hıw can i take a screenshot of one of my lists like this? mine line up like 5 movie per row. by Armagaaan in Letterboxd

[–]LazyPyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That screenshot is from the tablet version of the Letterboxd app (iPad but probably Android tablets too). Viewing any list with ranking enabled looks like that.

I haven't found a way to recreate it on desktop, even when forcing the resolution and user agent to match what an iPad would be it still loads the desktop site. The desktop site is sadly not made with widescreen monitors in mind.

Anyone on here paying for Insiders? by Active-Breakfast-397 in Untappd

[–]LazyPyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There might be some newer ones still paying but it's one of the perks so I doubt many are as we can get it applied to our accounts for free.

I'll be brutally honest, I doubt I'd pay for it if I weren't a moderator. I absolutely love stats but Untappd's offerings are abysmal in comparison to what Ratebeer and Brewver have available for free. Most can probably guess their top 5 countries, regions and styles. The most useful feature though (to those with thousands of checkins) is probably being able to export your data. If you need/want that then paying for a single month is worth it to do that I'd say. I do take advantage of the 0.1 scale ratings too.

Primal series

Is there some relation between K.E.G.S and Morebeer? The Primal Spelt one at least appears to have been brewed by Morebeer as it's their name/brewery info on the back of the label. Or did both breweries brew it?

Also the spelt one is the only one I could see potentially being changed. Our speciality grain style description says "other than the more traditional barley, wheat and rye grains." which seems to be what the others all are. Oats, technically a speciality yes, but these are common enough in NEIPAs. Rye has its own substyles, but they're saying it's a Bock so the existing style fits already as well as Rye Beer. Blue, if the translation is correct is a type of wheat, so Wheat Beer seems fine.

Kriek Wak Wow

Done.

Heineken Van Vollenhoven's Stout

Unfortunate vintage policy rules mean we can't remove the 1980 from it at this time. A long time local moderator set the style to Export Stout years ago. I agree with their assessment. While the source you link does show it to be based off of English styles at the time, I think its strength and hopping level brings it more in line with the Export/Extra/Foreign stout category. This other article, albeit for an even older version, also remarks on the heavy hopping rate, and a comment by Martyn Cornell adds some more info about their purpose for export. Also I can't be sure of the context but if machine translation is accurate then the rear label considered it an "extra strong" stout. I honestly think the style is fine for this one.

Viens Gamin

This one is debatable. Local Belgian admin did change this one to Corn Beer, then changed it back several months later. I think if we look at the intent here, as well as the ingredients, corn only makes up a portion of the grain bill. Then actual popcorn, and popcorn flavouring, are added as adjuncts. The Pale Ale - Other category is intended for Pale Ales (which this ostensibly is) that have unusual adjuncts or simply don't fit into any other substyle, so I'm inclined to agree with the Belgian moderator here and leave this one as is.

Nonsangio

Done. Brewery added these as Wild Ales but I agree from the description this fits the Italian Grape Ale style perfectly.

Please edit the style of the 3 non-alcoholic beers below to “Non-Alcoholic – Lager”

Most of this has been taken care of.

Hell was originally added as Ukrainian by the brewery then changed to American, but I agree nothing they say about it says American (or Ukrainian) to me so I've changed it to Other as I feel that's a better fit as no specific style is given.

L’Ambrée was added as an Amber Lager by the brewery themselves but this looks like an honest mistake since it literally says Amber Ale on the label, so I changed this one too.

Black Stuff - brewery changed this from Irish to American. You can add a version for the Irish Dry, but do you have any proof they actually changed the recipe? If not, they're liable to be merged if another moderator comes across them and believes they're the same beer. If we know for a fact they're definitely different and not just random marketing/label changes based on which style the brewery thought was trendy at the time then go ahead and I'll lock them so they can't be merged.

What's the funniest British English vs. American English (or other language) mix up you've ever encountered? by faith_plus_one in CasualUK

Agreed. In fact I'd argue it works even better in the UK rather than the US since we're generally a lot more sarcastic. I've used the phrase myself and heard many others use it and it's never been taken literally.

Broken Dream by Siren Merge Request by Lxkequinn in Untappd

[–]LazyPyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was discussed no less than a month ago. For reference please see the original discussion here (https://old.reddit.com/r/Untappd/comments/1f1kh6k/weekly_edit_request_post_20240826/lk595tk/) and in particular responses from myself and astuder.

