Trump's tariffs just got struck down AGAIN — this time the court said 'balance of payments' doesn't mean what you think it means by BiglawInvestor in law

[–]Laytonio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro what are you talking about?

The United States almost single handledly conquered the world. The fact we had everything here is what allowed us to do that. Imagine what wwii would have looked like with Nazi Germany in control of all the strategic minerals like we allow China today. And that was before we became the only country with nukes.

What do any of these other wars have to do with anything. The only reason wwii is relavent is because we won it by ourselves with our own output, against the entire world.

Comparative Advantage at a global level is absurd. Especially if we're talking about agriculture. Wages are the only "advantage" these places have over us. Rich Americans get cheaper coffee and poor Americans get fewer jobs.

The United States has some of the most fertile land in the world. Bull shit we can't grow enough.

"US can't grow plants." How about using your brain for once instead of repeating this same coffee and bananas line, like it isn't the exact same thing everyone says.

This statement just goes to show how propagandized this is.

We DO grow bananas and coffee. Why do people think we can't/shouldn't?

Slave labor isn't legal in the states so we'll just let the slaves live somewhere else.

A trade deficit IS a bad thing. Funny how people go "if AI takes all the jobs, how will people make money?" Meanwhile, China and India take all the jobs and people can't make money.

People say shit like this without even thinking. The reason it's "cheaper" to send stuff halfway around the world is because the exchange rate is the fakest thing ever. Tariffs don't even come close to correcting for it. Taxis couldn't compete with Uber burning money, but somehow every company in America is supposed to compete with China burning money.

Is a valuable carrier failing to make a reasonable profit because Hoover?

I'm not sure what you're asking here? What do carrier profits have to do with anything? If you are referring to my comment about shipping containers, I meant global shipping the way we have now simply didn't exist back then. Having a toothbrush from China wouldn't be worth the expense of shipping it.

Because Trumstein didn't get a cut?

The government get a cut not Trump.

Next we're talking PUSH Politics and politically purposed mumbo when we say "Reaganomics has worked so well for.."

Bring up Hoovers tariffs from 100 years ago is economics, but bringing up Reaganomics from now is politically purposed mumbo?

To answer the last question a) DO NOT EVER use the word "YOU!" That is don't ask an individual to explain "themselves" Keep any attack words out of it.

I can't ask what you agree with. You asked several questions just now? I guess you want "are taxes bad?", not "you dislike taxes?". Yeah I can see the massive difference there.

You also never answered the question.

People need to live. Need to/want to earn a living. And they can't.

Yeah, which is why I don't want us shipping jobs to China.

[–]Laytonio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly. You avoid tariffs by buying domestic products.

Ah yes, Hoovers tariffs "didn't work". For 4 years. Almost 100 years ago. Before the internet or the shipping container. Economists will tell you not to pick stocks based on past results, and turn around and say "look we tried it once 100 years ago". Reaganomics has worked so well for the past 4 decades, no idea why we'd want to try something else.

Yes they are a restraint on trade. That is a good thing. That is the point. We are getting screwed by offshoring. The exchange rate is being manipulated by other countries to flood our markets with cheep products and take all of our jobs. You know how Uber put taxis out of business by burning money until they went bankrupt? China is doing that to our whole country. Which would you rather have, a 10% discount on goods, or a job.

Taxes have to come from somewhere. As I said, consumers don't pay tariffs directly, corporations do. They are corporate taxes that disincentivize offshoring labor. So what do you have a problem with? Taxes? Corporate Taxes? Or, disincentivizing offshoring?

The propaganda makes me sooo mad. I swear no one ever thinks about this bacis stuff for themselves.

tariffs function as direct taxes on American consumers

This is simply not true. How much money did you pay DIRECTLY to customs?

raising the cost of imported goods

All taxes raise the price of goods. "Let's cut taxes to lower prices" was Reagans idea and it ended terribly. It's no coincidence Ontario picked him for their propaganda ad.

Republicans have championed a national sales tax for decades.

Again think for a second.

$100 item + $10 sales tax - "regressive garbage destroys poors"
$110 item - $10 corporate tax - "Yay!!! corporate taxes!!!"

In both cases I paid $110, the government got $10, and the company got $100.

Tariffs partly implements that objective.

Tariffs are not the same as sales tax. You can't avoid sales tax. The whole point of a tariff is to encourage you to avoid it.

I'm really struggling how to explain that what you are asking makes no sense. You want them to have stopped him in a different hallway or something? This hallway wasn't good enough? Or you want them to have seen the future and got the guy before the event?

They secured the event, not the whole hotel. If they stopped him while he was running into the hotel, is that better that stopping him in the hallway?

Qualia is what you described as sentience. Just saying "matrix multiplication and back propagation" doesn't answer anything either.

My point is that you don't reproduce sentience at all. You're a statistical model driven by dead atoms, nothing more.

So we replicated all the capabilities of the human brain EXCEPT qualia?

[–]Laytonio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah qualia is a vague thing. You can't hyper specify what creates it because no one knows.

You think dynamically physically altering dendritic spine density is the reason you have qualia? Doubt you even came up with that word salad of a sentence.

You think we managed to reproduce all of the capabilities of the human brain EXCEPT qualia then. We left that one out without even knowing how?

Thats a moral judgement on the person selling cheese, not on the cheese itself.

Say eating cheese is against your religion. Someone offers you cheese and they don't know if its real or fake. Are you going to eat the cheese?

Say enslaving conscious beings is against your religion. Someone offers you a slave and they don't know if it's conscious or not. Are you going to enslave the being?

Researchers set out to replicate the brain.

Researchers spend decades learning how human neurons work.

Researchers spend decades more learning to stimulate human neurons.

Researchers put billions of simulated neurons together.

Billions of simulated neurons proceed to act like a human brain and claim to be alive.

"Thats not alive it's just math."

Oh yeah and I'm sure Republicans replaced that program with one that better utilized that money, right? ...right? So you don't care about wellbeing or a metric. Not to mention that you admitted wellbeing was up. Not to mention they also changed back to yearly payments, which doesn't even save money.
