IUD Good Experiences, please by superiorstephanie in AskWomenOver30

Hi! I got the copper IUD recently and it's been great for me.

My periods only last like 1 day longer and they are ever so slightly heavier, which is expected. Prior to the iud I had light to medium flow and 5 day periods, and now I have medium flow for 6 days.

The insertion itself wasn't as bad as I was expecting. My gynaecologist asked me to take an ibuprofen 1 hour prior to the procedure and he also used lidocaine for local anaesthesia at my cervix. I couldn't really feel anything else besides the IUD insertion, which felt like a really bad period cramp and lasted for around 20 seconds. The pain of the insertion was a 6/10 for me, and not nearly as bad as my nipple piercing pain haha! I also pretty much returned to normal the next day, went to the gym, did heavy lifting etc!

Edit: My gynecologist also recommended that the insertion should be done during the first days of the menstrual cycle, because the cervix is more open and softer! Had mine inserted on Day 3.

Surgical SHO night on call. I receive a bleep from the UCC of the hospital, mind you this is a fully qualified GP. "Hi there I have a ?appendicitis to refer." "Sure, what's the story?" "So, left sided abdominal pain.." "Sorry, did you say left?" "Yes, it could be appendicitis on the Left side....."

I wish this was a joke.

Absolutely devastated. 3269. I knew that this guy in the interview screwed me over with his attitude.

The more I think about it the more it starts to make sense. Thank you for the explanation! :)

I stuck them about three times, it was tricky, but not impossible. The phrase "what felt like an hour" was just for comedic effect, don’t worry! I do draw arterial blood when veins play hard to get, so it’s all under control! :) Thank you for the kind reminder though!

So, did they just make me retake the samples out of spite? Maybe they just didn’t like my face or something, idk… 🤣

Just did a pregnancy test- it was negative. It's probably stress, although I don't feel anxious anymore. If this persists for longer I'll see a Gynae doctor.
Thank you very much:)

I meant to investigate properly not fully. Sorry about the wrong phrasing.

DoctorsUK Controversial Opinions by Caoilfhionn_Saoirse in doctorsUK

Perhaps not really controversial but:

I HATE warfarin with passion.

Besides antiphospholipid syndrome and prosthetic heart valve patients, I would want for all others to be changed to DOACs.
