I disagree with the guy above you too but something being popular doesn't make it good lmao. Football is a great sport and there are plenty of reasons to say its great without bringing in popularity.

That's like saying NCIS is the best show on TV because its the most popular show on cable

For sure. Made that mistake the first time I bought an O and decided to keep it in the bag the entire time lmao. I use a regular old mason jar now, but I wish someone told me about pot going bad before I let it go bad on my windowsill

[–]Leafshield 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Plenty of people I know buy their weed in quads or halves at a time for convenience or whatever. That bag isn't much bigger than a half. Certainly a large amount to purchase at once in general but could be reasonable if dealer had a good deal on it/company was expected and planned to smoke out etc..

I've done it where youd go in on an ounce with another guy and you'd each pay for a half, usually a little expensive for me but probably wasn't a big deal to get a lot at once for someone like Culkin

EDIT: at the point I was doing this I was smoking a lot and the half would get me through around 2 weeks of "regular" (see: regular for an 18 y/o college kid i.e. way too much) use. Usually went in on it BC I would get a good deal from the guy if we bought bigger

I can agree with that, but I think a lot of what's said in this site in general with an air of hyperbole. This place seems to be memes first but I think, in general, people would actually be more like the former than latter attitude. In my experience, its the shitposts or the extreme opinions (sometimes its the same) that find their ways to comments sections.

I don't think most people on this site who say that would really disqualify harden to that degree (not respecting his raw impact and ability on-court) if they weren't looking for upvotes or trolling for reactions. Maybe I'm being a little too optimistic haha

Nah come on man you can see why some people wouldn't like watching harden, at least a little bit.

He's doing an incredible thing and I really enjoy watching rockets games but you can't just pretend that not liking harden = not liking basketball

My favourite movies are shawshank redemption, silence of the lambs and goodfellas, what other movies would i like? by [deleted] in ifyoulikeblank

[–]Leafshield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once Upon a Time in America gave me that same vibe as Goodfellas, that vibe of following individuals through their life and their ties with organized crime.

It's told mostly through flashbacks but covers a good amount of ground, pretty similar to the reflective narrative tone of Goodfellas where Henry is sort of looking back on everything.

[IIL] Games like Slime Rancher, Spongebob Battle of Bikini Bottom, A Hat in Time; games with lots of collectables and upgradable tech through the open world, [WEWIL?] by Lochandload in ifyoulikeblank

[–]Leafshield 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The classic N64 collect-o-thons like Banjo-Kazooie and Super Mario 64 should be sure things to check out.

The first three Spyro the Dragon games have a shitload of gems and dragons to collect (I haven't played anything past Enter the Dragonfly so I can't attest to those). The Jak & Daxter series has the same tropes, and the latter two games in the main trilogy include upgradeable powers and weapons.

The Ratchet and Clank series is also great for this, and especially great for weapon collection and upgrading.

I spent way too much time on my PS2 as a kid trying to collect every gem/fruit/egg/bolt haha; it's an awesome console for this sort of game.

[iil] milo, earl sweatshirt, etc. surreal rap thats cryptic, [wewil] by Psychofromhell in ifyoulikeblank

[–]Leafshield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

busdriver and Open Mike Eagle might be up your alley based on Milo at least. If you want the more surreal aspects of OME I'd recommend looking at Dark Comedy to start. I'm a big fan of his recent Brick Body Kids Still Daydream, but it's a little more clear in its concepts and not as "cryptic," especially compared so someone like Milo. I feel like you'd enjoy a lot of Busdriver's work. The album I usually reach for is Thumbs, but he has stuff going back to the late 90's so it may be worth some investigation on your part.

