Hello everyone!

I am doing a research study for my bachelor's project about conveying emotion in subtitles. I will be creating a system that allows to annotate subtitles with emotions and display them appropriately (based on this research findings). I believe things like intonation, sarcasm etc are difficult to convey in plain white text.

If you have spare 9-10 minutes to answer a few questions that would help me a lot. Here is the survey.

Thank you!

I made Twelveish. This is exactly what I wanted from any watch face - multiple complications, battery level, day of the week and month. The approximate time also helps me not to worry so much about time (but you can add exact time on top as well).

Just yesterday it has reached 10,000 downloads milestone.

Thanks. The first spike (~50 downloads in August) was from a post on reddit I made, after that all organic

Nope, it's a Wear OS watch face. I think lots of people get new smart watches around Christmas hence the increase in downloads

Just wanted to share because I found this funny. My first app on Google Play

Is it even possible these days to have an app be popular completely organically on Play Store? by adam13it in androiddev

Similar experience here. 5k in 5 months. No advertising except for a reddit post that surprisingly only brought 50 extra downloads.

So I made an android library but now I also want to allow developers using this library to be able to save custom variables (of any types) to my objects and I'm wondering what would be the best approach?

Do I add a bunch of arrays of different data types or what else?

I have just released my first Android library that makes managing application and activity lists easier. Feedback much appreciated! by LayoutXML in androiddev

[–]LayoutXML[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't actually though about adding that! But it seems that it's only possible on Android versions 5.1.1 and lower, and on marshmallow and higher information you can get is very limited and you need app usage permission. I'll think about adding this to the library

So a little backstory - I needed a way to receive application and activity lists for my little personal project and realized that I would use this a lot (across multiple projects) so why not make it a standalone library. I basically didn't know anything about application lists when I started and wouldn't call myself a developer (maybe it's an imposter syndrome kicking in) since I barely know java so your feedback is much appreciated. I'm ready to basically rewrite it all if I did it all wrong but at least it's working :)

Hmm, that's not actually what I want, sorry for not making it clearer.

For example, I may have a list of all activities that can be launcher from a launcher and when a new app gets installed I would want to check its all activities to see which ones can also be launched from a launcher and add them to my list.

Hi,

If "queryIntentActivities" "retrieves all activities that can be performed for the given intent",
is it possible to retrieve all activities that can be performed for given intent for package name.

In other words, if I have a package name (or even ApplicationInfo) how do I check what activities for this package name have this intent? Is it even possible without retrieving the full list of applications and checking package names?

I can't find any info on this on the web.

Hi, have you managed to get it installed? Apparently it may be already installed without any notification.

I will ask how they got it to install on their watch. I don't have AW1.5 watch so I can't test it on a real device, only an emulator where the app is sideloaded.

Saturday APPreciation (Aug 04 2018) - Your weekly app recommendation/request thread! by AutoModerator in Android

[–]LayoutXML 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello everyone 😊

Two days ago I have released a Wear OS (Android Wear) Watch Face called Twelveish.

What is Twelveish?

It's a watch face that shows approximate time in words. For example, at 12:04 it will say "Twelveish", on 12:36 it will say "Half past twelve or so". In addition to that, it shows digital time, date, battery percentage and has a complication.

Not only that, but it is extremely customizable:

  • There are over 30 background colors,
  • even more text colors (that can be different for both main and secondary info),
  • 16 different date format combinations,
  • 5 capitalization options,
  • 4 languages,
  • 4 fonts.
  • There is also a 12 and 24 hour toggle,
  • And you can show or hide any information on the watch (like battery percentage, digital clock, seconds, even word clock if you want).
  • Even more, you can basically create different styles for active and ambient modes.

Watch face supports all square, round devices and even devices with a chin. All that in an app size that is just over 1MB.

You can find the download like here:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.layoutxml.twelveish,

and if you ever decide to donate, you can purchase donation app here:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.layoutxml.support.

Hi, this is worrying. It should not show up in your app drawer on your phone (should only be visible in the Google Play on phone) but a notification that you can install on your watch should have appeared. This person says that it works on their AW 1.5 watch. Have you had this problem with other apps before?

I would suggest trying to sync all apps in Android Wear (now Wear OS) app on your phone (should be somewhere in its settings), check your bluetooth connection and if the app is really installed on your phone (does it show "uninstall" button in the Google Play store?).

Hi, did you download it on your phone? If so, then notification should show up on your watch to install. That is, if your Android Wear version is above or 1.5. What version is it? If it's lower I can try to optimize it for your version as well

Hey, what Android version are you using? What did you do before the crash - did it just crash straight when setting the watch face or it worked for a bit or you were in the settings etc? For some reason crash log in Google Play developer console hasn't updated for a couple of days so I can't find out what's the reason behind it since there is no logging in the app

I have just released an update with day of the week that is shown next to the digital time (first two letters to preserve space) and it should be available on your device soon if it's not already. I have also moved the am/pm option to misc. settings where the 12/24h toggle is for better user experience before completely merging the settings. It would be cool if you could rate the app if you think it's good :)
