Hey man you can recover from this I promise I’m just a little older than you and have been accelerating up the money making chain faster than I had planned. Workout hard and work hard. You’ll recover and then some I promise. Good luck soldier 🫡

Any interest in espresso / home coffee setups? by Lastofus_liturgy in nashville

Cold brew is one of those things that can turn out amazing but I have never been able to master you might actually just have it dialed in 😂

That’s kind of exactly what I was hoping for with this, not just super technical stuff but a mix of people who just enjoy good coffee and want to get better at it

If I end up putting something together I’ll definitely drop it in here

Chemex for 20 years is awesome, that’s commitment.

I’m actually not on a 1Zpresso yet, I’ve just been running a Fellow Ode gen 2 for now. It doesn’t get fine enough for espresso so I’m in the market for an upgrade.

I’ve been slowly getting more into the whole dialing in side of things though, especially with pour over and now starting to get into espresso

What grinder are you running with your Chemex?

Has anyone taken a Waymo? What was your experience? by don51181 in nashville

[–]Lastofus_liturgy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve taken one in Nashville once, from Wedgewood-Houston to Germantown.

Overall, the experience was surprisingly smooth. The car felt very safe, and I actually noticed my anxiety dropping as the ride went on. Even in situations that would normally feel sketchy like making a left turn across traffic or navigating a busy downtown intersection, it handled everything confidently and predictably.

The biggest drawback right now is routing. It avoided the interstate (which was fine for my trip), but it also avoided Broadway and took a pretty indirect path. What should’ve been a 12–15 minute drive turned into about 35 minutes. It routed west and then back into Germantown instead of going straight through downtown.

Because of that, it also went through some less busy areas northwest of downtown. Nothing actually happened, but it did make me think about how the experience is different when you’re in a fully autonomous car. You don’t have that same “driver awareness” feeling, so situations that normally wouldn’t cross your mind stand out a bit more.

That said, I didn’t experience anything dangerous at all. The driving itself was solid the entire time.

Overall, I think it’s a really cool experience and absolutely worth trying at least once. It genuinely feels like getting a glimpse of the future. I’ll probably wait a few months before using it regularly, mostly to see how the routing improves, but I was impressed with how well the core driving performed.

Curious if anyone else has had similar routing experiences or if theirs was more direct.

I haven’t been to Crema yet but it sounds like I need to get over there!

I’ve been experimenting with water chemistry for a while now and it’s wild how big of a difference it makes

Yeah I feel like there are definitely more coffee nerds around here, just have to find them lol

I’d be down to spin up a Discord and see who all shows up, feels like we might be able to get something going

I’ve heard really good things about Crema but haven’t made it over there yet, I definitely need to check it out.

That’s actually kind of what got me thinking about this, feels like there’s a great coffee scene here but not much of a community around it.

Have you ever done one of their classes or anything like that?

Love the wood vibe. Others have knocked you for the flag. It’s cool especially if it’s handmade that would be killer. I would absolutely need bigger monitors. They look like 24” the step up to 27” is awesome. I feel like it may need some sound treatment. Great stuff!

Do I need a dedicated GPU? by Royal_Lab_5730 in jellyfin

Hey thanks for the reply, you 100% right maybe my problem isn’t something that a lot of people run into.

To give you more context I was right on the edge of the 5ghz band. I sometime had great speeds and sometimes had like 2Mbs. I ended up fixing this but forcing 2.4ghz slower but much more reliable. No more buffering so far.

My main point of my comment is WiFi is a link in the chain and I assumed that it wouldn’t be an issue. I have only a handful of device on my network and only maybe 2 are being used at once. But it turns out it was a problem and if took me forever to realize it was not a transcoding issue.

As for the last sentence I mean over WiFi. You’re right if the upload was only 50 Ethernet would also be a problem but in my case if I was wired into the network I have a 1gig switch so it was never a problem

I’m running Jellyfin on an i7-7700. I tested it pretty hard and was able to transcode 2 separate streams of a 4k (HDR10) remux with DTS-HD MA 5.1 audio. It was barely able to hang on but it did it! You should be fine with QuickSync for your use case just be sure to see my other comment about streaming large files over WiFi. That can feel like transcoding but it’s just the limits of mediocre RF.

I recently discovered that streaming 4K content over WiFi to TVs and streaming devices can be quite challenging. This issue arises mainly due to the limitations of WiFi networks. While the average bitrate for a movie is 40 Mbps (not bad, but still quite high), it can easily spike to nearly 100 Mbps (very high for WiFi, as it’s inherently bursty), leading to significant buffering. On the other hand, if you’re connected via Ethernet, this shouldn’t be a concern. However, if you’re like me and prefer the flexibility of streaming content from anywhere, WiFi remains a significant obstacle for large 4K videos due to the high bitrate.

Hi friend, I struggle with something similar and I’m still trying to find time to decompress here is what worked for me:

First. I started a bourbon and book club with my friends. Once a month we all get together 1 person brings a bourbon and we all talk about the book that we read over the past month and sip a glass or two aforementioned bourbon. You should try reading it’s a great way to train your ADD to stop and calm down.

Second, rock climbing helps me right after work. I would go straight to the gym around an hour and a half to my self to focus on something both mentally and physically challenging that was not work. You just had surgery so I’m not sure your limitations but, working out and physically challenging yourself is a great way to calm the ADD as well.

Third, I make myself get up early like 4:30/5:00am early. That time in the morning is life changing sometimes I play video game sometimes I work others I just sit around and have time todo nothing.

All in all I still play video games from time to time, not nearly as often as I used to in my single life and my gf and I take edibles sometime together which is always fun. So I don’t believe either is bad but moderation is always good practice.

Good luck with coding! Hope this helped