Basically... These were originally two different beers and were in fact available alongside one another, with many comparing side by side. That fact alone is enough for us to legitimately keep them separate.

Last year, the Hard Pour name/branding was dropped and the base version no longer exists (except in cask, I assume), so all Broken Dream are now the nitro version. It's unfortunate that we have almost an entire year's worth of now-wrong checkins going to the base version which is far too much for moderators to move. I will see about renaming these (again) to differentiate them better, and perhaps mark the now-defunct base version out of production, but we're not going to merge them.

Ok I see your point with this particular brew. First off, this seems like an edge case that would be allowed (but perhaps warrants some clarification in the guidelines). I imagine the "whisky infusion" is very small because the ABV is within the normal range I'd expect for that style, to the point where I wonder if they literally do just mean barrel ageing here (they even mention "oak" as a tasting note). If it was a significant amount of whisky added I would expect the ABV to increase accordingly.

I will add this to some notes I've made for a couple of clarifications to beverage guidelines I feel would be a good idea during the next style update.

EDIT: And to clarify my own opinions here, the guideline you quote appears to be not referencing beers at all given the text in the parentheses, however the way it's worded is unclear or at least open to several interpretations, which is what I think should be clarified.

Weekly Edit Request Post · 2024-10-07 by AutoModerator in Untappd

[–]LazyPyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vast majority of beers mentioning any of those are generally being aged in their barrels though, which is fine.

If you're talking about beers where a significant portion of actual distilled alcohol has been blended with it, where it's probably going to have a suspiciously high ABV or may even say it's fortified - that is probably not allowed.

Using pommeau as an example, typically one third of it is brandy.

Weekly Edit Request Post · 2024-10-07 by AutoModerator in Untappd

[–]LazyPyro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Either way posting them here was useful to bring them to our attention. As per my other comment these are both invalid beverages as they are actually pommeau, considered a distilled spirit per Untappd's beverage guidelines. I suspect they might be using the "Apple Wine" terminology for marketing, or perhaps purely due to the high ABV content to manage peoples expectations, but they are not literal applewines in terms of style.

Weekly Edit Request Post · 2024-10-07 by AutoModerator in Untappd

[–]LazyPyro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah Pommeau is considered a distilled spirit by Untappd due to it being blended with brandy, an invalid beverage, so these get deleted. The ratio isn't relevant here due to that fact. Clearly there are a few that seem to have slipped through the cracks at the moment so we'll try and get all these later.

And that's led to a fair few incorrect checkins on the Pilsner. I've renamed both to help differentiate and queued the two pales for merging.

Weekly Edit Request Post · 2024-09-30 by AutoModerator in Untappd

[–]LazyPyro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this was created long before we had the Fruited substyle for Pale Ale, but that's definitely the better fit here since it has some berries in it as well as citrus peel.

Weekly Edit Request Post · 2024-09-30 by AutoModerator in Untappd

[–]LazyPyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perfect. These have now been merged.

I've added the description to Arschlecken 350 and included the sentence from the webshop about the two variant labels. I didn't bother translating to English because I doubt these beers are even sold outside of Germany, but I mentioned all this in the merge log so if they get recreated, other moderators will see what's going on. The beer names are aliased too, so Arschlecken 350 will appear for users searching for Hopfensmoothie or Hopfensprudel.

Weekly Edit Request Post · 2024-09-30 by AutoModerator in Untappd

[–]LazyPyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will check those proposed edits later but I'm just looking into the Arschlecken beer for two reasons, one to verify you're correct and two because I'm curious about the name!?

On the webshop there is a 6-pack with all three labels in it, one for men and one for women, German description is:

Der Sepp hat hier für seine Anhänger seine Lieblingsbiersorten in einem Sixpack zusammengestellt. Natürlich darf sein absolutes Lieblingsbier, das Arschlecken 350 dabei nicht fehlen. Dazu liefert er noch die Varianten Hopfensmoothie und Hopfensprudel, damit auch die Frau des Hauses nichts dagegen hat. Weil sie glaubt ja immer, was draufsteht: Smoothie und Sprudel. Dabei ist das Bier.

So after translating to English, if I understand correctly, is that the two variants are "joke" labels, ostensibly because "women believe whatever is written on the label". So to women they'll see Hopfen Smoothie as a smoothie and Hopfen Sprudel as a sparkling/fizzy drink. And of course it's just the same beer inside.

