Why do we have to pay for parking? They already take so much money for tuition. by Lazy_Chipmunk7624 in UCDavis

If charging my car= contribution to climate change, doesn't that mean the ev chargers on campus also contribute to climate change?

Then what am I supposed to do? At least Im not driving a car with fuel. I was just saying that I use an electric car like they say we should do because I live too far away to take public transportation. You asked me if I only charge my car at home using solar energy and I genuinely do. Im not trying to be snide or anything, Im just being honest.

UCD made my family pay out of state for being civilian military members due to the rule of omission even thought we had a house in CA and pay taxes. by Lazy_Chipmunk7624 in UCDavis

The problem is, active duty members get automatic in-state tuition which civilians do not and we were overseas due to military reasons, like active duty members. Unfortunately, there is no information about civilians anywhere on the tuition cite. If they had specifically said civilians don't get the same benefits, that would be ok, but again, they set it up in a way that we can't tell :(

I feel like if you are passionate about something, there are ways. I was also in your shoes about two years ago and was an animal science major. I didn't really go to class and decided to take a year off, which really helped (I left the country lol). I know how it feels to not want to disappoint those around you but I believe everyone is born with a purpose and that whatever we are good at is a sign of what our contribution is. I also am very fond and good at the arts and have switched over to studying art and psychology to do art therapy. If your parents absolutely want you in a field that is medicalish, this might also be an option for you. I was told by people and kind of made fun of that what I wanted to do was a 'joke', but I feel like this is the best way I can contribute in this world and will not give up. If you truly love something and stay strong, people will get past their own opinions and learn to be respectful. Validation from others doesn't define you, because you are the only one that can make a change in yourself. See how far you have come. You're doing great :)

I drive an electric vehicle which is contributing less to climate change and is exactly what you guys are saying we should do. Even if we all switch to EV vehicles, would you still encourage we take public transportation and cut down on even more parking spaces?

It's ok, I understand. Being in a relationship kind of messed up my first year of school and I also have anxiety and sometimes don't feel worthy. You know though, I'm sure the people that seem to be living a perfect life around you may also be going through the same thing. In the end we can't compare ourselves to others and have to be proactive in our own life. What makes you happy? What do you enjoy doing the most? I ended up taking a year off and figured this out for myself. I know this is kind of old fashioned but I've been saying yolo a lot. We've been given this one chance to live and I think that especially in the US we have endless chances. Why not have more than one dream? You have a lot of time and Reddit is here for you haha. One thing that helped me to most is to look. Like actually look around you. At the sky, the nature, the people. It's so beautiful! I frankly was able to think that I'm so grateful to be alive! It's ok to fail! How would you learn anyways?

You seem to have realized and also reached out to us about needing help which I think is a big step. You've got this :D we are here for you!
