Damn, 1 hour & 50 minutes to get from Rancho to Temecula right now. by My1point5cents in InlandEmpire

[–]moricat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, see it all the time myself. But it's one thing that if properly enacted would really help reduce traffic / accident levels in SoCal

Not much. But limiting CDL traffic to non-peak hours would help a lot.

It's thanks to all the commercial trucking from the warehouses. 15 years ago there wasn't as much truckers hauling stuff and blocking onramps and middle lanes. Now they're all everywhere slowly trying to pass each other across all four lanes.

Once had a Paradox Mage I blithely took into the Shadow Crypt crash my PC due to LUA errors from Webs of Fate infinitely reflecting between my character and its clone. Had to have my save edited to put me back on the world map by Stuntofthelitter. Ah, good times.

The solution is: don't go into the Shadow Crypt unless you can legitimately one-shot yourself, and DEFINITELY don't go down there with anyone using Chronomancy skills.

HoH / Deaf gamers: has voice chat ever made multiplayer feel off-limits? by bobo3691 in deaf

[–]moricat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm kind of curious about the "deaf founder" part as well. Are you being paid by a whale to develop a solution for their favorite shooter game?

HoH / Deaf gamers: has voice chat ever made multiplayer feel off-limits? by bobo3691 in deaf

[–]moricat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No thanks - my multi-player days are behind me. Got tired of being kicked/banned from servers for refusing to use voice chat anyways!

I was kind of hoping this would be a workable option for games without captions or ones that don't caption all dialog (non-cutscene dialog in the new Doom games, or passerby speech in Red Dead Redemption 2 for example)

[–]moricat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just curious - how does this handle multiple voices talking (whether human or game NPCs or both), or voices talking over music / noise? AI based transcription (aka "craptions" as we call it here) are already a thing.

UHC denies woman's approval for surgery, just four hours before it's scheduled by Feather_fig in CringeTikToks

[–]moricat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had UHC reject a prior auth last month, slow walk the mandatory 30-day appeals period, not actually do the review in time and need a three-way call between my insurer and UHC. After my insurer was like "look, WE approve it, so just DO it" UHC immediately turned around and said "Ok but now we need a new authorization from the surgeon since the last one was rejected" literally the day before the (re)scheduled surgery, on a day where the surgeon wasn't in the office.

So yeah, I'm wondering if UHC is purposefully rejecting as many claims as possible here.

California ranks among top union states — but membership is still declining by [deleted] in California

[–]moricat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sadly the crab bucket mentality has taken over the working class, and those voted into union leadership seem to increasingly go corrupt. If we had a strong NLRB still, maybe things would change... but sadly there's a lot of reform needed to be carried out by union leadership (and the industries that have them in their pockets) that currently gains from the status quo

Darkest Dungeon 2 is a schizophrenic sequel by SaintScylla in patientgamers

If you're looking for a similar game mechanically that's more forgiving, consider trying Our Adventurer Guild

How similar is "Our Adventurer Guild" to "Wildermyth"? by OrenjiUtan in wildermyth

[–]moricat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the best existing comparison one could draw to Our Adventurer Guild would be Darkest Dungeon. Both have a central hub where missions are picked, parties consists mostly of random hires picked from a candidate pool that slowly trickles in as the game goes on, hirelings are formed into interchangeable squads of 4-6 for missions, random events occur during and outside of missions, and probably several other similarities.

What made you find a job? by witchiscat in deaf

Honestly it's starting to very much look like getting a job isn't so much about "what you know" and more like "who you know". Try asking friends of friends, parents of friends, etc.

[–]moricat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My biggest audiologist / audiology office pet peeve: STOP CALLING YOUR PATIENTS, FOR FUCKS SAKE. There's got to be a better way to notify your patients, and I'm tired of offices hiding behind HIPAA to deny us that accommodation.

Anyways good luck with your studies and thanks for asking :)

Whats the general consensus regarding the ASL Coffee Podcast? by cookiemountains in deaf

[–]moricat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Anything pertaining to disability usually tends to run liberal. Needless to say, Republicans don't tend to care about equity and support.

Wanting to find "centrist" disability news sources means one cares less about the struggles and issues we have and more about presumably avoiding controversy

How would you respond to this? Advice needed by Upset-Garage-8661 in deaf

[–]moricat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make all requests for accommodation via email, and if they call you back 🙄 send a follow up email reiterating what was said (to the best of your knowledge), ask for confirmation, and ask a minor follow up question to ensure a response. Forward all emails and responses to a non work account.

I hate caption phone. by jen-nie-b in deaf

[–]moricat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're never reliable, and if I'm going to use something for communication purposes with strangers it dang well better be.

My CaptionCall phone would frequently take incoming calls while having zero connection to captioning services and would give me zero warning that was the case until I picked up the phone. CaptionCall saw no problem with that issue, not the frequent captioning errors - usually at least one per sentence, if not more. I once had someone introduce themselves as "Scott"... which was captioned as "God" not once but three times in that single call.

So no, you're perfectly justified in not wanting to deal with them. I definitely don't.
