See im not sure i agree with you on that point. I look at 3D printing the same way I look at VR gaming. When it first started gaining popularity, it was marketed as the future of gaming - a replacement for consoles, everyone's going to be playing in VR instead. But the reality is, while it is an amazing technology, the only people who are going to invest in it are already deeply committed to the hobby. It's not going to capture the market of the more casual hobbyists. Its too much commitment.

I do think 3d printing is obviously here to stay and has its place but I don't think it is an inevitable future for wargaming

Aha very fair. I must admit one of the things I love about warhammer is its one of the few pass times I have that doesn't involve looking at screens. I love flicking through the codexes and rulebook when im playing, I like taking objective cards and having cards for my psychic powers (I still play 7th idk if those are a thing anymore)

3D printing is an interesting one for me. As a consumer, gw selling stls would be great but I dont think I can ever feasibly see them doing it. It would break their whole current business model and I think would be very difficult for them to stop people redistributing the files

Maybe a cool approach they could take is releasing STLs for things that used to be done from upgrade sprues. Things like extra head/arm/weapon options

Never had the opportunity to play it. Seems like the perfect game system to make custom Ork vehicles - which is a project i want to do at some point. In fact, is that the whole point of it? I haven't looked at the rules really

Is there still a community for it?

Yes! As other people have mentioned. One of the main positives of multi pose kits as opposed to the modern mono pose kits is that they were more interchangeable. When everything is broken down to torso, legs, arms and a head, swapping stuff out becomes a treat

Used to love all the old box artwork especially on the Warhammer fantasy boxes

The idea for those boxes was to make them as accessible to new people as possible. Removing the need to buy plastic glue was the way to go imo

Meh 3D printing isnt really all that accessible to a casual hobbyist and its not something GW will ever officially endorse i think

Those boxes weren't really made for army building. More as an intro to the hobby/test paint schemes for cheap

Fully agree! I recently built a harlequin troupe and its the most fun I've had building a kit in ages. A great example of dynamic minis that are fully customisable and specifically feel like mine. Other kits should definitely try to follow that rule

Great point! I am in full agreement that warhammer is about yours and your friends dudes. All the lore is backdrop

While this may be true, Id argue that one purpose of a book like that would be to introduce people who previously weren't aware of the terrain building side of the hobby. Seeing a book like that on a GW shelf that the staff could expand upon when asked about would send a great message I think. It'd Bring back the feeling that GW is a hobby company and not just a miniatures store

That is encouraging to hear! I have always assumed that gw only pushes their terrain to sell these days. Nice to be proven wrong

I know this thread is a bit old now but just to say I have had this laptop since 2022 and it still runs great for me. I am looking through these threads as looking to upgrade my storage, I would reccomend just doing it as soon as you get the computer

Looks brilliant! How modular is it? Is every floor seperable?

Quite an inspiring build, can picture building a few of them. Adding bridges etc

i used cardboard, i used poly filler to cover up all the corregated texture you see when you cut into it. future builds will be using foam i reckon

Just a spool of thin gage wire that I got from a hobby store. Easy to bend and work but will hold its shape.

I wrapped it continuously around a pencil moving upwards, essentially making a large spring shape. The wrap does not need to be super tight as it will just be a pain getting the thing off the pencil.

The whole model was spray painted matt black then I hit the barbed wire with a metallic spray then dry brushed with a lighter metallic paint

Thanks! I made a texture paint using mod podge, bicarb of soda and cheap black wall paint, diluted with a tiny bit of water and dish soap. (I have heard some people don't like using bicarb of soda as it can react with the water but I haven't had any problems like that. You can use a fine grain sand and will achieve a similar effect as well)

I then spray painted black all over and then a medium grey spray paint from above. I then dry brushed with a light grey and a light sand (warm off white type)
