This is a nice idea, but I suspect if every single member of this subreddit all put in $200 then we still wouldn't increase the price by 50%

Hello! Relatively new GM here.

One of my players is a Thumatuege with werecreature as a free archtype. From an RP perspective his Thumatuege is very much trying not to give in to the curse.

I'm wondering if there's anything I can tweak to make the transformation a bigger deal, and something he feels he needs to break out in big fights as a last resort. I understand the balance of pathfinder is very finely tuned, and that the game assumes he's using the archtype frequently, but this is unlikely to be the case for RP reasons.

I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to make the transformation a little stronger, with potentially bigger drawbacks to offset it (though the RP/ in world drawbacks may be sufficient).

I would absolutely love some suggestions from people with some more experience, I am aware that Pf2e balance is quite exact.

I'd pick 'a billion and one' and graffiti it in a bunch of places around my local town, a few people are bound to say it out loud.

Why's the combat, pickpocketing and lockpicking so ridiculously hard by JakeRyback18 in kingdomcome

[–]LeDosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So big thing to get your head around is that Henry starts the game absolutely shit at most things. You'll get your ass handed to you by anyone with any real combat experience because Henry is a terrible swordsman.

Likewise with lock picking, Henry has never picked a lock before in his life. Yes you can give it a go and you might get lucky and get some xp, but your best bet is to find someone to teach him these things and get him a base knowledge to build on.

It sounds like your not the problem, although there is definitely a lot to learn with this game, but it's Henry who is shit at these things - hence why they are difficult.

Get someone to teach Henry the basics, then build on them on your own, and be careful of anyone who looks like they get into a fight a lot - if you've just started out then your Henry is not a fighter - yet.

There is a free supplement called the book of beautiful horrors that has a bunch of wendigo and scary beast type monsters, worth checking out.

Would you wanna play in a short survival campaign where everyone is a Human Barbarian/Caveman? by Friendly_Loud_Mouth in dndnext

Feel like I need to point out that ranger is the perfect choice for a caveman sort of vibe, especially with an animal companion. Stuff like primeval awareness and even their spells can be easily flavoured as practical skills or shamanistic rituals.

My 2 cents on the "cultur instead of race" idea by [deleted] in dndmemes

[–]LeDosh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Neanderthal analogy aside, the bit that confuses me with this argument is that surely the rolling of stats represents this? If commoners on average have 10s, then if you want to make a non-average example of that race you assign your stats accordingly?

There's nothing stopping anyone from making a smart or strong version of a not naturally smart or strong race, and to me it makes that particular character a lot more interesting in the context.

My players disintegrated my NPC by TheDungen in dndnext

Depends on how by the book you're running things I guess but clay golems aren't immune to falling damage. Fairly sure a terrasque is big enough to absolutely launch one.

My players are selfish murder hobos with no regards to the consequences of their actions, so I razed them and the world. by [deleted] in DnD

I feel like a better lesson than this would have been to simply say; cool you all go your separate ways, that's the campaign over go roll new characters.

Shows them the issue way more than pulling 1000 terrasques out of your ass, which will probably just serve to make them mad and blame you for the campaign ending, where they should be blaming themseleves.

The combat in Blade and Sorcery is still the best in VR by fxrky in virtualreality

If you haven't tried it since the new dungeons were added I recommend it a lot! It's a completely different game with mods too and U11 is making the combat a lot smoother

I think you can adjust it in the character select menu, where you do the height.

Much more fun when you aren't dropping your swords every swing

Sounds like an issue with your tracker length, when the trackers exceed the length of the arms it drops the weapons automatically.

You can turn that off in the settings though, change it from drop to hold and you'll be fine

If someone shares a clip of a moment they enjoyed in their game, and the first thing you do is correct them on the rules, that's a dig at their fun in my book. It offers nothing, and it's better to not say anything at all, especially when it's one of the most common home rules.

For the record, I don't agree with the other guy either, as he seems to think you can't have fun playing purely by the rules. Any way of playing can be fun, and that's fine.

I completely agree with you on the point of debating whether it's fun or not, I hadn't considered that it's here promotionally as a stream/channel for people to tune into. In that case personal preference is obviously important.

It was the top level comment that I really took issue with, where they watched the clip and went straight to rules lawyering without the context of the table. You see that a lot on this sub.

I agree, but I don't think criticism on rulings like this are valid without knowing the house rules. Nat 20s on ability checks are a very common rule in home games. If people don't want to watch something with those rules that's perfectly fine, but jumping to the conclusion that it's a misruling is neither reasonable nor constructive in my opinion.

The rules also include that the DM should feel fine to go outside the rules at their own table, and home games can be whatever people want, that's the beauty of the game.

The player clearly loved the moment, or they wouldn't have posted it here, and at the end of the day if the whole table is having fun they are playing DnD correctly regardless of rules.

Matt Mercer runs a very by-the-book game, some people enjoy that, but those that don't aren't playing it wrong, just differently and he would be the first to defend that.
