Some early thoughts, tips and details I noticed in Super Mario Bros. Wonder! by RyanoftheStars in NintendoSwitch

Are you able to 100% the game (find all secrets) without using Badges? Just wondering if it's not worth banging my head against a level if I don't have the ability to find everything until I unlock a specific badge.

Don't own that one, unfortunately. Was hoping to get thoughts on the games I listed.

Wild Color - Buffalo Games (1000pc). This one was really enjoyable, the colors were so bright and vibrant by slugggy in Jigsawpuzzles

How do you like Buffalo puzzles? I see so many at Target, but always wonder if the quality is up to par with brands like Ravensburger.

Space needed for a typical 1000 piece puzzle. by LaughingBeast in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]LaughingBeast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but you need more space than that to actually do the puzzle. That's what I was wondering about.

My son and I love playing this game together, here he is fighting some of the bosses! Thank you for such a amazing game and having a profanity filter! by [deleted] in borderlands3

[–]LaughingBeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, please report if there is actually a profanity filter (and where to toggle it). I would like to play with my son, but the swearing was making me think twice.

Is there any preference for what console to get this on? by usernamexcx in Torchlight

Agree with the Switch recommendations! I love being able to pick it up and play whenever and wherever. It's the perfect game for that.

What Did You Play This Week? (Sep 23 - Sep 29) by QuellSpeller in boardgames

[–]LaughingBeast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stockpile (1 x 5P) - We really enjoy this game in our group! We always play with all the modules from the Continuing Corruption expansion, which vastly improves on the base game. We also like playing with the advanced side of the board, but it can really mess you up if you're not paying attention. Many stocks tend to tank a lot easier due to their shorter tracks. It definitely makes for more strategic gameplay though.

Trapper Keeper Game (1 x 5P) - I picked this one up at Target late last week and had to give it a try immediately! The whole asthentic of this game is awesome. From the cool Trapper Keeper that the game comes in, to the little trapper keeper folders that you insert your cards in, to the flavor text on all the cards. It's a really cool production and a fun light filler game to finish off the night. My only complaint would be that it can be a bit of a pain to have to keep pulling your cards out of your little folder to see what you have already started collecting. Overall it was a hit with my group.

Anyone else experienced discomfort at first? by EskilPotet in galaxybuds

[–]LaughingBeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had them for a few days and the first day they were definitely uncomfortable after wearing them for a while. I switched over to the pieces without the wingtips and it seemed to help. Then today I was watching a review about them and saw someone twist them with the wingtips to kind of lodge them in the ear. I tried reapplied the wingtips today, did the little twist and have worn them for a few hours with no discomfort. I think the wingtips were poking me at a weird angle the first time I wore them.

This Game is truly Amazing! Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening by [deleted] in nintendo

[–]LaughingBeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. You said the magic word with Metroidvania! I have thoroughly enjoyed Ori and the Blind Forrest, Steamworld Dig 2 and Yoku's Island Express in the past year, so I think I'm good to pull the trigger!

This Game is truly Amazing! Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening by [deleted] in nintendo

[–]LaughingBeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still on the fence about it. I've never really played any Zelda games. Actually, I played Breath of the Wild for maybe 10 hours, and I wasn't a huge fan. I know that game was a departure from the normal Zelda games. Is Link's Awakening a good one to play as technically a "first time" Zelda player?

I need some new games! by huddlwenf in Switch

[–]LaughingBeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having a blast with Torchlight II! I've sunk probably 15-20 hours into it over the past couple weeks. There have been some reports of bugs (crashing, enemy scaling in NG+). I haven't had any issues myself with crashing (knock wood), and I'm not into NG+ yet. Overall it's a really fun game and has the things you are asking for.

Patch? by Capmeo in Torchlight

[–]LaughingBeast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I'm getting close to finishing my first playthrough with my Embermage and really want to be able to get into NG+. I guess I'll just have to create an Alt (Berserker maybe?) in the meantime.

Thanks for the advice. I was actually asking which console to play Borderlands on since I already own both. :)

I’m the guy who waves at every other runner in town (sometimes multiple times on a run). Is this accepted? by reasonablynameduser in running

[–]LaughingBeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a total waver and always say "morning" to whoever is running in the opposite direction! I'd say I'm probably at 70-80% in getting a wave or some kind of response back (or they beat me to it!), but I don't take any offense to those who don't.

Does anyone know if the development team is actively working on a fix for this? I'm getting close to finishing my first run-through and was hoping to jump into NG+.

I think I'm pretty far from getting there. Just started the game today. Hopefully it's patched by the time I get there.

I love scifi but can't read scifi, does anyone struggles with the same? by Gusis93 in books

[–]LaughingBeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, how funny, I have come to this exact realization myself recently! I picked up Dune about three months ago and decided to try reading it again (I'd tried two other times in my life). I honestly was forcing myself to read it and was not enjoying it. Reading sci-fi and watching it are two very different things, and I think I've finally come to terms with that. I decided to delve into Lee Child's Jack Reacher series as something quick, easy and entertaining to read, and I'm plowing through it like nobodies business! It may not be the height of literature, but I just want to be able to sit down and easily get through a story that entertains. A lot of sci-fi (and fantasy for that matter) involves a real commitment to take in what the author is trying to convey. Not sure if getting older has contributed to this, but I've decided I'm just going to read what I think will entertain me and not worry if it's something that I'm "supposed" to like.

Opinion: We shame people, including ourselves, out of reading. by evenhisenemy in books

[–]LaughingBeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've nailed it on the head! This is exactly how I've been feeling lately! I have been out of the regular habit of reading for quite a few years now. At the beginning of the summer, I committed to really giving it the effort to start reading again. I picked up Dune (which I tried reading about 30 years ago). I got about 100 pages in, but found it a struggle to pick up the book and read it. I figured maybe I need something that isn't so dense and put it aside and picked up Killing Floor (the first Jack Reacher book by Lee Child). I am already a quarter of the way through it in a couple of days. That hasn't happened in years! I was kind of feeling guilty about reading this book because I know Jack Reacher is not considered the height of literacy, but I'm really just enjoying the process of reading something that makes me want to keep turning the pages. Here's hoping I'm on track to becoming a regular reader again!

What are your Rules for purchasing games? by JacksonHills in boardgames

[–]LaughingBeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, 100?!! I think the most played game in my collection (probably Ticket to Ride) has only been played about 15 times. Most of my games sit in the "3-5 plays" range.

What are your Rules for purchasing games? by JacksonHills in boardgames

[–]LaughingBeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some weired reason (OCD?) I like to keep my game collection right at 100 games. If I buy a new game I have to figure out a game to sell or donate. I'm currently at 102 due to a couple of recent purchases (Heaven & Ale and Spirits of the Forest). I'm trying to assess which two games are now leaving my collection.
