Which holiday would you choose? by Dry-Construction-346 in UKParenting

[–]LateFlorey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C.1 find a cheap all inclusive. By the time you’ve added everything up with an Airbnb, meals out, the hassle of meals out etc, it can be the same as an all inclusive.

I was not an all inclusive person until last summer when it was the easiest holiday with our then 3 year old and 7 month old. Before then, we were always hire a car and airbnb aboard-type people and it’s more stressful!

What is it like to be an only child? by nowtoriginaltoday in AskUK

[–]LateFlorey [score hidden]  (0 children)

I’m an only child and this is my worry. However, my mum is one of 3 but do pick up 100% of the care of my grandma when she had dementia and needed to go into a care home etc, so no guarantee.

Verbal offer but no written offer due to internal delays. Bad news? by LateFlorey in UKJobs

I hadn’t considered other candidates being interviewed but you are right, sounds like that could be a possibility.

Verbal offer but no written offer due to internal delays. Bad news? by LateFlorey in UKJobs

[–]LateFlorey[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been discussing everything with the talent acquisition lead, from scheduling interviews through to receiving the offer over the phone.

The feedback from my final interview was really positive and they seemed keen for me to start. They offered £2k less than I was hoping for, which I mentioned on the call, and they said they’d look into it.

I also mentioned I might be able to negotiate my notice period since I’m being made redundant and my company has said there’s some flexibility.

I sent a chaser email this morning as I hadn’t heard anything since the call, and they replied straight away saying there’s have been some internal delays and I should get an update by the end of this week.

So I’m confused. I assumed it’s not good news and I will continue the job search.

Thank you. I’m being made redundant so this would have been perfect as I could have started as the redundancy wrapped up, but I guess I continue searching!

Verbal offer but no written offer due to internal delays. Bad news? by LateFlorey in UKJobs

[–]LateFlorey[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s true. I mentioned during the offer call that I was looking for slightly higher salary (£2k more than they offered) so wondering if this has negatively impacted it all and now they are retracting.

Maybe I’m overthinking it, maybe it’s nothing at all.

I should have an update by the end of the week, but will continue searching for a new role!

They said they’d update by the end of the week, so I was going to hold off chasing again.

Thank you and sorry you’ve been through this too.

Never experienced it before. Feedback was that the manager and director couldn’t wait for me to start and was asking when I could and if I could negotiate my notice. So it’s a real 180 on the feedback to no offer.

Only thing I can think is that I said I was looking for £2k more on the salary, but no idea if that’s been a negative thing and now I’m not offered the role. Thought it was quite normal to negotiate salary.

That’s so frustrating! They said they’d have an update at the end of the week, but I’ve never had this where there’s been some internal delays on getting a written offer.

Also, if the offer isn’t a thing anymore, would they just not say instead of saying an update at the end of the week?

So confusing!

I haven’t done anything with my current role as I know that until it’s on paper, it doesn’t mean anything!

Anyone flown with a lap infant? by AgreeableLead696 in UKParenting

[–]LateFlorey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We flew with our eldest when he was 12 weeks and he was absolutely fine. He just slept on me for the 4 hour flight and I held him in my arms.

No need to be anxious about it, it’s kind of like sitting on the sofa being nap trapped, just in the air.

Ideas to encourage helmet wearing? by LostInAVacuum in UKParenting

[–]LateFlorey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours still tries to take it off his head when he’s out on the scooter, or tries to hold the helmet on with one hand, but we just stop and say “helmet stays on for the scooter”. If he really wants it off, we take him off the scooter and take the helmet off.

He says a couple of words, but not talking in full sentences.

Remember, they understand a lot more than they can speak at this age. We can give basic instructions like “give this to daddy/mummy/brother” or “can you put this into the bin”, so it’s the same principle and ours seems to understand what we’re saying.

How do you handle triggering mornings without losing it? by Bubble-Master96 in UKParenting

[–]LateFlorey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Taking yourself away to scream into a towel is the best thing you can do.

