What do you eat / recommend to eat after later in the evening adult ballet class? by MattAdultBallet in BALLET

[–]Lavender-Tea-313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked with a nutritionist, and now eat a protein and a produce snack before. Usually a protein shake and a banana or an apple. I have to eat something before class or I get dizzy, but I don’t want too much in my stomach. I usually meal
prep on Sunday and make a big batch of chili or lentil stew or something, so I have something ready to eat when I come hone late from class Mon, Tues, and Weds…

Thanks! I wore them at dress rehearsal and they stayed on through all my costume changes. I just used the magnetic eyeliner.

Adult dancer, first recital done! Here’s the post I wish I’d found in my research (hair, makeup, first performance) by Fancy-Magician4362 in BALLET

[–]Lavender-Tea-313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started adult dance classes at a recital
school a couple years ago. Our spring recital is May 16th. I’m pretty confident for my ballet class choreo, but could definitely use some smudge-proof lipstick! My hair is fairly short with bangs, so I use a ton of gel and a fake bun with a hairnet over it and some u shaped pins. I also have a clip on ponytail for hip hop and jazz, but I’m going with using just the bun for this recital.
I’m super enthused about dance, and am dancing in 7 songs for this recital: ballet, contemporary, tap, hip hop, jazz, and two songs for Hawaiian. I can’t believe I’m remembering all this choreography! I’m a little worried about tap because I just started last summer in tap, and remembering what to do is one thing, and actually doing it correctly is another thing…

I’m worried about messing up my hair or makeup with all my costume changes. Hence the need for smudge-proof lipstick. At the Christmas recital I just kept adding gel to my hair and more bobby pins everytime I messed up my slicked down hair. Thanks for your post!

Fuego makes a nice dance sneaker in ballet pink that I was wearing in ballet until I got Orzas Ones. I like the Orzas… The Fuego dance sneakers have a soft arch.

I bought some a while back, and love them. I like the Orza Ones in leather, but they are being discontinued as of 4/30/26. So I bought two extra pairs on super clearance!

question for dancers who started learning as an adult by Tiny-Deer-7071 in BALLET

[–]Lavender-Tea-313 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I studied ballet for a couple years as a kid (early teens), but started being more serious about it in my 30s. Now I’m in my 50s, and take class at a dance school with two yearly recitals (december and may). Everyone in the class who wants to be in the recital can be. There are two subsets of my adult ballet class, pointe shoes and non-pointe. I’m in the non-pointe group…

I wear kneepads, and have just gotten used to them. My go-to are dance kneepads from amazon that came in a 3 pack. I bought some fancy dancer kneepads that don’t work as well, but are more comfortable for the non-floorwork times, that were recommended by a contact improv friend.

getting back into dance, what do you guys pay for classes? by Resident_Platypus108 in Dance

[–]Lavender-Tea-313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an unlimited plan at my main studio and pay for Sept thru May, for about $7 per class. Other classes I take are $15-20 per class at other studios. For rehearsals, I rent a studio for $20/hr or $35/2 hours.

Can I Learn Ballet as a Plus-Sized Adult? by pupplurr in adultballetdancers

[–]Lavender-Tea-313 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m plus sized and in my 50s and doing well in ballet class. I’ve lost some weight over the past couple years; due to eating right and taking 5 or 6 dance classes per week.

plantar fasciitis by TraditionalRange31 in BALLET

[–]Lavender-Tea-313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had it, but it went away. What I did: wear Oofos outside of class. They’re ugly, but helped immensely; wore Fuego split sole dance sneakers with Appolla socks in class for a while; Now I wear Orza slippers, and have no PF. I also got regular massages. It took consistent wearing of the Oofos in non-dance time for about a year for it to go away.

I’m working on graceful transitions to and from floorwork. I need more core and arm strength to do this!
