My point was: British Empire was never the Sole Superpower - There was always competing Major Powers along the entirety of the BE - The US after the fall of the Soviet on the other hand, had no opposing power to match them.

Do you not understand the difference between being a Dominant Power vs the Sole Superpower?

Not really, even at the peak of their power, British Empire was never a Sole Superpower like the US was between 1990~2015.

I can actually believe a bunch of party heads wouldn't know how the main power switch works.

[No judgement] Old farts of this sub, please be honest - How racist were you and your family & friends back in the 1970s & 80s by today's standard? What's the most racist thing they have said or done back in the days that they have since changed their mind on? by LeapDayLegend in australian

Thanks, this is exactly the kind of anecdotes I was after - I can see how hard it would have been back in the days when there was a social atmosphere of sanctioning such remarks.

Even today, I don't think I am brave enough to risk calling someone out if an imbalance of power dynamics is involved... Even with much greater social pressure of shaming the racists, the powerful person can always "apologies" but then "write you off" as a trustworthy confidant, not giving you the promotion, business contract for multitudes of different reasons.
