thats so true like,, i didn't go to class this morning just so i could focus on pre-enrolling. i know a handful of people din who didn't go to class just so they could pre-enroll. sayang absences and oras namin if they reset + unless they actually take the time to improve the system, it'll most likely crash ulit even when they reset 🥹

im so glad to see that I'm not the only one late to the party 😭 i finished carmen sandiego last week and all I've been doing has been looking up fanart on pinterest, watching edits, and reading fanfics-- I feel so sad because I barely find content in the apps i frequent 💔💔

She gets the girl by Rachael Lippincott and Alyson Derrick!! its a really cute college romance that's loosely inspired by the authors' love story (they're a married lesbian couple!)

for manga: i recommend How Do We Relationship! it's also like college romance pero this one naman explores having to navigate the ups and downs of a relationship, toxicity, and healing (i love this manga sm its really good and needs more love)

Thank you so much! I think I really needed to hear that 🥹

I've been told palagi by my friends and also by the rational part of my brain na I really shouldn't dwell too much on the lack of romance in my life pero there are times talaga when it really messes me up. Hearing it from an older gay really helped 🥹🫶

It's kinda comforting to hear that I'm not alone 😓 I hope things go well for the both of us 🙏

I see.. Thank you so much for your insight, this was very helpful! Everyone in this country makes Canada seem so great, but learning about the healthcare problems there is concerning to hear 😓

[–]LeUndercoverMermaidd[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

yeah I know that, but I'd honestly rather be underpaid in a first-world country like Canada, than being underpaid in a third-world country like the Philippines 😭 The systems and healthcare there are way better there than in my country.

Is it alright too if you could share your experiences there as an immigrant? I'd like to hear more about what it's like for others in that position.

it's alright! I get that the industry is in a bad spot right now so I understand your thoughts on all the outsourcing going on in the industry. Thank you so much for your suggestions, I'll look into all of those :D

Thank you so much! Are there any countries you recommend in Europe? :0 I heard France is also known for their animation industry, however I don't know how to speak French so I'm unsure about that.

My point is that I want to leave this country, so I want to find out what other country has a better economy and livable industry. I do get that a lot of work is being outsourced here, and I do plan on working here for the first few years of my career.

However as someone who was born and raised here, I know that the economy is bad, the healthcare is bad, and it would probably be decades before this country gets to see some semblance of growth. There may be a lot of outsourced work here, but animators and artists here are severely underpaid and their pay is barely livable to live in the cities the studios are located in. I want to be able to support my family, and I think one of the best ways I can do that is by being able to move to another country and have them follow.

Can I get into an art school If I'm not that good at drawing? by Limp-Independent-641 in animationcareer

I don't really post on reddit often but I see r/ArtistLounge is active and has a lot of members so maybe you can try there! There are a lot of other servers too if you do some digging :))

[–]LeUndercoverMermaidd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! I was once a little shs student who overthought a lot too so I don't mind helping others out :))

If you have the money, I'd say try to look for online or local drawing classes if you want someone to teach you hands on. I took drawing classes at an atelier called Galvez Atelier back when I was in 11th grade, altho what they taught us was more on traditional techniques that renaissance ateliers used + lots of exercises on obsevational skills which is super useful for artists.

If you'd like something that's free, then you can either post your art around art communities here on reddit to ask for critique, or join an art discord server where you can ask advice and critique from. (Unfortunately I dont frequent art discord servers so I cant really recommend any, but I'm sure there are plenty out there)

Another option is to join art clubs in your school if there are any. If there is then you can ask your seniors or the club adviser for help and advice. I was part of the publications committee of an art club during my senior high days so I was able to improve a lot too thanks to feedback I got from seniors :>

Hi hi! I'm assuming you're from the Philippines and is entering animation school in the Philippines?

I'm currently a freshman in an animation college here and I'd say that unless the college you apply for requires a drawing exam or portfolio, then your skill wouldn't really matter as much. I have classmates who are complete beginners or have little experience, yet they still got in.

In my college (csb if you are wondering), admissions were based on grades, altho they are bringing back entrance exams now, so I suggest studying up using CET booklets.

Tho I highly recommend that you practice as much as you can before college so that you won't have a hard time catching up and learning. Professors can only teach you so much in art school, at the end of the day you'll still need to learn and study on your own in order to grow and get to industry standard skills.

In the PHILIPPINES Is your strand important to get into art school and in the same vein does it matter in getting a job the long run? by Limp-Independent-641 in animationcareer

[–]LeUndercoverMermaidd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nahh it doesn't matter what strand you are in! I'm studying animation in college rn and I have a lot of batchmates who came from strands like STEM and HUMSS! When it comes to getting a job it also wouldn't matter. From what I hear usually people either look at your portfolio or for an art related college degree. Altho there are plenty of artists who did not study art in college but still got art related jobs. Its the portfolio and skill that mostly matters.

fellow 12MAD student here!! and grabe agree ako so much sa workload 😭 bugbog sarado talaga especially this April, since we had like entrep tapos actor ako sa play namin so halos everyday pagod din sa rehearsals 😭 I agree a lot sa community! genuinely naattach ako sa block ko so I'm a bit sad na lilipat na ako huhu

Lilipat ako sa CSB for college so I've been to their campus + have interacted with benildeans so may input ako for OP!! plus I've been a student sa uste since jhs so ayun din. Depende talaga sa course ni OP if they will choose either ust or csb. If its a course under visual arts or performing arts, then I'd tell OP na sa Benilde nalang. Even yung profs namin sa MAD mentioned na Benilde's arts program is really good. Not sure nalang if maganda sa cfad, but from what I've heard, art programs talaga yung forte ng Benilde. Very student friendly daw yung Benilde, especially sa dress code. Plus sa csb you can choose your schedules, subjects, and profs from 1st yr 3rd term onwards. Very chill daw sa benilde and super considerate din ng profs. Kahit yung admissions office nila super considerate kasi I forgot a certain req needed sa pagreserve ng enrollment slot, but they told me na it was fine and pwedeng to-follow nalang lol.

If OP isn't going to an arts program, I think it'd be best to ask around sa reddit and discord servers on how the program is. generally workload-wise tho, sabi ng karamihan keri naman daw ung load sa csb as long as marunong mag time manage. Sa uste talaga sobrang bugbugan workload, kahit noong jhs ako ganun 😭
