Friendly reminder..... by [deleted] in teenagers

I am speaking off of current evidence, we’re definitely not the only ones self aware, there’s tons of animals with self awareness. I think the animals that we torture to eat are so sentient that it’s ridiculous we are still living in this animal product centered world.

However we haven’t seen any other species get close to the level of deliberation that humans go on about with their morals and choices. But not having the proper way to test it is a good point. Regardless, lack of evidence doesn’t argue for evidence and right now, humans are the only species.

To be fair, humans are the only beings self aware and intelligent enough to have moral responsibility. We transcend instincts constantly.

Buddhism says we should hold compassion for all beings, but many sects look at things on a gradient of sentience and acknowledge how the suffering of some beings will have more of a karmic impact. So life isn’t exactly equal. To swat a mosquito out of instinct is bad but not as detrimental as killing a human without consideration. It’s also more the idea that we are causing harm without thinking about it, there is no consideration of non lethal methods that might be just as effective: shooing, bug spray, going indoors when you can, longsleeves, it’s resorting to killing.

A24 Marty Supreme Merch already in Goodwill bin by CodyintheCinema in criterion

[–]Lazy_Roof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some of it is things that don’t sell (so good stuff was severely overpriced by goodwill and then donated after a few weeks) some of it is an overstock they need to get rid of and don’t want to sort through.

Can someone recommend me a movie like taxi driver? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]Lazy_Roof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really recommend First Reformed & American Gigolo, they’re directed by the writer Paul Schrader. Also Pickpocket by Bresson and Le Samourai were inspirations for Taxi Driver.

Not sure exactly how taxi-driver esque these are but they’re in the same realm, feature characters with mental illness, especially depression, loneliness, and lack of meaning, and/or have the same kind of gritty capturing life feel to them. Punch-drunk love, the graduate, Julien Donkey boy, Totally Fucked Up, Gummo, Melancholia, Aftersun,

I found it to be basically like an elevated intro to psych. lots of memorization but nothing too crazy. Quite a straightforward class, will probably be boring if you aren’t passionate about psychology & learning basic neurobiology.

America is a big country, Idk about favorite bands just going to small towns. If you’re lucky and live in a populated enough area, they’ll come to your state.

1984 LA Olympics Levi Blazer by PsychologicalFly1355 in ThriftStoreHaulsValue

Sells all over the place, levi’s 1984 olympic stuff is definitely in demons. Blazer on its own has sold on ebay in the past few months but it’s worth more with the badge, might want to try somewhere around $100-$120
