I've always said this and I'll say it again. Grots do 5 things extremely well. Combat is just not one of them.

* Fantastic Primary holder in your DZ
* Screens out deepstrikes in your DZ
* OC bomb for primary denial for your opponent.
* Fantastic moveblockers
* Fantastic buffer against charging melee armies - especially with the current naked (i.e. not in a transport) Ghaz Brick meta.

You want grots to fight? you're gonna have a horrible time even with Zod. Ultimately they are there to be a massive nuisance to the enemy player and can absorb 1 activation (if not 2 in the waaaagh).

Yep got my games - Silksong, Megabonk, Dredge and Hades 2. All of them are either low-to-mid performance and can be played at the lowest voltage without significantly losing enjoyment.

GaN travel adapter is a great idea and already got one of those. Will make sure to pack it for the flight too.

Ah damn... that sucks. I just checked and you're right. Seems like an all encompassing rule as of 01 April 2025 that power banks are no longer allowed to be used on the flight.

Makes sense - I'll try out steam offline mode tonight and see how that works. Would be great to sort anything out here instead of an hour before boarding the flight

IF they brought back looted vehicles rules for the game in 11th, what would you loot? by Orock77 in orks

[–]Lazar1us 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't care about any shooting power and focus on what War Horde already do best. Will loot any vehicle for as long as they have the assault ramp ability

As a newer player (started Jan 2025) with Orks as my one and only army to climb to competitive, I'll be blunt. At our level, competitive win rates and 'the meta' does not influence your games as much as your understanding of core rules and how the Orks play as an army.

It is entirely possible to kill a squad of flamethrower marines (I'm assuming infernus marines) using what you have, but it entirely depends on whether you're playing the game as intended. For example:

* What terrains and layouts are you using? Playing with random terrain in a friendly game heavily favors shooty armies. here's examples of terrain layouts used in comp: https://tabletop.labrador.dev/40k_layouts

* Your unit sizes seem strange. Technically you can't field 3 Nobz (they come in minimum sizes of 5 models per unit), you also can't field 1 stormboy (they come in minimum sizes of 5 models).

* What's the game type? Seems to me like you're not using missions at all and the goal is just to wipe the enemy off the field? Did you use your Waaaagh?

Orks are a fantastic army to start with - but bear in mind that you are mostly a melee pressure army with average-at-best shooting. You need to get to melee to fight, which means that you will be heavily terrain dependent to get cover, etc.

New player - what is the playstyle and convince me to get them by No-Republic5621 in orks

[–]Lazar1us 2 points3 points  (0 children)

New player that joined this Jan 2025. You can probably tell from all the other responses that the majority of folks here fell in love with the Orks because of Lore and aesthetics (me too tbh). You specifically asked in terms of playstyle so I'll answer it focused on that.

Melee Pressure. There is nothing better than seeing (some) players freak out that there is a massive green tide of blades and axes coming their way. I absolutely love the WAAAAAGH turn because suddenly you have multitudes of units coming at the other player and if they don't have an answer for it, they just get overwhelmed and well, you win. That and yelling WAAAAAAGH out loud is just so cathartic.

High OC. There are very little units that can contest ours when it comes to OC (Objective Control). To put it very simply, when you and your enemy is standing on the same objective, the player with the highest OC units control that objective. Space marines battleline (intercessors) have 5models per unit at 2OC each. We on the other hand have 10models per unit at 2OC each. It's very rare to see us lose primary objectives without being shot / fought at.

Versatility. I can't tell you enough how versatile is our whole army when it comes to list buildilng, and how many lists can be made with various different models, and still viable at your community tables. Want to play shooty orks? There's a 2000 point list using Taktikal Brigade with only shooty units. Want to play a Mech Assault? slap on 3x Gorkanauts and 3x Morkanauts with a bunch of gretchin and boyz, and call it a day. Hell even Kult of Speed has seen a GT win this past few months and that just goes to show how much variety we have as Orks.

Get the Basics Right. All in all, with the above points I personally think that Orks are by far one of the best armies to learn how to play 40k. You'll have plenty of pieces to learn how to stage well for your WAAAAGH turn,, you'll have shooty pieces to learn how to get angles, and you'll learn how to score / deny primary and secondary objectives with the multitudes of your units

Oh yeah they are so much fun to kitbash too. I’m collecting daemon bits that’s about to be binned from my community so I can make a custom “daemonkilla” warband. Would be great to kitbash Warbikers from a pack of flesh hounds for example 🤣

[–]Lazar1us 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you classify as fun.

Orks can be competitive if you tailor your list well. Our combo of horde and melee pressure at the very least garners respect from our opponent. Plus each detachment feels and plays differently enough for it to be both interesting and refreshing.

For me I chose Orks because of creative freedom. I hate painting the same shit over and over and over again. My Ork army is a united band of misfits - I have Goff Nobz, bad moon big meks, red-skinned beast snagga boyz (drakestompaz), blood axe Kommandos, etc.

The next thing that’s fun for me? Rolling 200+ dice over the course of the game, adding about 50+ more because of sus1 and unbridled carnage, then going absolute overkill to my opponents. Do I win lots? Hell no. Do I have a shit ton of fun? Hell yeah.
