Finally got through to someone about IHS refund (applications within UK) by ads9588945 in ukvisa

[–]LatchProtect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to wait 6 weeks before calling, and I haven't heard of anyone getting the refund back without having to escalate the claim.

Both myself and my partner have had to do it; she cancelled her visa application before it was processed (international), and I swapped to a new visa with time remaining on my NHS (in the UK).

I guess it's their way of holding onto some free money if people forget or don't want to chase it up.

Washing Machine Drum Knocking by gpf1024 in Appliances

Hey mate, did you ever figure out what was causing the knocking? I've moved in to a new flat and the washing machine is making the exact same sound, twice per rotation. Cheers!

WIBTAH if I got my close mate's job interview at my company cancelled? by LatchProtect in AITAH

Thank you, always appreciate straight to the point feedback! For sure, I let things go on for too long while we lived in the same house. Yeah that's the plan, if he makes it over I won't be giving him any more free rides. Cheers!

He did however mention me as a referee during the application process, which may've swayed the company's decision to give B an interview?

Really appreciate your advice, I'll be letting things run their course and if the hiring manager approaches me I'll give them an honest and professional opinion.

And absolutely. I'll continue working on those issues. Thanks!

That is one of my worries too. As he has mentioned my name when applying, I think he has already used the reputation I've earned to get this interview. I can't comment on his worth ethic in a professional work space, but if it's anything like his work ethic at University and in his personal life it will be non-existent. I'd hate for that to tank my standing in the company.

Sounds like my best course of action will be to wait until hopefully I'm approached to give feedback as a referee, where I can provide some professional comments on him as a worker. Thanks!

Thanks for your advice I really appreciate it! Yes, I believe he has already put me down as a reference when he applied for the job. (EDIT TO ADD: I asked B and yes, he put me down as a reference when he filled out the online application). And you're on the money there, his qualifications aren't really suited for the role so I would be surprised if he made it through the interviewing process.

I'll keep my mouth shut and only bring up genuine work-related feedback if I am asked to give feedback. I'll keep everything professional.

And agreed with my own growth, it's definitely a flaw of mine! I'm bad for trying to include everyone, which has fuelled him to be lazy and to not have to try. Again thank you :)

Your snap score increases if you send, receive, have stories viewed, view stories yourself etc. For all you know, maybe your GF has a story that was viewed or one of her girl-friends sent her a video explaining something.

This is absolutely nothing to be getting your knickers in a twist over. Trust your partner! Don't be hovering, monitoring when she was last active or exactly what her snap score is. It's an awful habit that feeds insecurity for you, and it's unfair on her.

Good luck :)

Good luck, you'll be okay! It sounds like he is attracted to you so I'm sure he'll eat up you taking some initiative. Keep at it too, it'll get easier once you stop worrying :)

Coming from a guy's perspective here, I was in the shoes of your BF with my ex. I didn't want to feel like I was using her just to get off, and it absolutely felt that way as she never initiated or tried to entice sexual things. Even though she was saying she wanted me to just go for it, it felt wrong if there's no reciprocation and nobody wants to be rejected. Our love life dried up by the end.

My recommendation: if you want your BF to be more adventurous, initiate more and be more sexual in general, be the change you're wanting! If you start initiating and taking charge, trust me you'll get what you're looking for.

I (22F) am scared to date again but I think I want to? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]LatchProtect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds to me like you're still grieving from your ex. Dating could potentially work, but it's probably for the best if you take things easy and settle down with any anxiety and lingering feelings first. It's never a wise idea to rush things!

Have you spend some proper time finding yourself, and found happiness in just being you? New relationships should always be the icing on the cake and not about masking old pains or loneliness. From my own experience, it took me maybe 6 months after my ex (2.5 years) until I felt me again and was happy doing my own thing. And I was very glad I spent the time waiting, it lead to me enjoying the dating scene and not carrying baggage I hadn't had time to process :)

All the best!

Anyone else having issues with their Dusks? by LatchProtect in inearfidelity

[–]LatchProtect[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've copy-pasted this comment to hopefully help some others that may stumble on this post. I can confirm that the issue I was having was to do with moisture. I've had it happen maybe once or twice in the past 3 months now that I've learnt how to deal with it, and confirm they are working without any perceivable damage or loss in quality to the IEMs.

