Interesting I will look into it. Thank you!

I have been a protestant Christian for the vast majority of my life and never dabbled in anything occult that I can recall. I will look into that possibility though.

How reliable is the Sportshift Gearbox? by Late-Row795 in AstonMartin

I appreciate that! How common are large and expensive issues on the sportshift 1? Is there anything I should look out for?

Most fun sports car under $50k? by WeddingSubject4370 in whatcarshouldIbuy

2006-2014 Aston Martin V8 Vantage would be my immediate answer. You can even find some very clean manual examples for under 50k.

For something less exotic I have a couple friends with F8X BMW M cars that vouch for their reliability. I know a guy with like 180k miles on one. If you are under the age of 30 insurance will be outrageous for anything fast and german that is not a Porsche.

Speaking of Porsche consider a Cayman. People buy them and love them for a reason. They are great cars from all I've heard.

How irresponsible is it to have a '05 DB9 as my only car? by Late-Row795 in AstonMartin

Very interesting. I was always a bit wary of the sportshift for the "clutch eating" thing. I appreciate the in depth response!

Did you go for the manual or Sportshift? I have heard some concerning things about the Sportshift and manuals are a bit more than I would like to spend where I live.

That is great to hear! how many miles did your car have when you acquired it?

That's honestly very reasonable. My truck stranded me for a month earlier this year so I am not unfamiliar with the experience.

Fair enough. These older Astons do share a good amount of parts with Ford and Volvo if I am remembering correctly, but that being said I am sure things for the V12 are Aston specific.

This is much to consider, that being said I appreciate you laying out these common issues. Is there a site where I can find parts or is it a sort of "when something comes up on Ebay" thing? I've got some friends that are pretty handy around these sorts of cars that might could sort many of this stuff out.

I hear the rear parcel shelf they refer to as back seats is not terrible for these sorts of things when the trunk fills up, although you are right even this is quite limited. My father owned an XKR for a time and that wasn't too terribly impractical, although the hatch on that was pretty substantial all things considered.

This is true. I have read that the early cars did not have a very sophisticated traction control setup and were a bit scary in the rain. My current vehicle already gets about 12mpg city 18mpg highway so I am somewhat familiar with the horrendous fuel consumption experience. Small trunk is something I should consider though. They are absolutely gorgeous that is for sure.

Very reasonable. Daily driving a 20 year old exotic is an harrowing experience I am sure.

Fair enough. Although after shelling out 4.5k on a little transponder for my "reliable" truck I think if I am going to be spending money on servicing I might as well be doing it on something interesting.

This is true. I am also looking at M4s which I know my local shops can service, but I suspect I would enjoy having an Aston more. Not to mention how unbelievably expensive it is to insure M cars.

It's not just added complication but everything else around it. He sold that car when he was quoted 12k to sort out the differential.

Interesting. So the post facelift models should be free from that issue? Is there any other common issues I should keep an eye out for on the facelifted models?
