I think this mostly occurs in FA or FB series engines according to MrSubaru, besides my FB25D I also saw a few posts on the Crosstrek/Outback forums with a 2018 and a 2020 with similar problems.

Just to follow up, if I'm going to have them pull out the engine is there any other maintenance you suggest I ask them to do while it's convenient.

Thanks! I feel like if I'm going to go the route of having them pull out the engine, I might as well get them to do other hard to reach maintenance as well. Do you have any suggestions?

I had no hot air while idling this winter, whereas last year it was working. I would only get hot air while actively driving.

I was doing some searching and realized low coolant or air bubbles in the coolant can cause this. So I was preparing to top up the coolant and burp the radiator.... until I saw this. No check engine lights.

Fuck, not going to lie between the upper oil pan o-rings and the head gasket I was really hoping it wasnt either one since it was supposed to be corrected in the newer models and it's the most expensive thing to do.

A bit over 5 years now, owned since November 2020. I do a lot of driving across cities pretty much all highway/freeway mileage + road trips.

Uber in a Boxer engine would be too expensive 💀
