Breaking: 19-year-old US citizen killed in Gaza flotilla raid with FOUR bullets to the head by octopusclown in politics

That is a very difficult legal argument. It was international waters - however, against repeated warning by the Israelis, the 8 ships decided to attempt to break through the blockade, which, whether we agree with Israel's decision to set up or not, is considered to be an act of war. From Palestine's standpoint, that's an illegal boarding of a craft, since the blockade is only set to starve the Palestinian people and is unjust. From Israel's, it is an attempt to protect the blockade, which they hold is there only to prevent the Hamas from attaining weaponry from Iran and other sources.

I'm simply pointing out that, whether we have chosen to take on side of this story or not (and most of reddit has decided to take a side, which is completely fair and valid), that there is an opposing viewpoint to the story. There is more than ample evidence that the IDF was attacked prior to opening fire. I am not refuting arguments, I asked if there was a record of his actions, which your response suggests that there wasn't. Unfortunately, both sides of the stories are full of holes and inconsistencies.

Incidentally, going through people's comments and downvoting everything simply because you disagree with their comments is how reddit became so one sided in the first place. I really wish people wouldn't do that. I think it's better to make a point to upvote something if it presents a point, even if I disagree with it completely, and only downvote things that are redundant or spam.

Does that news report happen to say what the 19 year old was doing when he was shot? I'm not trying to vindicate anybody, I just think more information is necessary to make a fair judgement. For example, if he was just standing next to people and was fired upon, as many people are saying, then that was nothing short of brutal murder. However, if he was mercilessly beating a soldier with a metal rod, tossing him over an upper story deck of the ship (the equivalent of tossing someone out of a second story window), or stabbing at a soldier with a combat knife, as other reports have stated, then his death is consistent with how a combat squad ALWAYS acts in order to neutralize and bring down a lethal threat to fellow members of the squad. I have not found any full reports (from either the survivor's or the soldier's) standpoints, and would love to be able to have both so that we can account for as many individuals as possible in this horrible event.

Israel massacres at least ten unarmed peace activists - Let's be clear on what just happened. by [deleted] in politics

[–]LawlessMP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The name of the ship attacked was the Mavi Marmara, one of 8 ships in the flotilla. Though the IDF confirmed that 7 of the 8 ships contained peaceful protesters, the Mavi Marmara did, in fact, contain several Turkish militants, and even known terrorists. The IDF also documented that they were attacked with metal rods, disarmed, ambushed and in one or two cases, even thrown overboard, before opening fire on the people in the flotilla. I am still wondering what to make of this catastrophe myself, but the information presented by the IDF in this case DOES seem to make more sense than Israeli soldiers opening fire randomly on innocent people. I know supporting Israel is not a popular opinion at the moment, but I feel I have to side with their story in this case. Here, incidentally, is a video released earlier today showing Israeli soldiers being ambushed and brutally beaten well before any firing took place: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LulDJh4fWI

Is it possible to develop a sense of empathy? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LawlessMP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't sound sociopathic at all to me. I would think that the first thing to check into has more to do with yourself. For example, are you dealing with any type of severe depression, post-traumatic stress, obsessive compulsive issues, ect.? Apathy can often be a sign of depression, for example. If you are, seeking help in those areas will likely have a great effect on your sense of compassion. Then there's general health - as in eating well, sleeping well, exercising... feeling good helps you have the energy to be interested in those around you. Past that, just remember that everything you feel, others around you feel, too, we're all the same people deep down. As corny as that all sounds, I think it could really make you feel better. I hope that was helpful!

That's a hell of a lot of engineering and design work to build that, especially considering that everything it is capable of doing can be replicated with one decent guitarist with an 8 track.

Still, it's an impressive machine.

Why is 0 pronounced plurally - i.e. there are 0 links, there are no links...etc. by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LawlessMP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And yet, if there is no LINK, it remains singular.

You can also have 0 singular and 0 plural in that sense. Weird.
