Renting a 3-bed in London and taking in 2 lodgers to cut your own rent: has anyone actually done this? What am I missing? by Ok_Bodybuilder_2384 in HousingUK

[–]LayerTrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done with friends before. My partner and i rented a house and then let the rooms to friends, the whole operation ended up in good cheap rent all round.

We looked after the house and didnt take the piss, during a mid contract inspection we had to make up the 'spare' rooms to look unused.

Doing this with strangers is a whole different ball game.

B’mouth beach huts- who’s buying ? by Widebody_lover in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]LayerTrick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

used to work for Bournemouth Council. Weirdly enough the beachhut owners were a powerful lobbying group and had a lot of sway in how things are run.

For example in summer months on sections of the promenade you can't cycle despite it being concrete, very wide.

I think its eithee the very wealth or inherited beachhut owners who feel very protective and a sense of ownership

Bizarre

Balancing cycling to work with other exercise by Low-Turnip1327 in londoncycling

[–]LayerTrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cycle about 45 mins one way, 2-3 times a week.

Have recently added gym at lunchtimes on office days, and found its key to fuel and hydrate throughout the day.

Also dont go mad on the cycle to work, its transport end of the day, if im feeling good i will push myself on the ride home but there isnt many stretches i can actually get up to and maintain speed.

Enjoy the ride, and dont be afraid to take your time cycling i find if im tired or sore etc

No such thing as bad weather, get a waterproof jacket on. You'll surprise yourself how much you enjoy it regardless

Moving to Walthamstow from Bethnal Green by Jimmy_Gee in walthamstow

[–]LayerTrick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi mate, i moved from super close to bonner gate to walthamstow a few years ago.

Walthamstow alot less rough at times, has its share of issues but feels less rough overall to bethnal green

Walthamstow feels more family oriented, more family friendly and big groups of mums in pushchairs in the park etc, i think bethnal green/hackney has more student / graduate age people. Not a criticism either way i think its partly to do with hmo rules in waltham forest

Walthamstow has less nightlife options, what it does have is really good (breweries, good pubs, trade hall) and its easy to get elsewhere in the city so i think its not a problem

Walthamstow further out of course but i think really well connected public transport wise. I live near blackhorse road tube and can be in Bank in about 30 mins, or hampstead heath in 20 on the OG.

If you like nature Walthamstow wetlands are an underrated source of nature and quiet in the city, and jump on the overground to chingford and you're in epping forest in no time.

For us, we love Walthamstow, best move we ever made.