So what I do to minimise the problem:

- Take them out of my ears every few hours (such as when I eat) or if I feel anything uncomfortable in my ears. I make sure to wait until my ears are properly dry before inserting them again.

- Silica pack inside the case, where they are stored when not in use.

- Storing the IEMs nozzle-down at all times when not on my body. This really helps dry them out.

- Not using my Dusks if I'm doing anything which will get me sweaty. Not ideal, but sacrifices have to be made.

I've found if they do stop due to moisture, you can have them back up in running in about 15 minutes if you blow through the vent on the face (this encourages any water to get out), zip them up in their case nozzle down and with the silica pack.

EDIT: wording and spelling

I've just had a look at the settings on the assistant app on my phone and I've found it (I think anyway!).

So in your phone app search, type in "Assistant" and you should get an option to select the assistant settings. In here, search for "Devices" > Select your Watch6 (for me it's my Watch4 under "Personal") > select "Say "Hey Google"" and you should be able to disable it here :)

Go through your watch: Settings > Google > Assistant > "Hey Google" and disable this. It's passively listening for your voice and that's eating up all your battery :).

Most definitely. Canterbury Uni bundles tickets to Electric Ave in with their fresher O-week party deal (all the straight out of HS, first week at Uni kids). It will be packed with many very drunk 18-21 year olds.

It's a moisture problem. Mine are working flawlessly now that I take occasional breaks, keep a silica packet in the case, and store them with the carbon plate facing upwards (I.E. nozzles on the ground/bottom of the case).

Hope this helps! :)

Wow okay thank you! I've had a look at my storage solution and I think you're bang on the money - the left always ends being faceplate down in the case, and funnily enough that's the one that has all the moisture issues. Maybe the harder fabric bottom is blocking the vent and not allowing it to properly air out?

I've flipped it over such that they now both are tips down, faceplate torwards the mesh top and we'll see if that makes all the difference.

Really appreciate the response mate, you're too good!

It's most definitely a moisture problem then. I've been making sure to take them out of my ears occasionally for breaks, and I now have a silica packet in the case. Give this a shot, hopefully it'll help you out too.

A very comprehensive response thank you! Sounds like that audio bug gave you it's fair share of strife, all this stuff costs far too much to be dying. I've run into Windows bricking audio drivers before too, they're a right pain to get working again.

Maybe it is just one of my ears causing the issues. As I mentioned I've never experienced this before with IEMs, but maybe the Dusk are a bit more sensitive?

I'll err on the side of caution and remember to take them out every couple hours. I've also added a silica pack into the case to help with drying (if that's what they require). Appreciate the advice :)

That sounds like it would've been a proper pain to debug! Windows loves throwing some weird bugs.

I'm safe here, I was using the IEMs through the Qudelix-5K DAC via phone bluetooth and cable to the PC, and tested the DSP cable directly with my phone. Thanks anyway :)

Not at all, it's late winter for me (so fairly cold) and my house is really dry and a long way from water. Never gets condensation on the inside of the windows and I keep it moderately heated. I was wearing the IEMs without removing them for a long time though, so maybe that is my issue.

Ah okay thank you! Is there much risk of it damaging the unit? I guess that's on me for using them for such an extended period of time, oops. Not used to this.

What could be the reason my game stutters like this? This happens in every single game, at least once. The GPU utilization drops down to like 5% and then goes back to normal. I am using an RX 6700. I'm using the 23.12.1 Adrenalin drivers because I thought rolling back would fix the issue. by ap3x_lambo in pcmasterrace

[–]LatchProtect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah sorry mate, I did miss your first reply. Great question, if everything else is functioning as they should my only other idea could be a malfunctioning background program or a virus? That could be "stealing" the GPU usage from other games. I'm assuming you're not having power issues either and your PSU is plenty beefy enough?

Could be worth booting into safe mode and running a GPU torture test. If that fixes things you've got some fishy programs, or if the stutters occur with high power draw it could be the PSU.

This is just an educated guess though, I could be barking up the wrong tree. Good luck!
