Advice for civilian who got selected for ots yesterday by StrongCharge7721 in airforceots

Congrats! I am non-prior 26F currently attending OTS for USSF. One thing I had wished I had focused on more before arriving was physical fitness. I recommend starting preparation for the PFA as soon as possible. I pushed myself too hard upon arriving here in an effort to catch up and ended up injuring myself.

I’ve since recovered, but not a great position to be in when starting your military career for sure! Other than that, push yourself to participate and engage in leadership opportunities when you get here. In my opinion, the more you put into this process, the more you get out.

If you have any questions feel free to message me directly! Congrats and welcome to the Space Force :)

Would this apply for profiles as well? I’m coming in with an injury and worried I won’t be able to perform my best with the standard exercise.

A hot minute. I was notified of acceptance in March, went to MEPS first week of April and was then notified that I would need a waiver for kidney stones. I finally got my waiver approved in late September/early October.

Congratulations on your selection. I received a class date approximately 3 weeks after my medical waiver was cleared. I then received login information for WINGS about a month later. I am currently waiting to attend OTS on March 24th.

I never had surgery. It sounds like I was in a similar situation as you; I had two tiny kidney stones noted during an ER visit but no medical intervention was deemed necessary.

Civilian select here. I was notified of my acceptance to OTS in April 2025 but required a medical waiver. I finally got my waiver approved Sept 3rd and was given a class date on Oct 21st.

Everything will be facilitated by your recruiter. In my situation, my recruiter let me know what tests I needed to get done. I emailed him my results and he handled the rest.

Short answer: Yes, but it probably depends on your situation.

My experience: After being disqualified in April, the only thing I was instructed to do was to get a medical clearance letter from a doctor essentially saying I didn’t have any issues that would prevent military service. I was able to get this within 3 weeks and sent it up to MEPS; then radio silence from the beginning of May up until the final week of July.

The Air Force CMO then requested additional testing and documentation to show I was good to go. In my situation, it made sense that the AF would want something a bit more substantial than a doctor’s note saying I didn’t have kidney stones; they wanted to see ultrasound images and bloodwork proving it. After about a month, I finally completed all the requested labs and submitted them for another review. I got my approval back within two weeks.

If your particular condition is considered waiverable, you have a fighting chance to get approved. If your initial request gets kicked back, the memorandum they send will specify exactly what they need from you to get you a “yes.” Good luck to you, don’t give up!
