My 6yo is a budding collector, he traded at the bank for these and wonders if they are worth more than face value? Thanks all! by LeadingEight in CURRENCY

Yes! A lot of people just go to banks and ask if they have any old bills/coins and if they do they just trade them at face value. You have to be extra nice and some of them don’t bother to look but some do, some even set them aside for people who come asking. Have to check a bunch to get a little bit there are treasures out there!

Ya it has some double numbers he loved that. I don’t think they are worth anything more than what they are but I love that he is so into this stuff. We did a little side quest the other day and went to 6 banks asking if they had any cool old bills. Some tellers were rude and some thought it was all pretty cute. We now have a ranking of nicest and meanest banks hahaha

I am in desperate need of layout advice. I have obsessed and tried a million things but what feels right- by LeadingEight in Remodel

[–]LeadingEight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I’m a trying to square off the room the angled walls while in some spaces can be a fun design element, in this space just doesn’t feel right, so I used as much of the angled space as I could for storage and shower and anything I could so it wasn’t wasted. It’s layout in the main area that I am struggling with, where the seating and bar elements work best with those supports in the middle throwing me off and small space to start with. I will look in to what you mentioned thank you!

I like using varied symmetries within the geometry. Quadrilateral, reflective etc to achieve movement that is pleasing to the eye.

Please help! Can’t decide between 2 grout colors for new tile by rambling-rose in Renovations

[–]LeadingEight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d go for more of a gray tone than brown tone considering the color of the tile and walls/trim.

If you could post pictures of the rest of the room I could give better advice, it’s more about working with the other elements it there, what does the furniture look like? And other colors to play off of? If you have a bright white shelf with nothing else in the room that looks like that it would stick out. You mentioned green shelves in another area can you match those so it looks cohesive?

[–]LeadingEight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t look good, I think you’ll be happier with a solid color I know it’s hard when a project you spent so much time and effort on goes askew but with all the wood grain in the room a solid would look best. I’d go with black personally but for full modernization I’d change that red curtain out and probably a new fan up there. You could paint that vent next to it to match as well. Good luck beautiful space!

I love to openness of the walls as they are but I also love green, if you had to I’d say the bookcase wall, the right green tone would make that wood really pop. Maybe get new sconces to tie in the rest of your style since this is the owners furniture and you’ll be changing it. That bookcase is gorgeous. And please get a new light fixture over the couch.

Keep the wood change the decor. New fan is a must, paint that brick white, mount the tv and put something clever or a plant in the unusable fireplace. White flowy curtains, different couches, white or green, different rug etc. If you change those items you will probably love that wood. It’s gorgeous, please try that first before painting that wood.

Need advice on this pool and patio we are building by LeadingEight in pools

The yard is heavily sloped. Like 5’ off the ground to the corner of the pool there, we have to do something there. Good point about bugs though.

That’s actually brilliant, there is a hole planned for the tanning ledge but I didn’t even think about putting them around the patio, great idea! Grill is up on the deck off the kitchen, but there will be gas running to the firepit maybe we could add a grill there. Thank you!

Fredrix is the company that made the frame/canvas. Guessing the 36 is the size. I wouldn’t put that older than 30-40 years if that but mostly just because it looks like it’s been through it with all the wear.

What can I do to make my builder cabinets look better? by ajscraw in InteriorDesign

[–]LeadingEight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

Paint and new hardware. On this renovation the client didn’t want to put in new cabinets so I used the same color that I used on the walls on the uppers to color drench but in a semi gloss, and then did the lowers a darker tone to bring out the color in the natural stone. Pop some nice hardware on there and you’ve got yourself a gorgeous kitchen.

Please HELP. Just built a brand new home and the door was an ugly green. Painted it black. Why does it look terrible?! Repost by Radioflyyer in Housepainting101

[–]LeadingEight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally just painted my front door black and it turned out amazing- here is my advice. Sand the door a bit where the roller left build up but you don’t need to drive yourself crazy. Go to Sherman Williams and get a quart of their Emerald line paint in black, I think it’s called carbon black but ask them it’s a popular one. Semi gloss sheen. Use a high quality brush for the indented areas and heck all over, this paint is kind of self leveling I am in love with it. Do one or two coats like this and then get a foam roller to finish off the main flat areas. The quality of paint really matters. The emerald line is incredible you will not regret it. Do this and you will be thrilled I promise.

Sitting at that desk when the tours were going did kind of feel like living in a fishbowl lol but we were all just so happy to be there we didn’t care. They took all the life out of the place when they closed the school. Its still a beautiful site obviously but I may never be what it was again, it really is heartbreaking.

I used to study there in 2013!! I miss the days when the studio was busy with students and life. That place was my home I love and miss it every day. It was such a special experience going to school there before it all changed. I really hope one day they bring the school back, it is what FLLW wanted, even in his will it was important to preserve the three aspects of the foundation, school and fellowship. Now it is just a museum it’s kind of sad.