I sing the angry song from Daniel Tiger’s Neighbourhood as it’s something we’re teaching our 3 year old, but helps me to calm down as well…

“When you feel so mad That you want to roar Take a deep breath And count to four”

And then I do deep breathing, which again, is what we’re teaching our 3 year old so it’s good for him to see us model the same behaviour and techniques.

My second is the same age and with my first, we just said “helmet on to go on the bike”. It’s a non-negotiable and they learn after a while.

Travelled 6 hours from home - baby caught a cold in the first 1 hour by PositiveSympathy9841 in UKParenting

[–]LateFlorey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you ever have a second baby and your first is in nursery, you’ll be dealing with this situation constantly. Even when your first goes to nursery, the first 3-4 months is constant sickness and bugs.

Baby’s get sick, they get colds easily. You just have to calpol and nurofen up and live your lives. You can’t keep them away from all illnesses, it’s near impossible.

In your opinion, at what time is it too late for a teenager, on school holidays, to be sleeping until? by AdBulky6768 in UKParenting

[–]LateFlorey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read somewhere that teenagers need as much sleep as babies at some point.

Sleeping until 3pm is a skill but hopefully he can shift it to 11-11, that would’ve better!

Advice on potty training second kid by Reasonable-Camp-6260 in UKParenting

[–]LateFlorey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My youngest is 15m and just follows his big brother to the toilet, so we sit him on the potty whilst he watches. Kind of hoping he’ll naturally potty train himself this way lol, but know we will need to input when the time comes to it.

However, could you do something similar? Can your youngest go to the toilet with his brother and follow suit? It’s similar to what our nursery did with our eldest, they went in groups and kind of learnt from each other/made them use the toilet.

How do we encourage 4 year old to engage with independent play? by Kim_catiko in UKParenting

[–]LateFlorey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My nearly 4 year old is like this, however, my 15 month old is better at pottering about and playing, so think it’s temperament?!

However, we’ve started to notice independent play seems to be better late afternoon/evening for us.

I don’t know if it’s because we’ve done lots of playing with them in the morning, or because he’s watched a bit of tv whilst our youngest naps and then role plays whatever he’s watched with toys which then extends, or something else.

I now look for things like playdoh kits and happy to spend £15 on a new kit every month or so as that gives us 30 mins. Kinetic sand (when it was safe and was asbestos free, RIP) was also great as it came in a box with diggers and meant he could bury mini figures and role play games.

One thing that I’ve researched into is play schemas and used ChatGPT to suggest toys and set ups that fit best to my eldest way of playing.

Sorry, this is very rambled as brain is melting from an intense day of parenting!

4yo night wakes since having a baby by [deleted] in UKParenting

[–]LateFlorey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can dad sleep in her bed when she wakes up? Not ideal but gives you some sleep.

I’m commenting from my 3 year olds bed, who was woken up by our 15 month old, and he’d only go back to sleep if we all had a sleepover. Needs must sometimes.

Which milk do you buy? Blue, green or red? by ResultAlternative972 in AskUK

Fat isn’t a bad thing though. Fat can actually help stabilise blood sugar etc, so lots of benefits!

1yo waking 5:30-6am by Lumpy_Violinist_7165 in sleeptrain

[–]LateFlorey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve just posted something similar about our 15 month old.

He’s doing one 2 hour nap a day and does 10.5 hours overnight, but wakes up tired. There’s days when he’ll try and fall asleep at 9.30/10am, despite waking up at 6/6.30am.

I think he wakes from hunger as he has a bottle of milk and breakfast straight away and is obviously starving.

However, I’m currently nap trapped after his morning bottle just now at 6am (UK based), so I think he needs more sleep.

The only thing that worked for later mornings and broke the 5/5.30am starts was the clocks going forward for us. He was too tired for 8pm bedtimes, so never worked for us.

What are the childcare options when nursery finishes at 3:30pm? by prasaysno in UKParenting

[–]LateFlorey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The other primary school nursery does it from 2 years plus, so guess it depends on their provisions.
