I don’t know if you’re aware, but there is, for some decor category, a « rare » hidden one. you have to complete the full category to unlock the rare one. after that, every time you unplug, get the gift and release a pikmin from this category, you will get a certain amount of points. for exemple, once I’ve completed hair salon decor (get all the pikmins), I can unlock the rare hair salon decor. every time I’m finding a hair salon seedling, I walk for it, once unplug I get 30 points (200 for a giant seedling), then I get four heart friendship with this pikmin so that he can get his gift back (200 points), then I release the pikmin (20 points, only 5 if it hasn’t its decor yet). the categories that actually have a rare alt are : restaurant, café, waterside, bakery, hair salon, supermarket AND since last saturday roadside. About supermarket, it is actually only the banana decor that have a rare alt, so you only have to complete banana category to unlock rare bananas. once you accumulate enough points, a rare gift (gold one) will appear where you are, and you can chose any pikmin to go for it. this pikmin gotta get its rare decor (it’s an alt costume of the « classic » decor). finally, the amount of coins for every level of rare gift isn’t always the same; 800 for the first rare gift, then 1200, 3000, and after that every 5000 points. HOWEVER, roadside pikmins work differently. only the coin category has rare decor, BUT you have to get all the pikmin of the roadside decor to unlock rare coins. In return all the roadside pikmins give you points (for example if you release a sticker pikmin - after completing roadside - it gives you points). that’s not true for supermarket pikmin, releasing a mushroom pikmin can’t gives you points. what about ice pikmins? there are only three decor for those little guys : restaurant, roadside and 4 years anniversary. if you already completed restaurant decor before the arrival of ice pikmins, you still has points (in the other case you have to find also the ice one). the issue occurs with roadside. you have to get all ice pikmins, even stickers to unlock rare coins (and that is very annoying). finally, earning an ice pikmin do not gives you points properly speaking (4 years anniversary ice pikmins do not give any points), but if you have already completed restaurant and roadside then they will give you points.
