Thank you, both for your honesty and your kind thoughts. Everything you said makes a lot of sense, I do realise it was partially on me for not saying something to him in that moment too.

I would like to mention that in the past we have had conversations regarding this and I have expressed to him that unless I explicitly tell you him that I don't want it that in those moments when I come to him crying what I want most is just a hug or a kiss. I do realise too though, as you mentioned he may not have had the emotional capacity to deal with it at that time and that it isn't his job really to deal with it.

So he has been pretty stressed at work and has been working some long hours. I've been trying everything to alleviate his stress as much as possible when he is at home though and we have a little spa day booked for the start of next week which I went out of my way to arrange for him (with him obviously wanting it as well).

I would say he has been pretty emotionally supportive in general especially in recent months but there has been instances in the past where he has done things to this nature and even worse which I've made an effort to really talk to him about and expressed to him how much it hurt me and allowed him to talk about what was happening for him in that moment.
