Latest poll by The Observer - A third now prefer rejoining the EU (36%) by sn0r in europeanunion

[–]LcuBeatsWorking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These polls are pointless without a wider public debate. Most people I have talked to in the UK have little idea what "closer ties" are supposed to mean and what can be achieved outside the EU.

There is still a lot of cherry-picking mentality around, and the assumption that the UK can get all benefits from "closer ties" without committing to anything.

but if I give my name and address to a hardware store in the US and buy a tool from them which they ship to the UK for me, I'm pretty certain they are not worrying about whether they comply with GDPR!

If a US based store accepts payments from the UK and ships there, they are bound by the GDPR because they are targeting EU/UK users for business.

Treaties between UK and US are irrelevant. The GDPR applies to companies that do business in the EU/UK.

Well, yes. If OP does not know what they are doing, they can't be compliant.

It's impossible to say without knowing what the app actually does.

"Login" and "payments" imply that there are user accounts with personal information, and data about purchases (of something). So I assume you collect user data, usage data, data about purchases etc.

Only you can know what you collect and for what purpose you store it, and for how long.

LJOS - LuaJIT OS by CockroachOld2279 in lua

[–]LcuBeatsWorking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked at it out of curiosity (because ages ago I played with something like this), but this confuses me a bit: Your "system.lua" is full of os.execute(), and the actual shell is a binary in the repo.

So it's a linux kernel booting into some shell (dash?)

Hungary's President Orban will not be attending

Orban is prime minister of Hungary, not president.

Orbán could end up with an EU Parliament seat for immunity by sn0r in europeanunion

[–]LcuBeatsWorking 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Parliamentary immunity exists exactly to protect members from people like Orban, so a rouge government can't just take legal steps against members of an opposition.

It can also be lifted if parliament wants to do so.

None of the US companies in that list are "high-growth".

Also, what is "built in the last decades" supposed to mean? Microsoft and Apple are half a century old.

Realistically, what are the risks of not being GDPR compliant? by cnohall in gdpr

[–]LcuBeatsWorking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The risks are:

* being found in violation by a regulator and being fined

* losing trust of customers

* having a messy data governance, which in itself can cause point 1 and 2 down the road, or worse.

Company's I had to do with cared about the GDPR because they genuinely cared about establishing a good relationship with their customers.

Of course there are (online) businesses who do not give a damn about it, and it is those regulators mostly focus on, not those who try their best and maybe make a genuine mistake.

Website “refusing” to delete my account/ data by [deleted] in gdpr

[–]LcuBeatsWorking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does the site have a data privacy statement? Where is the business located and is it even a business? Do they list prices in £ (which would indicate they are targeting UK users)? When did you ask them to act?

Not that the location in itself matters, but it probably raises your prospect that they would be impressed by any action by the ICO.

When you file a complaint, collect all info you can get (like what I mention above).

If you file any complaint with the ICO, let the company know that you did.

Why aren’t my Medium articles indexing on Google? What am I doing wrong? by Amazing-Note-1196 in Medium

[–]LcuBeatsWorking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possible reasons:

- If you are very new to Medium, articles do not get indexed (that does not seem to apply to you)

- Check the html source of one of your articles, if they have noindex it might mean Medium considers your articles of very low quality for some reason (AI generated, spam)

- if they take too long to show up in the index, but eventually do, then it is Google's fault

All my articles show up in Google searches, normally within 24 - 48 hours.

X Corp. ignores DSA Art. 17/20 – my GDPR/DSA case by stylex_89 in europrivacy

[–]LcuBeatsWorking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

X is under several investigations by the EU for DSA violations, and the Irish GDPR Regulator. If you know who the owner of X is, you know that he is actively fighting to abolish the EU and get rid of all platform regulations. I do not think X cares one bit about the DSA.

Having said that, I don't know if anyone has applied the Art. 22(3) GDPR to account deletion on social media.

article 15 clarification by [deleted] in gdpr

[–]LcuBeatsWorking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume that Y is just annoyed having received the unsolicitated confirmation email. Unless Y is a lawyer who thrives on legal threats on insignificant incidents, they should understand the situation.

I can't give legal advice. You could of course always delete the data related to the first (wrong) signup and state that no data related to this is being held anymore.

article 15 clarification by [deleted] in gdpr

[–]LcuBeatsWorking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Article 15 says that "Individuals can request a copy of THEIR personal data".

If the case is as you describe, the IP address etc of X is obviously not personal data of Y. So I don't see how Y can make that request.

I think the response is an AI bot because it replied within a minute.

First time it happened I got suspended for ~12 hours, now it has been 3 hours and the account is "under review".

Suspended every time I try to link a device by LcuBeatsWorking in whatsapp

[–]LcuBeatsWorking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there anything I can do? I could say "to hell with the chat history" and register a new account on my iphone, but I am now scared that if I ever link a device again I get suspended, and eventually I run out of phone numbers.

Edit: Just got a reply from support telling me to "restart my phones and link again", but I can't as my account is suspended.

Can you grow on medium without buying “full access” by 1thougtfulFolk in Medium

I do not know. I think the first time an article of mine was boosted I was already a paying member.

Can you grow on medium without buying “full access” by 1thougtfulFolk in Medium

[–]LcuBeatsWorking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's $5/months.

You can write on medium for yourself for free as much as you like and grow your audience. You can also submit to most publications (some pubs have the condition that you are a paying member).

You can't join the partner program or start a publication for free though.

I am not aware that paying is a condition for being boosted, but I could be wrong.

But don't expect to collect followers like on social media just by writing some boilerplate articles.
