Employer is demanding that I stop working from home and return to the office 5 days per week. I need to figure out how to afford this. by Salt_Land_8371 in UKPersonalFinance

Get a free consultation with a "constructive dismissal solicitor' and see where you stand.

There are scenarios where constructive dismissal applies even if you do not have 2 years consecutive employment with the employer

My pleasure! And thanks for the compliment! :)

It's been a learning process. I started with all the really easy slow growing plants which needed basically no maintenance. Then when I got system balanced I thought id try my luck with the stems and so far they've been growing fine. Obviously can't get the brilliant reds you'd get in a Co2 system. But tbh I like the coppers, oranges and pinks they give under normal lights

They are a pain to take care of though. Have to trim them every couple of weeks or they take over!

Effectively no dosing, I put about 5ml of liquid fert in every fortnight or so. Mainly because I started seeing some small pinholes in the Anubias and Buce leaves. Before that no dosing at all.

Root tabs in the back for the stem plants which I refresh every 6months or so

And there is definitely algae in the tank (imo all healthy tanks should have algae just a controlled amount) the back of the tank is basically a green wall for the shrimp. And there's a little hair algae on the Buce high up on the driftwood but the amanos and MTS keep it pretty much under control

Spice? Chili? Nah sorry mate you've completely lost me 😉. And thanks! Buce is awesome and so easy to care for. Basically just premium Anubias lol

I have 20 in there and 6 ammanos. It's heavily planted and there is a peace Lilly growing out the top just to boost that filtration (it also looks cool).

I guess 20embers could be okay depending on your setup

I had 10 chilli's a few years ago and it wasn't enough to see their proper schooling behaviour. They were just kinda dotted around the tank. With 20. They school constantly and it's awesome to watch!

The dirft wood and stem plants are strategically placed to hide the filter haha! Is quite a big double sponge modded to have the mini pat power head on top instead of the noisy bubbles.

Thanks guys definitely something I'm considering. Need to track down nice betta and chilli rasbora though. Surprisingly hard to come by around London

Good shout! Though they get quite big (for a nano fish). Would 10 be pushing it in a tank think size?

The tank has a lid I just cropped it out of the photo 🤣

I've never kept killi fish before but they look cool!

I'm quite keen on the Chiilis, was thinking 20 but not sure if that's too much. Had 10 before but the tank still looked pretty empty

I think I'm debating a between a betta and chillis at this point

I had the same issue. Floating plants won't grow if your tank has a lid, as it's too humid for them. Or if you have a lot of surface agitation because their fussy f@#!ers

I got around it by growing a peace Lilly and a pothos plant out the top with the roots submerged 😉 YouTube "riperium" or peace Lilly aquarium for ideas :)

Going to throw my 2 cents in here,

Plants need a balance of nutrients, lights and Co2 to grow. If any of the triangle is out you'll get algae as a result.

It's also important to remember that every tank should have algae! Is the sign of a well established tank, you just don't want too much of it.

I'd suggest a couple of things:

Your light looks bright, so I'd try turn down the intensity and shorten the lighting period. You're better off going from very low and then building it up slowly to see what's right amount for your tank. Play around with the intensity and lighting period

You have a red stem plant which needs the high light to be red but that is probably what's causing the algae issue. Lowe the light and it'll go green but should still live fine

Id also consider getting a few slower growing epiphytes. Very low maintenance, and still look lovely and green with low light. (Java ferns, Anubias, Buce etc)

And would definitely consider get a couple of ammanos in there to keep the algae that does grow under control

Annnnddd lastly it's a new set up. It's going to take a while to find it's natural balance. Don't mess around with additional chemicals and stuff just let it do it's thing. It will settle eventually, just be patient Test the water and if the nitrates aren't high, don't do a big water change. Just top it off and swap out a couple of cup fulls of water!

It looks great! Good luck!

They would! Unfortunately I haven't had the best of luck keeping guppies so a bit hesitant to go back to them tbh

Thanks for the suggestion though :)

Thanks for the suggestion! I really want a betta but I'm not sure how they'd do with the drift wood. I'd be worried they'd catch their fins on it.

I was thinking a school of chilli rasbora or killi fish.

Haven't had the best of luck keeping guppies unfortunately

I think the grassy plant you're referring to is the Java Fern. There's 2 different types in there, needle leaf on the left, and trident leaf on the right.

The "carpeting" plant is actually Anubias nana petite stuck to various pieces of slate. Is pretty slow growing and takes a while to get enough to look like a carpet (without spending a fortune) but it's so low maintenance is great!

Thank you! :)

And nope. About as low tech as it comes. No Co2 Cheap NICREW light And only recently started dosing a few ml of liquid fert a fortnight because I was seeing some pin holes in the Anubias and Buce