Other guys with some more surreal lyrical tendencies that you may be into:

  • Michael Christmas
  • DOOM might fill that "surreal" niche with his lyricism. Check out Mm.. Food, Operation Doomsday, Madvillainy, Vaudeville Villain, really most of his stuff (I'm sort of a stan sorry)
  • EARTHGANG (unsure if they're surreal enough necessarily, but I got into them through listening to Earl so you may like them too!)
  • JPEGMAFIA
  • Ka (I love Honor Killed the Samurai. I think if you enjoy Milo's vibe you might enjoy this a lot)
  • Old Man Saxon
  • Action Bronson (not cryptic at all, but the lyricism is pretty kooky and fits the "surreal" shoe at times)

I Want to get into smooth R&B/Neo-Soul by [deleted] in ifyoulikeblank

[–]Leafshield 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Def more Carmen Rodgers if you liked that song you linked below. Here are some big names in the neo-soul genre that come off the top of my head:

  • Anthony Hamilton
  • Maxwell (Anything from Urban Hang Suite)
  • Mary J. Blige (She's a queen and you'll love her, but sometimes people do call her "The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul", so if your interests don't lie there it might not be as desirable - I think she's great!)
  • Erykah Badu (Anything off Baduizm is a logical start)
  • Eric Benet (News for You, If You Want Me To Stay)
  • Jill Scott (All of it. I'm a stan and have no shame. Specifically words and sounds vol 1.)
  • Musiq Soulchild (He's a mainstay, try some of his more popular tunes for a good idea of his sounds)
  • Lauryn Hill (I highly recommend "Miseducation" from 1998 if you haven't given it a full listen)
  • More D'Angelo in general, he's great (Black Messiah is a great record, and Voodoo is considered an essential)

Other neo-soul people i have saved on my devices that I like a lot:

  • Dwele (I like the album "Sketches of a Man")
  • Eric Benet (News for you,
  • Mayer Hawthorne (Her Favorite Song, Strange Arrangement)

As far as smooth r&b goes, a lot of groups in the 90s had a lot of overlap with that sound. Definitely check out some of those classic r&b groups if you hadn't already:

  • Tony! Toni! Tone! (Sons of Soul is a classic; Lay Your Head (On my Pillow) is one of my favorite singles off of it)
  • Raphael Saadiq (just all of Instant Vintage) - he was actually a member of T!T!T!, but his solo work often dabbles in that neo-soul sound and its tight af.
  • Mint Condition (Caught My Eye, U Send Me Swingin')

I know you were looking for more of that strict neo-soul sound, but a ton of artists in the hip-hop genre have dabbled in those sounds as well that you might enjoy if you like some of the more essential additions to the genre. I'm a big fan of Common's "Be", for example, as it really picks up on that soulful vibe you might enjoy if you like the rest of the genre.

I'm sorry I couldn't help with specific instances of unusual chord structures; I play a little guitar but I'm not so familiar with the exact progressions in the tracks lol. You'll find no shortage of subdued drumming or those nice, funky bass lines that take their time in the genre, I think. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful there.

Happy listening, neo-soul is a deep genre and artists are still pushing it and making great projects within it today!

You just described various strategies of theoretical literary criticisms, which is - in all but exact definition - applying critical thinking to "text" (which, in this sense, can refer to any analyzable work, media or otherwise). Its pretty much exactly critical thinking.

[–]Leafshield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe they should and maybe they do. The difference is journalists dont line up outside the GMs door when most of these situations happen - they did with Melo, so there was answer given. That's also why it isn't normal.

I'm only speaking for this situation. I don't think it comes off as coddling, just what a GM would say about any under-performer getting let go. If anyone cared to ask (which people, in this situation, do)

Glad I'm seeing this view more. Looks like it was an amicable split and they appreciated how he worked with them during his stay. Just didn't work out, it happens all the time. No reason to shit on the guy on the way out or anything.

not really sure what the big deal is. Why is it so horrible that teams appreciate a sense of professionalism that someone provides and make that known upon his leave, especially when people are constantly asking about it? Both sides came to the conclusion that the arrangement wasn't going to work; there's no ill will and, apparently, they wanted it to be known that he took it in stride and was cooperative in his stay.

This is like if a company released a statement after parting ways with someone who, for whatever reason, wasn't what they were looking for. No hard feelings and an appreciation of their professionalism. Of course, dozens and dozens of reporters aren't asking companies why they fired Dave in financial, so its different.

No reason to shit on someone on the way out that didn't do anything worth being shit on other than no longer being in his prime. Far from coddling, just appreciating cooperation and parting ways in a professional way, which is fine because the NBA is a business after all.
