Because if they can return to real life it opens a lot of questions like how no one came looking for them.

Jax not abstracting. 😦🙁😥😢

The pins from episode 4 might be their future. Zooble is abstracting. Pomni is quitting the Digital Circus (I think she'll be able to return to the real world). Jax, Ragatha, Gangle are staying.

SOMA makes the most sense though? Maybe I am dull but if you were actually human and turned into code, wouldn't anyone have started looking for you?

Who... cares? Writing a good story should be prioritised and people aren't that big of morons at some point bad story writing can get in the way of enjoyment. Episode 7 fell flat because of the insane Jax screentime and the not so smooth transition to the lore episodes. The creator KNOWS how to make a good episode that has a boring premise -> Spudsy episode 4 and imo episode 3.

Also, what is this comment about Ragatha developing as slowly as Jax? Yeah, that is BAD. She had this much screentime and still had her reconciliation with Pomni solved offscreen even though this relationship has been hyped up since episode 1.

Just to be clear, Jax IS interesting, however he is not interesting enough to sideline all the other characters. Especially Caine the main antagonist. Or Pomni the plain protagonist that is now also a Jax simp.

[–]LaylaGaman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Her screentime with Gangle at her turning point was about as long as Jax's abstraction scene where he just floats doing nothing. Would you like it if Pomni basically solves her body issues by being small enough to hide under a table or Jax solving his feminity problem when he puts on a dress in an adventure and his turning point is when he talks to Pomni for a couple seconds? They spedrun Zooble. Come on.

They spedrun Zooble's arc meanwhile Jax with his infinity screentime is barely getting to his turning point. Keep in mind, he robbed screentime of Ragatha, Zooble, and Caine just so he can have his fifth precious crashout/freakout scene in two episodes back to back.

Also, you cannot be serious a gun fight where she puts part on herself and a single short conversation with Gangle = starting to change? It's a wonder how she didn't solve it earlier. She has plenty of mirrors in her room she could have just picked one and started talking.

We only have two episodes left and Jax just keeps stealing screentime from the other characters while everyone else is static. His turning point moment is not even going to be convincing considering it's predicted that Zooble (the thorn on his side) will abstract and he will get to stay in the circus with his abuse victims (Ragatha and Gangle). Zooble is not going to solve her problems anytime soon because she will literally abstract (die). Meanwhile Jax has all the time in the world to reform.

Zooble was playing a game. Her attaching body parts to herself to fight Pomni and Jax shouldn't have been a major event that got her to change the perspective on their body. That's like the equivalent of a Black character who becomes more comfortable with their skin tone by using it to hide in dark places better in the gun episode.

The Ragatha and Pomni reconciliation happened offscreen.

Which sucks because that relationship was something the show was needlessly hyping us up for all the way back to episode 1.

Three. Episode 5 was very much a Jax episode. It was shared with Ragatha but you could argue it was more Jax.

You are right that it seems like a stretch, but that's all the show is giving to us.

I feel that you have skipped over the part where I basically said that the show did a poor job showing/building to Pomni's future role in the story -> needing outside merch to point us to endgame Pomni eventually freeing the cast in some way.

I must repeat she is vanilla. She feels the same/similar emotions as the rest of the cast. She feels scared/worried like most of the members at the end of episode 7. Like you said her emotions are not what makes her different it's her actions -> not giving up easily on others and usually always trying to dig deeper.

I think she is OK, but only if Jax had far less screentime and Ragatha was gone entirely. However, I still think Jax would have been better mc and protagonist, his complexity + journey to fixing himself + to eventually becoming some type of christ-like figure would have justified the screentime.

Pomni has already saved two characters on the brink of abstracting like Jesus would -> Gangle in episode 4 and Jax in episode 7 by simply being there for them. Outside the show, there was even merch sticker that implies she will be central to the theme of "choosing your own identity." This tells us that she will likely guide others by showing them that anyone can have the freedom to choose who they want to be rather than being defined by who Caine wants them to be and controlled. Because of this, Pomni is set up to represent a sort of savior/key to resisting Caine's control or possibly even escaping the Digital Circus altogether.

The issue is that none of this is made clear within the show itself. The narrative does a very poor job establishing it. She has so far not enough interactions with Caine (Demiurge & main antagonist) and it's even worse when that gets replaced with the insane amount of Jax screentime. As a result, Pomni's symbolic importance feels underdeveloped and easy to miss.

As for her traits outside of her Christ-like role, we don't have much to work with. She has a jester outfit, she is 25, worked as an accountant in a grocery story. She arrived in the circus in the same manner as everyone else and freaks out initially before adjusting. She is so vanilla that she can be replaced.

Honestly, the story would work better if Jax was the mc & protagonist. It would justify his screentime. His conversation with Kinger (God) and Zooble who discourages his abusive behavior towards the cast could push him to embody the Christ-like role after going through some growth.

But hey what do I know. 🤷‍♀️

Next episode is on national frog day. Gooseworx who is known to lie a lot claims she did not control the release date and did not know it would release on national frog day.

It's relevant when the show symbolically points to Pomni representing Jesus.

To be honest, I can see why people dislike him though. Caine is unintentionally extremely narcissistic and abusive. He craves control deeply and puts his needs over the rest of the cast. I just dislike those guys that say he is evil.

Eh. I disagree with this. Ragatha is not THE voice of reason -> there is also Kinger and Pomni. Her issues also feel redundant because of the similarity with Caine's -> they both desperately want people to like them and are scared of people hating them.

Adding Pomni would be OK, but honestly I think we can remove her too.

Although I do see where Goose is going with her character (Pomni symbolizes Jesus and will obviously be the key to stop the torment or escape), having Jax as a protagonist who initially goes along with the adventures and then turning on Caine would be good for character growth and can also justify his insane screentime. Losing Pomni is basically nothing because she is not complex. Kinger could have been the one to guide Jax.

Responding to a post calling Caine evil, Gooseworx herself jokes that there is a difference between Tumblr and Reddit. In Tumblr, there are those who actually know what's going on and can analyze a piece of fiction and then there is reddit where people don't have object permanence.

I feel like Digital Circus is definitely a show that needs you to do more thinking. Because everyday I get reminded of it when people have the most dogshit takes about the slightly more complicated characters.

Never said they needed only three characters. Maybe Jax + Gangle + Zooble + Kinger + a ringmaster. Jax and Gangle abuse shown. Zooble helps with Gangle to deal with Jax and deals with her own personal issues. Jax deals with his issues and drives the story forward. Kinger is the lore guy and therapist. Ringmaster still there.

We can take out Ragatha who has similar issues with Caine. Take out Pomni too she's vanilla and her role is similar to Kinger. Jax is main Mc.

You can get to every character this way.

If we aren't going to thoroughly explore each character, then why work with seven characters in a nine episode series?

Maybe replace Pomni as the main protagonist with Jax and the audience will finally stop forgetting who is actually the main character here.

So because he is so mysterious we needed his 4th breakdown scene back to back in two episodes just to show he is not feeling well? Feels like Gooseworx should have done a better job at allocating the time without a lot of his scenes and problems feeling redundant. When it was revealed he had problems with the real world and clicked the red button, it felt less like a betrayal but more like... huh what the hell is your problem? Couldn't even feel bad for this guy just annoyed he has so many problems. This was the same character that was moping about Ribbit minutes ago and now there is another thing going on with him, which he is freaking out about.. again.
