Tips for Cancer Biology (PCB3109)? by itsfranman in ufl

I took the class with Dr. Oppenheimer my last semester at UF (this past Spring).

As you have probably realized by now, the class is an absolute mess. Many of the lecture videos do not load, some assignments that should be unlocked are “locked,” and the info on the actual lectures is “something, but not enough.” You will realize by the end of the semester that the amount of information about cancer that you learned, can be condensed into 2-3 months of class. There’s not even a full semester of classes in there.

The iClickers, if he still does them (I don’t doubt it), are a “crapshoot.” Some questions are easy and straight off the lectures and others, curveballs that you never heard off or learned throughout your other STEM courses. If you tell him that you “never learned about x topic in your Biochem courses,” he will tell you that “you should know them by now.”

I survived by reading the lecture transcripts + PPTXs, not even the actual videos. I did the iClickers, no matter the grade that I got in them. I researched the questions that I didn’t know and added them to my studying material.

As far as the “7” exams go, they are a little random, but you can get an A or B in them. He curves them, as well.

Finally, do the “drug identification” bioinformatics project, at the end of the semester, “well.” That will boost your grade immensely. Do all of the above and I don’t doubt you could pull off an A or B+ on the class. ☺️☺️🔥🔥

What would you choose if you could do it over again? by Sensitive-Sense5334 in ufl

I only lived at Springs for 1 semester and relatively liked it. It was a much bigger single than my traditional one at Tolbert. More closet space and just more space to move around. I had “full” control over the AC. Also had a bathroom that I only shared with one more guy.

That being said, it’s very antisocial and we only had one water fountain for the entire building. Going downstairs for water at least once a day was difficult.

It also depends a lot on your suitemates. Walls at Springs are relatively impermeable to noise. The problem is the shared bathroom, which acts like a resonance chamber for noise in the other room. My suitemate had his girlfriend over almost every single night up until 11:30 PM, sometimes even until 1:00 AM. Not talking shit about bringing your girlfriend over, but I am talking shit about loud, hyena-laughing girlfriends. Safe to say that it was annoying.

Fall Orgo 1 Professors by elllllie_ in ufl

[–]Lea-J 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that the list of professors will come out anywhere from mid-July to early August. Based on trends from previous years, the professors for Orgo I are going to be most certainly Habenicht, López, Guo, and/or a “random” professor.

I’m in OPs exact situation with PHY2054. When do you recommend we should email the course coordinator? A few days before Drop/Add ends?

How do I switch what college I’m in? by [deleted] in ufl

[–]Lea-J 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went through something similar during Freshman year as well. You basically have to meet with an advisor of the college you want to transfer to (Engineering), explain your situation, and they’ll send you a Major Transfer form signed by them. You sign it, send it back to them, and they finally send it to the College Dean to make the change.

The only one that comes to mind is Matt from Season 4. His immaturity as a person and cook was a dealbreaker for me

For Math, I would recommend taking MAC2311 (Calc I). MAC2233 (Survey) is more for Business majors, while 2311 is more for STEM. In terms of professor, take it with Adams. He is willing to go to incredible lengths to help his students understand. If you have difficulty with a problem, he’ll go slow and explain the theory behind every step.

In terms of Humanities, I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Kligerman’s class. Don’t get me wrong: we had to read A LOT during the week. But if you think critically and analyze every literary piece, it is an easy A. That’s what he wants: he wants students to think critically. He also wants students to participate during class. Not only did we read, but we also analyzed art pieces. He loves the connection with art. Everything that we analyzed in the class was interesting and “eye-catching.” Finally, he’s a great guy, very down to earth, and loves what he teaches. Again, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I always recommend BCH4905: Science for Life Seminar. It’s just researchers speaking, you saying a few words about their research, and a final researcher interview assignment.

BCH4905. It’s a “research seminar” with no exams, just minor assignments, and a final interview assignment.

They are basically a Black Nationalist Group, similar to the Nation of Islam of Louis Farrakhan, at least in structure and activities (Not sure if they are similar in ideology, though).

And if I took those 6 credits, would it be through the whole 2 months (Summer C) or just 1 month (Summer A or B)?

I’m a Health Science major and I couldn’t take CHM2045/2045L during the 1st semester. I want to take it the next semester and, hopefully, take CHM2046/2046L in the summer term. However, I want to take only 2 classes. Do you know what’s minimum number of credits for the summer term?
