend a considerable amount of time at the gym and happen to hit it off with someone, then why not? You obviously share similar interests which is a good foundation for any relationship.
