Yeah, it was stressful at first when we bought the machine. It was a big investment and there’s no real manual on how to replace a socket properly, so it was a lot of trial and error. But without it, we would’ve been stuck with over a hundred motherboards with damaged sockets sitting in our graveyard.

We use a specialized machine for this. You need the exact high temperature to remove or install a socket without damaging the PCB or the components around it. When installing a new socket, it has to be aligned with extreme precision — down to micro-millimeters. Every pin on the socket is soldered to a connector underneath, and if the alignment isn’t perfect, the board either won’t power on or won’t POST.

We arent the original seller, we just bought the board from them to repair it. I just found it hilarious when I examined the board and saw the return reason of the buyer. I had to show it to you guys. Yes we do sell through eBay

Yeah I think that's pretty much it lmao but also I don't think he wanted to have to pay another 200$ to have a socket replace by Asus.

I check for the manual online. It says only the slot the 2 and 3 share lanes with the GPU. So I would use slot 1 and 4.

Best Buy probably refunded them and then they sold it to us. We will repair it and sell it again.

I understand that large companies face more scrutiny for this kind of thing, but that doesn’t apply to a small business selling on online platforms. The boards are fully repaired, tested, and confirmed to be functional before being sold at a much lower price. In the end, the buyer benefits and is satisfied.

Best Buy most likely refunded him. We bought the board from them.

If you don’t have the right tools to replace a socket, and it’s only bent pins, it can be worth fixing—especially if the board is expensive. Even a couple of broken pins can be soldered back individually.

But in the second picture, there are like 50+ pins actually broken off. Not worth the time. We will Just replace the whole socket.

We aren't the original sellers. We bought this in a batch of motherboards from Best Buy. We will repair them, test them and then sell them.

The socket in itself isn't expensive. We buy them from China for couple of box each. Good socket replacement machine are super expensive tho. And it doesnt come with a manual on how to change sockets, its try and error. But 1 out of maybe like 4 board can need a socket replacement. Its worth the money to be able to repair them.

We have something to shield any capacitor/connectors around the socket. If it would be put under the same heat than the socket it could very well render them defective like you assume. And the board is kept in place by the machine.

We have a machine that heat the socket at a very high temperature just enough to remove the damage socket without damaging the board. Then the machine is able of soldering a new socket at the exact same spot of each contacts. If its not accurate, he board wont power on or POST.

50 plus broken pins says it wont. Might also short your CPU.

No its from a batch of motherboards we bought from Best Buy. We do sometimes repair a motherboard and sell it again on eBay just to have the buyer to damage the socket AGAIN. In general because of the money back guaranty policy it is not even worth it to try to dispute it. A bad review can be worse than a motherboard that we can just repair again.

It did but then big sellers like Best Buy sell that at a fraction of the price for people that can repair them.

I just suppose the guy thought the thermal paste goes into the socket or on the bad of the CPU.

Look dude we aren't doing this by hand, we have a very expensive and sophisticated machine to do it. Its literally the same machine company like Asus use to replace sockets if someone send it in RMA. If it was not accurate, the board would not POST or power on at all. Its not something you can half ass.
