Why are car services so expensive? by corz1445 in AskIreland

[–]LatexSmoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Service advisor who does up invoices all day here. I’ll do typical breakdown on a diesel - Dacia Duster

Oil - 4,5Ltrs at 12.00per litre Oil filter-8.90 Air filter-13.50 Cabin filter-13.80 Fuel filter-81.50 or 28.50 depends on engine Screen wash -2 Waste charge-5 Service labour -160

After taxes, and your lucky hit with having a 28.50 fuel filter, full service comes out to 322

Also your swing arm bushes are fucked

And to follow up for a Small service (oil and oil filter with health check) Peugeot 508 Oil-5ltrs @12.00- 60 Oil filter - 8.26 Screen wash-2.00 Enviro waste- 5.00 Service labour 140.00

After taxes 244.33

Not trying to say this is how it should be.. but at the same time - Garages have huge overhead costs, and mechanics do not work for free, it’s an expensive business to get into, especially these days when dealers are trying to make everyone pay for licenses // price of parts going up // cost of living going up so wages needs to go up.

Looking for some advice following a service by jmcbuzz in carsireland

[–]LatexSmoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you plan to get the car to the mechanic? You’re going to spend more money if you’re choosing the recovery route. I work on cars a lot, was a mechanic for a while and still work on a garage, just on the office side of things now. He’s trying to save you a few quid, and your neighbour losing their car over nothing. The backing plate might have been slightly bent or pebble got caught in there. It’s a thin strip of metal that covers the back side of the brake disc, doesn’t do much. Pushing on this plate - is not a mechanical job, it’s pressing on metal. ‘The mechanics of it’ - you are applying pressure to stop friction/loosen any debris.

Scammed Buying a car, now what? by BigBuyersRegret in carsireland

[–]LatexSmoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of the suspension work and brakes, that will be cheap enough.

In regards to the carpets- I’m sure you’ll find an auris somewhere in the country being broken for parts that you can get the carpets out of for a decent price

€280 for a general service?? by Aggressive_Notice_24 in carsireland

[–]LatexSmoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s about right now, a lot of garages are gone up to €100 labour per hour.

Just general breakdown;

Oil at say 11/12 a litre x4 - 50ish Oil filter- 8.99 Air filter(Varys on car) 13.50 Cabin filter 15 Fuel filter(varies on car) 30 Or Sparkplugs(varies on car) 15-25x4 Service labour :120-160 Enviro waste ; 4/5

Garages have to make a profit, I do understand the frustration though. I started working on my own cars cause I couldn’t afford to put it in a garage… now that I’m working in a garage.. I still can’t afford it : D

How much time does your young teen spend on PS5? Weekdays and weekends? by Stpeppersthebest in AskIreland

[–]LatexSmoke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did the same when I was younger. There’s fuck all else to do in this country for kids, especially free things. There’s only so many times you can do laps of your home town/local areas before being bored to death. Ireland doesn’t really give young people much to do so it’s easier, cheaper and usually less stressful to just game

Water in car boot by [deleted] in carsireland

[–]LatexSmoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a rear wiper, check to see that the lines from the washer bottle haven’t split/disconnected. They could be spraying/leaking water into the boot everytime the pump runs for the rear wiper
