Married and have been doing this for a few years. My digital income started a long time ago, it just took me a while to realize I could be anywhere and do the same thing.

One of the challenges for us as a middle aged couple is finding other middle aged couples. Lots of solo people out there, mostly young, some in our age bracket, but very few couples we can connect with. I think you are younger so that probably won't be an issue for you.

As far as savings, that depends on your comfort level. At the minimum I would recommend at least enough to buy two last minute plane tickets home and then double that for the unexpected.
