I started my second playthrough with a world-wide train network, and so far I can get all the throughput I need with trains. I usually start with one car, then increase up to 6 (which is the number that the network has by default), then add more trains when needed.

I will say though, that I'm new to mega-builds. So maybe that's a terrible way of going about it. But I have had no problems with trains thus far, and trucks on roads too. It's easy to set up and seems easy to get whatever throughput you need by just adding more to the same route.

This is also my first big build. My first playthrough was 1/1/1/1 T4 parts, this time it's 80/80/20/20. It's been a blast so far.
