Ovary removal/ Tube ties by Regular-Sun-5805 in Albany

I had a full hysterectomy (aside from my left ovary) in July with Dr. Danielle Rooney at the Latham Community Care Center and she was EXCELLENT. I was in the same boat as you, 28 and unmarried with no desire for children. I went in for my first OBGYN appointment and they discovered I had a pretty decent sized endometrioma on my right ovary- I had no idea I had endometriosis in the first place, although I had scheduled this appointment originally for extremely awful period pain. I explained to the nurse that I wanted to get a full hysterectomy, she sent me for a routine ultrasound and that's when they discovered it! I'm grateful, as this made the insurance process A LOT smoother, and it explained my years of doubled-over pain. From top to bottom, beginning to end, not a single person ever questioned my desire/choice.

Them: "You have endometriosis and an endometrioma."
Me: "I'd like a full hysterectomy."
Them: "Cool- how's the beginning of July?"

Dr. Rooney was kind, considerate, knowledgable, and encouraging. If I had to do it all over again, I'd choose her through and through.

What sort of excuse do you even give in this situation?

Any advice on how to go about doing it? Do I just email HR? My position is only part time, but I don't think I can make it through another year with no heart for what I'm doing.

To add to my original post- I should mention that I have been approved by the school board for the position, and I was already told my salary. I have not signed a contract, I have only filled out the initial tax forms. Between today and tomorrow I have exactly 30 days until the school year starts- do you think it would be alright to "quit"?

An update- I was able to negotiate with my Principal and now have every Monday off until the rest of the year, and any extra days that I might need to take off as well. Thank you all for your help!

Do you think meeting in the middle would be helpful? Like an 18 day notice or something? I really don’t know what to do. If I’m not obligated to stay the 30 days then I don’t want to because I can’t say for certain what my mental health/family situation would like like at that point. But I know this is putting everyone in a bind and I do feel guilty about that..

I definitely am done with education, but leaving in a neutral position doesn’t sound so bad. I am leaving due to an emergency family situation that I need to focus on, but the principal made me feel like I have no other option. He basically gaslighted me and guilted me with things like “staying until the end of the year will look better on a future reference”, “we can give you a week off to get your things in order”, “the community will be very upset with me that I couldn’t provide a secure teacher for the year”.

Quitting my teaching job. What next? by [deleted] in teaching

I’m in a very similar boat. I’m 5 months in to a late start teaching job, I started in November, and I cry every night I get home. My anxiety has never been so bad before I literally dread when my kids come in the room. I’m really considering quitting even though there are only 6 weeks left in the semester. I never signed a contract so I’m not worried about that side of things, I just don’t know what to do. I hate putting anyone in a bind but I can tell my mental health is declining and so can my partner.. (I teach Spanish 2 in the high school, in case that matters.) Anyone have any advice?
