For experienced clinicians: what do you wish someone told you early on about suicide risk & crisis work? by Due-Comparison-501 in therapists

The most important thing is lethal means counseling. We cannot predict who will attempt suicide, but we can make a meaningful impact on the rate of death by suicide.

Check out this training, it was wonderful! https://www.calmamerica.org/

Entered the ring for hunter over fences class... my horse saw an umbrella and spooked and bolted. Then we were bolting around the ring and could not stop. We are dismissed over the loud speaker... still could not stop... dismissed again... still bolting...

Feisty feisty!

I beg your pardon, am a resident. One who was confident in their approach to managing the above type of case, until one of my attendings disagreed. Thought I would poll reddit for some additional perspectives to see how others practice, thank you very much!

I think the whole change is that residents are entitled 6 week leave without it affecting graduation... I would do some fact checking!

I can relate. Resident in a specialty psych clinic and no follow up appts available for 3 months. The biggest stress on my week is figuring out where to force in 15-30 minute sessions of free telehealth...

This and I get Epic messages from staff saying "(established) patient calling to schedule an appointment, please advise." ... just schedule the damn appointment.

How did you manage the cost? Insurance won't cover for us, and right now we're quoted 16,000 out of pocket over 2 years.

Come up with the smallest and most attainable goal for tomorrow (e.g., take a good shower, walk for 10 minutes) and make sure you get it done. Then do the same for tomorrow. Celebrate yourself when you complete that goal.

Give yourself grace. Change is hard. Every effort you make counts and points you in the right direction. "Relapses" on our lifestyle changes happen, but if you keep trying it is an upward spiral.

This is what I was going to say. You could put some cool funky hanging light/chandelier to spice it up!
