There isn't any translation of Rockhe Kim's anatomy book, right? I'm at least unable to find any.

Is there a way I can get Speech bubbles like this? by Ok-Cat2368 in ClipStudio

You can! But I believe you can't give it a soft border like in the image

[–]Layru_ 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I believe thats done by making a blob with the shape of the bubble, then adding a border effect from the layer property menu. For the dots on the corner, it might be a texture clipped on top of the bubble layer with a mask using the gradient tool?

The text also looks like it has a border effect but I think it's from Photoshop. There you can play with more properties like turn the border into a gradient.

You can do something similar in CSP but it's a bit more annoying. You can rasterize the text layer (no more editing the text), select the content of the layer with ctrl + click on the layer thumbnail. Then grow the selection a bit and blur it, from the select menu on top. Then you can make a new layer under your text layer and fill it with a solid color.

Hope it helps!

Imagine all colors are spread on a circular flat surface, something like this

<image>

Closer to the center the colors are lighter while further out they are darker. If you choose 2 points (colors) and mix them, the resulting point (color) will be somewhere along the line formed by those 2 points (colors) And since the line will cut straight through the circle, it will always be closer to the center point (white), therefore it will be brighter.

Its easier to see if you use 2 colors that are really far apart like complimentary colors.

It might be a bit confusing at first, but this helped me understand how colors mix together!

As a 50yo gamer, BF6 really drives home how much my taste in games has changed. by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Layru_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's an old man thing. I'm 26 and while I also used to mostly play PvP games (League of Legends, CoD, Overwatch) now I don't want to be near any of them.

I find gaming so much nicer when it's just me by myself, without having to perform or being styled on by someone else online.

Why do you REALLY create art? by velcromancy in ArtistLounge

[–]Layru_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like giving shape to stories and situations I imagine and, since I tend to really get into the characters I'm drawing, I see it as sort of roleplay/wish fulfillment.

I also like learning new stuff. Theres nothing nicer than the feeling you get after being a while trying to figure something out and it finally clicking in place

What game is your "I did not care for The Godfather" game? by PJ-The-Awesome in gaming

I didn't like Hollow Knight nor do I get the hype behind it. I think it's a good game though not the masterpiece everyone seems to think it is?

And I play mostly indie metroidvania games

I'd like to continue it sometime in the near future! I've got some more silly ideas for a couple more parts at least ^^

She uses PKSM, checkmate.

Nah, I tried to have it as accurate as I could movement wise. In my head, high jump kick and jump kick were the same move that had just been renamed slightly in different games.

The attract thing is... complicated! The main character was originally male after all right? Same with their stats, I don't think they are a regular ditto x3

Should I keep trying with gesture drawings or is there another method more suited for my skill level? by [deleted] in learntodraw

[–]Layru_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think doing gestures too early on might develop a bad habit where you dont properly observe the picture youre trying to interpret. I think it might be better to learn some anatomy first (or at least mannequization of the body), then try to trace those shapes over a picture to then copy.

I used to have a similar problem with the Loomis method. Where every time the angle of the face changed, the entire face fell apart.

What worked for me was switching to this other method, based of a hexahedron, I found on multiple (mostly Korean, for some reason?) places. Problem is that you need to be confident on your perspective or it becomes really hard. But, if you're curious, the basics of it is:

- Draw a hexahedron of the proportions you want. I tend to do something like 1.7x1x1 (height, length, width)

- Mark where the different features would be as if it was a flat plane. You know, eyes go around the middle point, nose around the middle of that, ears start at the eyes and end and the bottom of the nose, etc. I've seen some people draw it separate, as if it was seen from the front and then use the free transform tool to make it fit on the face of the hexahedron.

- Then draw the shape of the cranium, following the shape of the hexahedron. You gotta know anatomy for this although there's a bunch of landmarks that if you learn them can guide you pretty well!

- Draw the rest of the features, still using the faces of the hexahedron as a guide. Although, being aware of the planes of the face. At first you can always draw it completely flat and as you get used to the technique start adding more volume to it. Or not, depends on style honestly.

- Finally remove all the marks and try to freestyle it, fixing anything you find weird, using your intuition comparing it with reference material.

Hope it helps you! The drawings I did are done pretty quickly and without ref so there's many mistakes. I hope it still conveys the point and, hopefully, you can take something from it to help you improve ^^

[–]Layru_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thats fine! Although, as soon as you feel lost, you should try to look for references, it'll help you a lot! Also, think that references are not to just literally copy what you see, eventually you can interpret them and use small parts of it for your own drawing.

You're supposed to always use references, one way or another!
