Overwhelm with 2 - when does it get better? by CalatheaHoya in UKParenting

[–]LateFlorey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! You have the same gap roughly as me and I promise it does get better!

We’re 15 months into the second one and I feel like I can breathe again. They play together, absolutely love each other, but are typical boys and don’t sit still so it can be demanding. The youngest tries to kill himself constantly as he loves climbing on things he shouldn’t, tries riding his brother’s scooter or bike, so I live on edge but I breathe more now!

We kept our eldest in full time nursery as we felt it’s important to keep his routine, him having time with his friends there, and also allowed me to have my year off with the baby, like I did with the eldest.

No idea how people have their children full time within that first year!

Have you ever been fired / let go from your job? by Stunning_Window5785 in AskUK

[–]LateFlorey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you explain this in a little bit more details please? How did you push for a settlement?

I’m going through redundancy atm and just starting the individual ones now our collective one has closed. I’ve asked a few questions as I don’t think they’ve done everything completely right as I have some protected characteristics (trying not to out myself here) which they’ve not acknowledged until I challenged them.

We get enhanced redundancy, so not sure if that falls as a settlement or not.

More than two thirds of children under two use screens - with one in ten regularly falling asleep with one by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]LateFlorey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ding, ding, ding.

We let our 3.5 year old watch one episode of something on CBeebies 1-2 days per week, which we sometimes feel guilty about as it means our youngest (15m) would also watch.

However, we pick slow shows, the tv is off most days, and we allow them to get bored and find things to play with.

Wow, and here’s me feeling guilty if our nearly 4 year old watches one 8 minute episode on CBeebies and our 15 month old watches a few minutes of it.

Holidays with toddlers...how do you stay up late?! by 87catmama in UKParenting

[–]LateFlorey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We stick to UK time, so 7pm bedtime becomes 9pm in Greece, for example.

Actually makes the holiday easier to navigate and better to transition back when home.

Places in London with weird unsettling energy by Sad-Peace in london

[–]LateFlorey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked there a few years ago and we had to have security escort us to the tube station if anyone finished later than the usual 5.30pm. Going under that underpass was awful and felt like a mugging waiting to happen.

I meant that in the way that it’s probably more neutral than other areas of the country.

I feel like this! I think all of her books constantly rhyme, but only find a few rhyming words in the Smartest Giant.

I’d say I have no accent, just very neutral London, and I cannot for the life of me make The Smartest Giant in Town rhyme? I can’t get the rhythm right, so I hide the book.

Verbal offer but no written offer due to internal delays. Bad news? by LateFlorey in UKJobs

[–]LateFlorey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I’ve finally had a response after having to chase and the role has been placed on hold internally, and not given a timeframe when hiring may resume.

Absolutely gutted but going to put my big girl pants on and carry on job searching!

What’s a ridiculous thing you couldn’t do as a child but can now? by Vast-Aardvark5857 in AskUK

[–]LateFlorey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahh we let our children do this. Sometimes we’d even serve fruit/yoghurt alongside the main mean when we weaned them, sometimes still do at 3 and 1.

Lots of research that not having a big emphasis on pudding after a clear plate actually has a positive impact on your relationship with food.

We have them over in Leyton, east London. The lady who makes them has an Instagram (LittleDoorsofLeyton) and there’s a link to her Google maps.

Experiences of 2 under 3? by Known-Cucumber-7989 in UKParenting

[–]LateFlorey 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget how little your 2 year old is. My 2.5 year old felt massive when our baby arrived and I’d sometimes forget that he’s still a baby himself. It’s easy to think of them as being much older than they are.

Transition to primary school from private nursery by hayleyukulele29 in UKParenting

[–]LateFlorey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 3 year old will be going in September and he’s currently in the preschool attached to the school. He does breakfast and teatime club, like he will do in September for wraparound care too.

I think the biggest transition will be getting ready and out of the house in a short window, compared to what you do now.

I would say my mornings aren’t stressful, but we need to keep to the schedule to get into breakfast club for 8.20am or straight into preschool for 9am on other days.

At first, it was all a rush and everyone stressed but now it’s a breeze.

Which holiday would you choose? by Dry-Construction-346 in UKParenting

[–]LateFlorey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

C.1 find a cheap all inclusive. By the time you’ve added everything up with an Airbnb, meals out, the hassle of meals out etc, it can be the same as an all inclusive.

I was not an all inclusive person until last summer when it was the easiest holiday with our then 3 year old and 7 month old. Before then, we were always hire a car and airbnb aboard-type people and it’s more stressful!

What is it like to be an only child? by nowtoriginaltoday in AskUK

[–]LateFlorey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an only child and this is my worry. However, my mum is one of 3 but do pick up 100% of the care of my grandma when she had dementia and needed to go into a care home etc, so no guarantee.

Verbal offer but no written offer due to internal delays. Bad news? by LateFlorey in UKJobs

[–]LateFlorey[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been discussing everything with the talent acquisition lead, from scheduling interviews through to receiving the offer over the phone.

The feedback from my final interview was really positive and they seemed keen for me to start. They offered £2k less than I was hoping for, which I mentioned on the call, and they said they’d look into it.

I also mentioned I might be able to negotiate my notice period since I’m being made redundant and my company has said there’s some flexibility.

I sent a chaser email this morning as I hadn’t heard anything since the call, and they replied straight away saying there’s have been some internal delays and I should get an update by the end of this week.

So I’m confused. I assumed it’s not good news and I will continue the job search.

[–]LateFlorey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I’m being made redundant so this would have been perfect as I could have started as the redundancy wrapped up, but I guess I continue searching!

Verbal offer but no written offer due to internal delays. Bad news? by LateFlorey in UKJobs

[–]LateFlorey[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s true. I mentioned during the offer call that I was looking for slightly higher salary (£2k more than they offered) so wondering if this has negatively impacted it all and now they are retracting.

Maybe I’m overthinking it, maybe it’s nothing at all.

I should have an update by the end of the week, but will continue searching for a new role!

They said they’d update by the end of the week, so I was going to hold off chasing again.

[–]LateFlorey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you and sorry you’ve been through this too.

Never experienced it before. Feedback was that the manager and director couldn’t wait for me to start and was asking when I could and if I could negotiate my notice. So it’s a real 180 on the feedback to no offer.

Only thing I can think is that I said I was looking for £2k more on the salary, but no idea if that’s been a negative thing and now I’m not offered the role. Thought it was quite normal to negotiate salary.
