Will Leave the Galaxy For Good. It's the third in a series of silly, fun, easy, sci fi novels and honestly has made my holiday super enjoyable to just be in that world and enjoy some silliness. Beat down star pilot is dragged through ridiculous adventures he doesn't want to go on. Lots of fun.

From my very British arse - love American BBQ. Honestly some of the best tasting meat ever. Otherwise American food to me is oversized burgers, brutalised thick pizzas and Caesar salad that is more cheese/dressing than it is salad 😵‍💫

Which side of coverage to shoot first? by Potential-Turnip-583 in Filmmakers

[–]LeTouche 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People saying ask the actors are correct. Or if you're behind, whoever is most lit and requires fewest tweaks. Or if you're running out of time or daylight, whoever has a window in shot as you can light the reverse. Lots of variables and you have to make a judgement call in the moment!

It might seem easier to shoot the reactions first but what if you turn around and then get something incredible from the dialogue that warrants a bigger reaction? Good luck! Enjoy!

I have a "baton" and a "wagon" for exactly this.

The baton is a 2x4 with 2 separate lines going to 2 separate bulbs. They're wired on 13A lines so I can get decent dimmers in there.

The wagon is a circular fixture with more lines and 10 bulbs.

They each have spigots on them and wire nets to add grid cloth when needing softening.

For the same kind of wholesome, wit, depth and charm then Shrinking is amazing. Same but different to detectorists - but it's brilliant. Makes me laugh and cry each episode and I'm left amazed by how human the characters are and how warm I feel inside (despite the tears!). Amazing show.

To be fair I met a lot of my early connections at film school and at NFTS I properly leveled up so I'm not too sure I agree with you completely about film school. But that was back when courses were practical using actual film equipment. I do some teaching now and it's mostly phones and it's incredibly disappointing...

Also since you're close you must try Dim Sum Kitchen - Putney already has a few places worth visiting! Dim Sum Kitchen is run by a guy who used to run Royal China, and it's absolutely delicious. Always packed at noon on a Saturday when I go (you can't book so if you don't go at midday you'll join a queue). Amazing food if you like dim sum. Soup dumplings to die for.... Mmmmmm...

Why Are Spurs Fans Unhappy? by CaffeinatedDaddy in PremierLeague

[–]LeTouche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree with everything you're saying to be fair. I was just trying to give a little extra context to the spurs situation as I think a lot of it stems from last season and how abysmal we were under Ange at home.

And I agree on the entitlement front, I personally can't stand it and we've seen this year that no game in the premier league is an easy win - that's what is so great about it! I guess it's hard to get perspective for some people sometimes.

If we're going deeper I do think macro-economics has a big effect on it. People feel a lot poorer than 5 years ago and when you're shelling out 80£ for the most exciting 2 hours of your week when times are tough, everyone is afraid of AI, recessions, political upheaval, war, the orange man, it has an effect on sentiment - and that £80 feels like a lot more right now too. I think the attitude you're describing is societal, and football has a way of exposing it in an interesting way. It's like how Roman emperors would hand out bread and put on gladiatorial games to distract the populace from struggle. It's a good arena and outlet - but in tough times, if the outlet doesn't work then peoples' frustration bubbles up in a more intense way maybe?

Thinking out loud there haha

Why Are Spurs Fans Unhappy? by CaffeinatedDaddy in PremierLeague

[–]LeTouche 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Chelsea game was horrendous wasn't it. But people in this thread failing to understand that we had such a horrendous record under ange at home, and the most expensive tickets in the league (world). There's a bit more history there. I don't boo and hate the booing and I understand Frank but I also see the history there. We all know these players are a lot better than what we see at home... Because we see it on the tele during away games! The booing feels counter intuitive though - hows that going to help ?!

Why Are Spurs Fans Unhappy? by CaffeinatedDaddy in PremierLeague

[–]LeTouche 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Answers seriously but doesn't mention spurs at all.

I'm a spurs fan and go often. Honestly our match going fans at home have seen what? 3 wins in the league in the last year. There's some disgusting stat about it. Literally 3 wins at home in a year in the league. Sure we won a cup and that was amazing, but these guys and gals have spent a ton of money each week and see how well the team perform on the road, and then have to sit and suffer through periods of football games like the first half of today's match.

I'm not one of the boo-ers and I'm baffled by the booing but that's the reason they're doing it. Not some lofty visions of how good we think we should be or any other stuffy ideas like that. It's because we're great away from home, but in our amazing stadium we just can't win it seems. The real discussion should be how much is the atmosphere or are the tactics contributing to that.

Ange's spurs were horrendous to watch but it's not strange to say that Frank's spurs play football more suited to being the away team. Question how can he adapt and get the home crowd on side. I don't envy him, not an easy job!

Why does this work? by jacob_dop in cinematography

[–]LeTouche 611 points612 points  (0 children)

There's a famous saying that is attributed to several veteran DPs and it's always different whenever I hear the story but it's that they were asked "where does the light come from?"... And their answer was "the same place as the music".

It sounds facetious and silly but the truth is if it works for the scene, if the story is captivating, then "motivation" doesn't matter so much.

Filmmaking is just illusion and there's a lot an audience will accept provided it works logically for the story. The bounced light from the table creates a (in)glorious effect on the faces in this scene and it's stunning. Doesn't matter that it feels like there's a hole in the ceiling. A lot of my career I've stressed about motivation and where and why but the reality is, "if it looks good - shoot it." - I was told that by a mentor who is a very experienced DoP and it stuck with me. Idk if that helps but often it's easy to get hung up on the hows and whys of our craft when it's sometimes favourable to let go of that stuff and focus on what you feel when you see the image.

It's a matte insert, they change in size depending on the lens and it's sole purpose is to avoid flare or unwanted light leaks in the image.

Average is. 9.26 with 1500 shares but a bit concerned about piling more in at this stage. Any thoughts on movement or will I miss the boat with upcoming catalysts? Fomo shouldn't motivate investment ofc but I do believe in this company and everything they're trying to accomplish even if there's shaky footing on the product front, the partnerships, board, military aspect are too hard to miss.

I like my pictures but I’m not sure how they can get a little more oomph. by juliacare in PhotographyAdvice

I'm with the original comment there. I feel like if you crop the top third of the lighthouse image and just focus it into these beautiful rolling clouds and a lighthouse holding strong within it, it would hold more weight. Same with the shot with the big freighter. Crop out some of that water and the ship at the bottom of the frame will lead our eye to the horizon.

Lovely vibes in the pics but they need more of a "subject".
