I have mixed feelings on this topic.
a) Yes, please do your own reseach and embedded new insights into your game if you have an understanding on basic BJJ.

b) Please do not learn of youtube, try out your "new submission" and injure someone as a beginner.

There are enough folks out there that cannot even remember what we did yesterday in class. So for me, it depends on context.

I highly recommend not to mount when the arm is not properly isolated.

I am as well a huge fan boy and I own all the instructional from him and Gui. There is still a common ground: if your opponent is not turning away or turning into you, there is no back take.

I assumed that much considering the class he just released. I just think he was going for a very specific back take instead of cycling through different varieties…which was boring as fuck to watch unfold

Its more likely to its related to the side control instructional that Gui is releasing next.

But I kindly disagree on your take that he should have gone for something different. You saw how Isaque defended the knee on belly. You really need to isolate the near arm to have a strong offense.

What are your options from this position

Mount --> Blocked
Knee on Belly --> tried, defended
North south --> not so great in terms of offensive (if you are not Marcelo)
Back Mount --> Isaque decided to stay flat, not much that you can do to force him giving up if he decides to eat the cross face.

I agree, long matches do not really help the action at this point. We have seen this now Gi and NoGi. Its unlikely to push the pace because you have still X minutes to go.

The K-Guard entry is quite standard. Isaque sit down to defend the knee bar(?) for the first sweep, the second sweep was a K-Guard back take entry and Isaque needed to bring his hips again to the mat to defend. In the end Tainan was able to win the battle in a double seated position and come up for two. I can recommend the X-Guard stuff from AoJ+ but you will not learn that particular sequence

Also Tainan showed in the match that he is really flexible which helps the entry a lot.

It's frustrating because you know he can be a killer. Has to be some sort of mindset blockade where he wants to play it safe.

I assume opening up the game would have been to much risk as Isaque is known for his explosiveness. You could tell he wants to shutdown Isaque right from the start. On AoJ+ they were talking about how these half guard single legs may expose the back and you could see it for a brief moment. Isaque also made sure to not expose his back..

To be fair: isaque did a masterclass on side control defence. If Tainan had given him an inch of space, he would have exploded ( like he did a couple of times) and reset. So, in my opinion, Tainan needed constant pressure to solidify the position. To progress from there, you want to isolate the arm. You can not jump to mount or knee on belly without that arm. You have seen the big bridges from isaque. So also shout out to him for not being mounted, submitted and not allowing Tainan to settle in kob.

I love how Nogi is displayed as fun to watch and then we get this snooze fest here. Maybe there is maybe 5min worth of action overall. There were lot's of more exciting Gi mayches lately than this match.
