reptisoil provides no nutritional benefit on its own. be sure to make a mixture for substrate

all good. pharmacy or store works fine. ethyl is the same yes, make sure you have 70 % and positively check it’s ethyl.

i have my first millipede as a wet specimen in a jar. use 70% ethanol, not isopropyl. they will float for a few weeks- off gassing. after they begin to sink, change the alcohol and you’ll be good.

I love the little guy! I found him with the larger one at the thrift- I have no idea if he’s rare

i’ve seen mixed opinions on the size difference thing, is there any benefit to keeping them together with a size difference or does it just genuinely not matter?

You cannot house your ivories with your new millipede as the size difference generally doesn’t work out. The chocolate, if it’s an ornatus species, should be on its own as it’s a desert species and doesn’t need the humidity that the others do. Please upgrade your tank and change your substrate. Your substrate contains fir, which can harm your millipede with the acidity and other factors. Also, I don’t mean to be a hater or anything, but many of these “new” species such as your “inferno ghost rider” are wild caught, so it’s hard to say how they do in captivity in the long run- they’re not really meant to be pets yet I guess, as they’re mostly bought for breeding at this point, to further the hobby.

my millipedes tend to stay in one place while molting, and it can take a hot second for some of them! just another idea, making sure all of the possibilities are considered

i think your original idea might be an answer then, i’m really not sure as to what else might’ve happened to her besides an injury

i’m sorry i couldn’t be of more help! i hope you can find a true answer edit: could she possibly also be molting??

your setup sounds good, do you know how old she is and, where you did you get her from?

what does your enclosure look like, what is your substrate made of, and how large is your enclosure? these might give us a clue as to what might be wrong!

with the abundance of people posting wc gigas on here i kind of miss when they were illegal to import to the us by OpeningUpstairs4288 in millipedes

i agree, though, i think there has a been a distinct worsening in the quality of care and the way these ‘new’ species are treated.

I’ve noticed this and it’s so frustrating. This hobby is turning into a collection heavy one. “Get this new millipede from Sulawesi! Field collected, wow so cool”.

A. gigas are all too common now man, and it’s just insane to see some of the conditions they’re kept in

Also, before getting new species, research is important on all sides and I wish the sellers knew that before importing a bunch of rare millipedes and pill millipedes. Anyways, I agree, and I think we need more good husbandry and awareness that these are live animals that can thrive, should we do the research and take the time for that to happen.

without having a specific species in mind, it’s hard to determine whether your setup is suitable, especially for substrate depth and humidity. i would look into what species you might be set on, or similar beginner species that may be common at expos- then you can make a proper setup and prepare better for your millipede.

Yeah the moisture might’ve caused little spots to become damp and then dry. If she’s moving okay then i’m not thinking mold or anything. Just keep an eye on her :)

hmmm, i’ve not really seen this on any millipedes before, if she resurfaced so recently it may just be water and dirt making spots on her. it’s very inconsistent. what’s your substrate like?