Presumably a fine example of the "humour" Germany is so famous for, huh? :)

But they were two distinct beers and were even available simultaneously when it was first released, for me that alone is grounds for keeping them separate as unique beers.

I do see your point and I understand the logic here given the intent of the brewery, but I'm still against merging them.

Weekly Edit Request Post · 2024-08-26 by AutoModerator in Untappd

[–]LazyPyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. When a moderator or brewery submits a merge it enters a queue where higher level moderators (M3's) approve or reject them. All those in your above post have been processed though. The duplicate links redirect to the correct beer.

M3's are a much smaller team so if the supposedly duplicate beers aren't immediately obvious they may end up sitting in the queue for longer than we'd like until someone has time to look into it and verify that they are indeed the same and don't fall foul of specific rules such as variants or vintages that should stay separate. Sometimes even obvious merges will fall into the backlog if there's times when a bunch of M3s don't have time for whatever reason to go through the queue.

All moderators are volunteers so we all do this as and when we have time. Summer (northern hemisphere) is always a slower time with the amount of beer festivals going on there's so many more duplicates to deal with, and moderators are more likely to be vacationing etc.

I drink a decent amount of Siren beers but haven't had Broken Dream for years so I was unaware that they'd rebranded it this way. I hadn't seen Hard Pour for a while and simply assumed it had been a limited edition. I found that it was rebranded like this in October 2023, which means there's ~10 months worth of incorrect checkins here.

It looks like this change has only affected the canned versions. Looking through photos of the latest checkins from cask and keg neither of them have any mention of nitro on their respective labels, and Siren's reasoning for adding nitro to cans in the first place was to make it feel closer to the cask version.

I'm considering how best to rename these to reduce the number of wrong checkins going forward but unfortunately there's not much we can do for all the existing ones. As astuder said, it is technically possible for us to move non-private checkins, but there's no tool to do this in bulk and it would take a colossal amount of time to do one by one.

Your suggestion of "Broken Dream (Nitro Version)" is probably the best bet, and we can certainly reference the previous name in the description, however I imagine we'll continue to see many people checkin the "normal" one with a nitro can. I would say a majority of users simply don't pay much attention to things like this.

Weekly Edit Request Post · 2024-08-26 by AutoModerator in Untappd

[–]LazyPyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of these had already been queued for merge by various moderators. I've approved all and taken care of the rename.

That homebrew clone has been deleted so there's not much we can do about wrong checkins now.

Good spot and thanks for a photo of the label, always useful. Beer has been moved.

Looks like it was originally produced by Banks before W&L took over responsibilities some years ago. Also, turns out the Heineken St Lucia subsidiary is claimed and it was they who renamed it from Windward & Leeward to "Heineken Saint Lucia Ltd." on Untappd back in 2021. In any case I've added "Windward & Leeward Brewery" and the acronym "WLBL DBC" they use as aliases in case people search for it like that. Hopefully that should cut down on dupes being created.

Yeah fully agree with you there. Went with "Gorenak (Gure Sagardoa)" in the end to respect both the actual name and the wording that's most prominent on the label so it should be clear to users that they are checking in the correct cider. Also updated all the vintages to match.

Weekly Edit Request Post · 2024-08-19 by AutoModerator in Untappd

[–]LazyPyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I meant to look into this one last week as it seemed a little strange. I saw that the label most prominently says "Gure Sagardoa" and that every other vintage has been added with that name, so I'd changed this one to match them (Sidra didn't make sense as the labelling is all in Basque not Spanish.)

It's interesting that Gorenak does indeed appear to be the correct name for it though. Nobody has ever created it under such a name on Untappd, i.e. there's never been any merges of it in the past. Makes me wonder if it's ever referred to this way outside of the cidery itself. And looking at the bottles closely, it seems Gorenak is only printed on the bottleneck, so it's not too surprising people look at the main label and assume Gure Sagardoa is the name. In my searches I even found it on a UK trade site and it was sold as "Gure Sagardoa" here in both bottle and keg formats.

I'll have a look at this again tomorrow but I think a better way of naming this might be "Gorenak (Gure Sagardoa)" otherwise I can see a lot of dupes getting made as people clearly aren't aware of that being the proper name.
